Henrik Kesler
NCAA scheduling is weird. 7 days off then a back to back. I like what I saw from Labate tonight, but I'll admit I didn't watch all of the game.
Salmonberries
Labate assisted on the game clincher-his wrist shot from the circle was tipped for the 5-3 clincher late in the third period on the pp. According to the Big Ten broadcast crew, Labate is now 6'6"

Salmonberries
Wisconsin back on the tube again next Friday against Michigan in what should be a terrific game; both teams are loaded with legit NHL prospects.

I hope he's filled out that long frame a bit since he was drafted. Pretty sure its that way to minimize travel during the school week Didn't think of it that way, but I'd imagine that could be one of the myriad of reasons for the somewhat erratic NCAA hockey scheduling. Fred65
Didn't think of it that way, but I'd imagine that could be one of the myriad of reasons for the somewhat erratic NCAA hockey scheduling. These athlete students have a heavy academic course loads as well as playing a sport. Most regular students find it difficult enough as it is to just manage university. They practise or play 6 days a week plus 1.5 hours in the gym every day. When they get on the coach to travel they all have their studies with them. Most coaches have players in frequently maybe once a week for class confirmations and check to see the parers they have to turn in are up todate. The good news is if they're struggling they do have one on one tutoring generally. Beinga student/athlete is a tough grind. If they don't keep up their GPA then they sit or dropped from the team
johngould21
Do these Universities only do this for hockey athletes? When you see the calibre of football grads it makes you wonder about their school programs. One of the reasons would be that NCAA football generates more revenue, I'm guessing. Derp...
If he's 6'6 that's ridic. He has a good overall game for someone at 6'3, but when he fills out at 6'6 he'll be a beast!
Joel Heyman
Jesus christ, and they were talking about how they'd hoped he'd stop growing when he hit 6'5 last spring
Salmonberries
Yeah, for those that get the BTN network (Shaw 157) that Michigan/Wisconsin game is on now, Multiple high level drafted NHL prospects on both teams, including Labate. Game started at 3:30, sorry for the late notice but I just got home myself.
Salmonberries
Labate just scored the first Wisconsin goal.

Yeah, I don't think he is. The same crew said he was 6'4" last night, so, I don't know. By the way, all of the rest of the Wisconsin games this year are on BTN if you get it. Shaw 157. Salmonberries
Labate's skating is unreal for such a big guy, he's lightning fast. The commentators are talking about it now!
avelanch
That's one of the things i did notice the games i watched of his. he skates like lemieux. long powerful strides. his legs don't move that fast but he gets lots of speed out of them. deceptively fast. Salmonberries
Yeah, apparently the game I was watching this afternoon was a rebroadcast of an earlier game played last night. One assist for Labate. For those locals that get BTN (Shaw 157) it's Wisconsin vs Minnesota again starting right now (6pm PST).
