aGENT
I'm on an infuriating hunt for an actual plastic free electric kettle. Preferably one with variable temperature control (for teas, Aeropress and french press). Now I'm ok with a plastic handle etc but no plastic that can actually come in contact with boiling water (lids, spouts, windows, max fill gauge etc). Any help? (I can't find a @#$$'ing thing! ) Link to comment
avelanch
http://www.amazon.co...91625283&sr=1-6 -Variable temperature allows for exact temperature of coffee brewing or tea extraction-Preset temperatures or user set from 140°F up.-Temperature set/hold for 20 minutes-Commercial UL certified Link to comment
aGENT
Sorry, should have also mentioned 1.5L or larger. That unit also has some questionable reviews on build quality.... Link to comment

aGENT
Yeah that new model appears to have a window...would like to do more research on that other unit...you see a model number anywhere on that ebay one? Link to comment
aGENT
That new one's not very well reviewed either... :/ Grrrr.... infuriating. Link to comment
avelanch
no i cant find a model number anywhere, you could always send a message/ask a question. man, it's really hard to find one Link to comment

avelanch
seems as though this is a open sector that maybe we should develop a product for. then again, you could always just do this DIY for an immersion circulators scaled back and mounted on a glass jug... http://seattlefoodgeek.com/2010/02/diy-sous-vide-heating-immersion-circulator-for-about-75/ Link to comment
aGENT
Yeah it's a very open sector. I don't know the first thing about engineering or building a variable temperature kettle though. I could do the actual visual design CAD/3D modeling though! Link to comment
avelanch
the engineering portion is very easy, a heating coil (mounted the the bottom, making direct contact), a temperature control unit, a display... I don't know why they need to make the windows out of plastic instead of glass, or have windows at all. Link to comment
aGENT
Plastic's cheaper I'm guessing. Might have more predictable expansion/contraction with the heat too...? But yeah, I'm with you...the window is a "feature" not a requirement. So when do we build this thing? Link to comment
avelanch
as soon as you secure the R&D funding Link to comment

aGENT
I'd get this one in a heart beat if it didn't have that damn plastic window!! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003KYSLNQ/?tag=thewire06-20 Link to comment
