Who cares? It's the ECHL. Not even the A.

Means nothing.

Yes it does mean something. It means he's producing well at the level he's currently playing, which bodes well for his jump to the next level.

We can tell this poster really lacks common sense and perspective.

No kidding. And the ECHL is arguably a step above the Austrian league as far as preparing for the NHL. So the fact that he's producing there means that he's moving forward in his development.

Being a point per game in the ECHL means he's more likely to be able to produce in the AHL. Especially as he continues to develop physically.

I'm not sure but Im going to assume that the Austrian league uses the big ice in their arenas for this statement. Grenier is a fast guy for being 6'5, it's one of his best attributes, and on the larger ice surface it might have been sort of mulled and made him less effective. Coming back to NA and playing on the smaller ice surface must bring out his speed and play in benefit to his game. I would assume that's why he's doing better now, he's better suited to the closer in, high paced game.

And his team had a revolving door of locked out NHLers too so he kept getting pushed down the depth chart

Yeah, that comment about the ECHL meaning nothing was senseless. For a young guy to move up to the AHL, he has to be around point-per-game. Suggests that he could be good enough to be promoted if he keeps this up. "Means nothing..."

Grenier seems to be more of a skilled, large playmaker than physical and gritty. Would like to see how he and Mallet do together on a line.

Grenier had a quieter game than usual today for Kalamazoo, collecting no points and 3 shots on net, and finishing with an even rating in a 2-1 OT win over the Trenton TItans.

It wasn't such a great game for Grenier yesterday, who had no points, 2 shots on net and an ugly -3 rating for Kalamazoo in a 5-3 loss to Reading.

Grenier seems to be cooling off lately. He had another scoreless game and had only 1 shot on net for Kalamazoo in a 4-3 OT win over the Toledo Walleye today. He finished with an even rating.

Canucks signs Alexandre Grenier. 3 years / $1 950 000 total. 2 way. #RDS

Good stuff. $650,000 cap hit I'd assume.

That's great, glad we finally have him under contract. And with the move to Peoria next season, he won't be stuck in the ECHL any longer.

We could totally mess up San Jose by putting Grenier, Lain and Archibald on our 4th line. Size, size and more size!

Grenier didn't make the top 10 of the Hockey Prospectus review of our prospect pool, but he did make the next five:

12. Alexandre Grenier, Right Wing: Grenier bounced between the Austrian league, ECHL, and the AHL last season. He has good hands, finishing skill, and a big frame but needs to get a quicker first step.

i like the fact that he was a late bloomer in juniors, then in his first pro year, actually showed progression through the year, right into playing pretty solid for chicago at the end of the year. he's one of the guys that really needs to keep progressing or else risk being lost in the shuffle with all the new talent we've drafted.

He has a ways to go from the raw talent he was, but I can see how he's been improving when I watched a bit last year. He has a lot of the tools that could make him stand out so he'll just have to figure out how to make best use of them.

Grenier is quietly becoming Utica's best player.

3 assists tonight in a 5-4 loss. He now has 5 points in 3 games.

That entire line of Grenier, Archibald and Pelletier has looked good.

He's come a long way from being stuck in the ECHL last season. I guess we can chalk that up to the Wolves...

Good luck with them St Louis :D

The one name on that list that stood out to me was David Clarkson. He's following up last year's breakout campaign with another solid showing and if he's not intent on re-signing in NJ he'll be a highly sought after free agent. He's 28, he hits and fights as well as any, SCORES, and is just getting into the prime of his career. If it meant losing Higgins and Raymond, I would gladly throw 4+ million his way. Whether he'd want to play here, though, is an entirely different matter.
.... Self imposed eating of crow. Thank god he's the Leafs' problem.

He's been termed as a raw player needing more development and to grow into his size, and if we're patient he could be a good second liner or at least an excellent grinder in the NHL.

Does he play with a lot of energy? It sounds like he's got first call-up at the rate he's going, since he can play a bottom 6 role, but may have the talent for 3rd or even 2nd line.

Having a player like Grenier emerge would be a HUGE bonus.
