Bilbro Baggins
I've been watching a lot of Man v. Food recently, and it's got me thinking... What are some really good restaurants in Vancouver? I mean reasonably priced, not any overly expensive, fancy, reservations restaurants.
:D
Wetcoaster in 3... 2... 1... If you were watching Man v Food, maybe you are looking for the kind of restaurant with eating challenges as well? I'd love to hear if there are any local.

Grapefruits
If you like Greek you can't go wrong with Stepho's on Daive street. Usually a line up but the chicken souvlaki and roasted potatoes are amasing, decent prices too.

Ghostsof1915
Zefferreli's on Robson. My buddy is from Sicily and lived in Rome for years. I took him there, and he asked the manager to come over. I'm like "uh oh". The manager comes over and he says to her it's the best pasta he's had outside of Italy! Now that's a compliment! About $20 per plate. But it's worth every penny. http://www.zefferellis.com/

McMillan
God you guys like bad restaurants...seriously, Cactus Club? It's terrible, along with all the other chain restaurants. The best restaurants in the city imo would be... Cibo, amazing food amazing Chef. Everything is local, seasonal and done right. You're not going to find amazing plating here but you will find mazing food. By far my favourite restaurant in the city. If you go get the bone marrow. LaQuercia, another great restaurant. They offer a constantly changing menu and offer family style dining. Just let the kitchen cook for you and you won't be disappointed. Hawksworth Restaurant. If you like pretty plates of the restaurants I like Hawksworth definitely has the prettiest plating. A lot of fusion which I'm normally not a fan of but I have to admit his food is good. Have the short ribs. Maenam, if you like thai you'll love Maenam. Here you'll find modernized thai food. Gone is the sloppy decor and poor plating and in comes a nice trendy little restaurant. Have the red curry duck and hot and sour soup.
Wolfey
Earls. Ribs and chicken one of the best meals I've ever had. I know people think Earls isn't all that good but try the Ribs and Chicken. Otherwise Tuna club sandwich at Joey's

Wetcoaster
It depends what you are looking for - Try some of the street food carts: http://www.shermansfoodadventures.com/2010/03/amorosa.html'>http://www.shermansfoodadventures.com/2010/03/amorosa.html Here is the menu: http://www.urbanspoon.com/u/menu/180058?p=0 IMHO it leaves Anton's in the dust. And the decor and ambience is quite nice so a good restaurant for a quiet date. Comfort food?? Acme Cafe at 51 West Hastings Street - and really good value. Terrific sandwiches and try the meat loaf. http://www.acmecafe.ca/ More upscale. Don Francesco's at 860 Burrard has great Italian food. I used to go to Francesco's original restaurant - Francesco Alongi's back in the 1970's and 1980's on Richards Street. http://www.donfrancesco.ca/ Another really good Italian restaurant that has been around for decades. I would often go for a pre-game meal when the Canucks played at the Pacific Coliseum - Osteria Napoli on Renfrew at 1st Avenue - great Italian food. The veal was always superb. Been a few years since I have been there. Also a romantic date place. http://www.osterianapoli.com/ Best Steak - Gotham's - Hy's Encore as sentimental favourite In Seattle try Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The Shore Club has great steak and superb seafood. Less expensive but still top end steak Hamilton Street Grill http://www.hamiltonstreetgrill.com/ Best Carnivore Outing (non-steak) - Memphis Blues. Best Restaurant - West - edges out my longtime favourite Bishop's with a new one on the scene Gastropod a close third. Friends recommend Hawksworth. Expect to drop serious change at these places. Best new style deli - Salt and it is great - incredible charcuterie and cheeses. Classic Italian - Cioppino’s - try the lunch special of rotisserie chicken and the pastas are superb. Seafood - C but I am more and more impressed each time I go to the Blue Water Cafe. Also the Shore Club Classic French - Le Crocodile. Been a favourite of mine for decades. Indian food? No contest... Vij's at 1480 West 11th Avenue and he has a takeout place next door - Vij's Rangoli. http://www.vijs.ca/ Something different - Belgian by way of North Africa and arguably one of the best in the City and just blocks away from Rogers Arena. One of my personal favourites - Chambar, 562 Beatty Street. http://www.chambar.com/ The Pear Tree at 4120 East Hastings Street, Burnaby is superb. Scott Jaeger is a world class chef with all the awards to prove it. As an appetizer try the Scallops with Bacon Risotto or the "Lobster Cappucino". Main course? They have rotating specials based on fresh ingredients available each day but the Lamb Shank with Scallops and Risotto is superb as is the the Ribeye Steak with Stilton Polenta are signature dishes. http://peartreerestaurant.net/index.php And yeah I do eat out a lot. BTW a food blog with really good reviews of Metro Vancouver restaurants is Sherman's Food Adventures - a great place to check out restaurants that you may not have heard of as well as many that are well-known: http://www.shermansfoodadventures.com/ EDIT - And some diners that I omitted earlier... I forgot to include The Red Wagon Cafe at 2296 East Hastings Street on my list of good breakfast places as well lunch and dinner comfort food: http://www.redwagoncafe.com/menu Another good diner choice that recently opened - Lucy's Eastside Diner at 2708 Main Street Street and it is open 24 hours a day. Great breakfast, sandwiches and burgers - classic comfort food. Try the meatloaf sandwich. http://www.lucyseastsidediner.com/ Save-On Meats Diner Menu (also still a butcher shop and a sandwich counter as well: http://saveonmeats.ca/menu/save-on-meats-menu.pdf Reviews: http://communities.canada.com/vancouversun/blogs/wordofmouth/archive/2011/07/18/save-on-meats-diner-review.aspx http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/food-and-wine/restaurant-reviews/save-on-meats-not-just-another-faux-retro-diner/article2107092/
Vlas=d
why do people keep saying earls, cactus club, joey's.. you dont need reservations for them not even on game days. plus they are chains
JAH
I'm not a fan of Cactus Club, but they're fancy salad (can't recall then name...the most expensive one) is really good. Nick's Spaghetti House on Commercial is excellent home cooked Italian. The Irish Heather/Shebeen in Gastown. Best Irish house, flooring from the Guinness Brewery and the best Scotch list in Vancouver. Food's ok, nothing to get excited about. Gotta agree with Wetcoaster's assessment....in particular Memphis Blues....try the Beef Brisket, but don't come too late or it will all be gone (they start cooking it in the morning and once they're out, there's no more until the next day). Offensive Threat
Cactus Club is the most overrated and overpriced chain in town. 10-15 years ago they were where the kids ate and they catered to that crowd. Then they redid all their interiors and raised the bar a lot in atmosphere and service but its still the same old crapty food but at inflated prices. If you really want a chain restaurant go to the Keg for the same money and get a decent meal out of it. Also avoid Olive Garden like the plague. They even make their salads bad for you. Where else can a simple plate dish run over 3000 calories and 80 grams of fat. NOTHING on their menu is healthy. NOTHING. Their "heart healthy" meals are not healthy, just slightly less unhealthy than their usual stuff. Go to their website. Read the nutritional information page and gasp in awe at the massive numbers in the calories, fat and sodium columns. Itll hurt your heart just reading it.
