Welcome to the Rangers, Carter Ashton. When this opportunity arose, the chance to trade our 7th overall pick for 15th overall, dropping 8 spots, in order to acquire the 29th overall draft pick of 2009, and former WHL standout, 21 year old, 6'3" Carter Ashton we were faced with a tough choice. Our scouting department had already determined three key players we wanted to target for the draft round 1, and one of them would be off the table if we moved down, however, if we changed our outlook, and compared Carter to those three first round targets, he would certainly compete to be in our top two choices. From there, it was just a matter of detail. All in all, The Rangers come away with a big first round pick in Ashton, 15th overall pick, and a 2nd round selection, making this trade a pleasure to complete. Quebec does have a superior position of strength as a result, and that was not lost in my decision making process. Drafting back to back 6th and 7th was something we looked long and hard at. In the end, The New York Rangers, with their 6th overall selection of 2012, Draft...Carter Ashton and two more picks! :bigblush:

Another reminder!! A quick word regarding trades:

As soon as a trade is agreed to, they can be submitted to me. Once submitted to me and accepted by both GMs, they are binding and teams cannot back out. Trades won't be processed and posted until after: - all players involved in the pending trade are no longer participating in the NHL playoffs, and; - all CDCGML teams involved have been eliminated from the CDCGML playoffs.
the draft:
The entry draft will be held on June 20th beginning at 5pm Pacific Time. We will try to get through all 3 rounds as quickly as possible. If you cannot attend the draft in person, please submit a list to me and I will draft the top listed player still available to your team for you. If all the players on your list have already been chosen, you will miss your selection and can make it up afterwards.
and 2010 draft picks:
The deadline to have any players drafted in 2010 signed to entry level contracts is 11:59pm Pacific Time on June 15th. Any players drafted in 2010 that are not signed by that time will re-enter the draft, and will be eligible to be drafted this year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our fans for a wonderful year of support, and our players, many returning again next season, where we anticipate playoff hockey returning to CDCGML's Big Apple. This update represents a snap shot of the offseason depth chart, and is subject to change as we progress towards training camp, where the roster will be solidified and tweaked heading into the 2012-2013 season. Thanks to the executive committee for your assistance so far, and to the other GM's, all 29 of you for making this one of the best fantasy leagues I have ever seen or heard of.

2 big deals have gone down in Edmonton. In the first, the Oilers saw Semyon Varlamov and David Perron come to town, in exchange for Marc-Andre Fleury. We feel this deal adds much needed depth to our forward ranks, and we feel David Perron is a fantastic player who will continue to grow into the star he is.

Varlamov, on the other hand, is a budding goaltender on the edge of stardem. He struggled in the first part of last season, but has excelled in the WHC, with a 1.74 GAA, and a 940% save percentage, as he takes on Slovakia in the Gold Medal Game in about 30 minutes.

Then, there was the second deal, in which the Oilers saw Brent Seabrook and the rights to Trevor Lewis leave town, in exchange for Max Pacioretty and the rights to RJ Umberger. Pacioretty had a break out year last season, scoring 33 goals and 32 assists for 65 points. We also hope that RJ chooses to re-sign with us, as we feel he would be the perfect fit for our 3rd line centre spot.

To gain some, you have to lose some. We thank Brent, Marc-Andre, and Trevor for their services here. We felt Brent could be moved because of the emergences of Dmitry Kulikov and Jeff Petry. All 3 of them have very long and prosperous careers ahead of them, and we wish them the very best.

Depth Chart:

Pacioretty - Richards - Perron

Booth - Ruutu - Havlat

Clarkson - _____ - Clutterbuck

Jones - Cleary - _____

Thornton -

Kulikov - Hamhuis

Petry - Smid

Murray - ____

Ohlund

Varlamov

Giguere

Oklahoma Coyotes:

Grachev - Jenner - Stone

Caputi - DiDomenico

Negrin
