I personally have all the confidence in the world that Cody Hodgson will reach his top end potential on the Vancouuver Canucks that will begin with a fantastic rookie season in 2011/2012. I think all players with the right attitude will have solid seasons in Vancouver because that is how this organization flows!!!

Go Nucks Go!!

I predict that Kesler is better earlier than expected and as a result Hodgson goes back to Chicago in early November. I also predict that I will get minuses from the "Cody is the best player on our roster" fan club for saying that.

I predict that Sturm will be fine but not spectacular.

I predict that Samuelsson, Hansen, and Edler are the ones who do better than last year... and that Oreskovich can only keep his physical play up for a few games at a stretch and be largely ineffective.

I predict that Salo does not play 82 games (ok, that one is a gimme).

I predict that neither Sedin will match their career best point totals... but end up still being better than a point a game players.

I predict that we don't win the President's Trophy, but do win the division.

I predict that we make a major trade during the year to solidify the lineup.

Sturm - Kesler - Hodgson form one of the best 2nd lines in the NHL

Hansen breaks out on the 3rd line and pots 20 goals

Samuelsson has a healthy bounce back year

Edler becomes a bonafide Norris trophy candidate

Ballard recovers from his horrible first year as a Canuck and scores 40 points

Salo finally plays an 82 game season

Kesler pots 33 goals even while missing a month and a half

Cory Schneider takes over the starting job halfway into the season

I think Hodgson does well, but not spectacular and goes to Chicago sometime. Keslers a better option. We might even see Schroder come up.

Volpatti will be physical, and good on the PK. He could end up in Chicago again. I think we'll be surprised by him.

Sturm will pot 15ish goals. Maybe more.

Oreo could go either way. He could step up, be physical and show some of those hands, or he could vanish again.

I predict that Vancouver fans, being the harsh scrutinizers (similar to Montreal) that they are, will complain endlessly about CoHo's performace during the first part of the season. I also predict that Coho will find find his stride at some point and silence his critics.

Edler has a breakout season, Norris trophy candidate
Hodgson gets placed on the wing when Kesler gets back
Sturm posts just under 20 goals, Higgins posts just over
Samuelsson with 25+ goals
Burrows scores over 30, same with Kesler

Hmmm 1 month into the season, let us see how my pre-season predictions have held up.

1. Kesler was indeed back earlier than expected, but other injuries and then trades kept Hodgson in the lineup so far. Unless we make another trade at this point, the next danger time for him is when/if Raymond gets back healthy.
2. Sturm was less than fine... certainly not the spectacular answer to the 2nd line that many folks were suggesting.
3. Hansen and Edler are on the way to having career years (Hansen getting shots higher in the lineup)... Samuelson was still hurt, so no chance to show how he would do. Oreskovitch was largely ineffective and got sent down as 90% of the board figured would happen.
4. Salo has missed games
5. Sedins are doing fine... still too long to go to answer this one.
6. I still hold to the fact that we won't win the President's Trophy... but I still think we will win the division. Ryan Smyth has entirely changed the complexion of the Oilers and makes them a much tougher team to get freebie points from like last year.
7. This was the one that most people argued about, and it has happened with the Booth trade.

New predictions:

- We won't be the only Canadian team in the playoffs... but Toronto will slide terribly by Christmas from their current ranking
- another team gets moved to a different location before the start of next season
- We do get Weber, but not until after the season
- We move one of our goalies but not until after the season (barring a ridiculous trade offer closer to the deadline which we can't say no to)
- Hodgson is also moved before next season

Well... looking back at the start of the season predictions. Right on most... HUGE misses on a couple.

Hodgson did not end up in Chicago... injuries kept him in the lineup long enough to really find his game and he may put up 40-50 points this season.

Sturm was not fine... he has been terrible even with his new team.

Samuelson has also not improved, but to be fair he has been injured the entire season and he is unable to be at all effective.

I think the rest of the predictions are either in the bag or on track to be true (we will almost certainly win the division and will be hard pressed to win the Presidents Trophy... and the Sedins are probably not going to break their person records).

Revisiting my predictions from both before the season and from a month in, I would say that I am batting a pretty darn good average. A couple of huge misses though.

Lots of people say stuff and talk crap about what other folks say... but then either entirely reverse their position, or become really silent.

I stick by the stuff I say and even bring it up when I am wrong.

In this case, with the November predictions... Toronto was at the top of the East, and they indeed fell out of contention. Ottawa joins the Canucks as Canadian teams in the playoffs (which not many people would have called in November).

Hodgson got moved as I always contended that he would be, regardless of the flack I took from everyone about it.

Well I guess Tanev is pretty close to top 4 minutes and I predicted Penguins or Bruins at start of season... just a little biased :)

Hansen will break out score around 15-17 goals this year, and about 35 points.

Pretty much spot-on. 15 goals, 36 points at the moment.

Tanev will break out and stick with the team the entire season, meanwhile scoring about 20 points.

Guess not :\

Bieksa and Edler both surpass their point totals from last year.

Yep.

Higgins has a resurrection of his career and pots around 20-23 goals.

Pretty close. Definitely had a great year, with 17 goals so far. Had it not been for the prolonged absence due to the staph infection, I could very well have been right with the goals.

Sturm will score around 17-20 goals.

lol :picard:

Cody Hodgson will shut up all the naysayers.

I'd say he did. Was 4th in scoring on this team before he was traded at the deadline.

Kesler beasts it up despite missing a bunch of games and scores over 30 goals.

Guess not. 22 goals, still good, but far from his absolute monster of a year last season.

All in all, my predictions were pretty good.
