Only hockey fans of the QJAAAHL’s Saint-Jérôme Panthers had heard of Alexandre Grenier before the start of this year, but the 19-year-old got an opportunity with the QMJHL’s Québec Remparts halfway through the season and ran with it. The 6-foot-5, 201-pound right winger potted 9 goals and 28 points in 31 games for the Remparts during the regular season, and racked up another 8 goals and 16 points in 15 playoff games. He also scored an impressive 60 points, on 25 goals and 35 assists in just 33 games for the Panthers. Last season, Grenier amassed 54 points, on 26 goals and 28 assists, and averaged 1.33 points per game in his two years with St-Jérôme. Along with having excellent size and reach, he is a good skater, with nice hands, good puckhandling skills, has a tremendous release, adept hockey sense and vision, and plays an overall complete game. So much so, that Québec head coach Patrick Roy would rely on Grenier in several key situations late in the season. At the recent QMJHL Draft, Halifax Mooseheadsm GM Cam Russell traded his 11th overall Euro Pick and PEI’s 4th round pick to Quebec in exchange for the late blooming, somewhat enigmatic forward. Which should improve a club that went a dreadful 20-43-2-3 last season. With his impressive size and overall skill set, it is hard not to imagine Grenier drawing some attention come the 2011 NHL Entry Draft this June.

He will play for the Halifax Mooseheads next year, which is where another one of our prospects play [sawyer Hannay]. From the looks of it, he had a pretty good playoffs. I just wonder if he's a good skater or not.

Another head-scratcher by MG and Co. today...

Hey, all the scouts do is watch hockey, nothing wrong with bucking the trend at this points of the draft if you think there may be a sleeper lurking around.

Can it Garth,

I dislike French-Canadian players like this...

This guy is going to be our new Marc-Andre Bernier (see 2003 draft), mark my words.

Wow.

Personally, I care more about the individual character of a player than if they're French or not.

Wow. Seriously? Get out. This is pure racism. Just because he's French Candadian means he's a bust? Just like all those other awful French-Canadians on our team and the league. Ballsdeepfreeze, you're a disgrace.

I guess at his age he'll be making the jump to the AHL/ECHL after this season? A late-bloomer in junior like this makes me think that he might require some testing in the pros before a better picture of his potential is available... That said, his size, skating ability and offensive upside can't help but generate a little bit of excitement right now.
