**Why would Anyone Want to play for Vancouver?**

People hate Vancouver because they are the best. Plain and simple. You could drum up a similar list of articles by Googling the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Yankees for example. Why??? because they are the best. People love to hate the best. It's human nature. You can dress it up however you want. You can blame the fans, you can blame whining or diving or cheap play. Those are just excuses fans make up as a reason to hate them. At the end of the day it is winning that people hate. And that's the biggest compliment you could ever get IMO.

I like Booth as a person but as a player Gillis gambled on the wrong horse.

Having had a similar medical history as Booth I know he is one hit or accident away from never playing hockey again.

That's the way it is but the contract is pretty steep for a player with such a medical history.

Either the Canucks medical staff are not educating Gillis.org mgmt. on the dangers of signing head injured players or the mgmt. listens and takes a chance as they have no idea what they have just been informed about.

Either way,it is irresponsible and tells me that cool hand Mike is actually ill informed or ignorant on this issue.

You trade the playoff proven performer, the Stanley Cup Winner, the glue in the Edler/Sedin equation and dump him for a multiple head injured player.Really astute move.

Garrison is a player I am excited to see play and another free agent that came to Vancouver despite what some pro's are saying about the Nucks management.

Gump, you should actually read a little more instead of just writing.I accept your apologies in advance.

LOL!! best laugh ive had in a while!! Canucks = LA LAKERS /New York Yankees, 2 franchises who have multiple championships!! Laker and Yanks fan can say they are the best but are Canuck fans soo blinded that we actually consider ourselves as elite and dominant as those franchises have been over their history??

You believe Gillis made a wrong choice picking up Booth. This is your opinion, which you are supporting with your own personal situation (be well). Your personal situation does not necessarily equate to Booth's, or Hamhuis', or Sedin's, or Crosby's or.... It still remains to be seen whether you are right or Gillis and the team's medical advisors, and the NHL's medical staff and Booth's personal physician.

As previously mentioned, it is open to debate as to Samuelsson's playoff ability. If Samuelsson was supposed to be anything with the Sedins, why was Burrows playing on the top line?

Otherwise, not sure what the heck you're talking about as far as apologies.

regards,

G.

I actually plainly said that Ehrhoff was traded for. Not sure why that matters, but the OP was trying to establish that the management was doing their job.

Whether Hamhuis and Malhotra are from here is completely irrelevant. They were high sought after free agents that were signed.

Torres wanted more than we were willing to offer, and as great as Torres was for us, he was also a liabilty half the time. See his lengthy sheet of getting suspended.

Ehrhoff took the money and ran, plain and simple. We could not have offered him that contract nor should we have. He was offered the same money as Hamhuis (who is much more valuable) and he turned it down.

Samuelsson was becoming injury prone, (see him missing half of the playoffs) and playing only 54 games for the Panthers.

Your so called argument, whatever is was supposed to be, is missing.

Gump, the issue is a medical one,not some personal preference. It is not a matter of being 'right'.The statistics are there to study and create conclusions based on facts.

Ten percent of all NHL players were effected by concussions last year, alone. Those are not players with prior concussions. Those are players that missed games last season with concussions and/or concussion related symptoms.

Head injuries account for 34% of all injuries that result in death in the US.The overall brain injury issue is not one of personal choices and preferences,Gump,as you may learn in time.

Medical insurance specialists are beginning to suggest that they are debating stopping or simply excluding insurance coverage on concussion related NHL players. At that point in time the NHL clubs will have to cover the cost of games missed and associated health care costs. That is coming and that is when the rubber hits the ice.Hockey clubs will then become acutely aware of the costs of brain injured players that they trade for or sign.

As for Samuelsson and the twins,I was talking about the well documented relationships amongst the Swedes on the team.

Furthermore,Samuelsson's playoff record is fairly stellar so I have no idea what you are suggesting.

Throw in the fact Sam collected some 50% less than Booth and you have a no brainer-forgive the pun, please.

As for the apolgies, let's just say I won't go quoting you as having typed something when you did not.I expect the same courtesy.

Best Regards and salutations,

NN

Gump,

The issue is not a simple matter of obvious concern. It is illness, associated diseases and early death-for starters.

We are not talking MCL's or cartilage tears.

Concussions have different grades attached to them and every person (or in this instance, player) is effected differently.

Concussions are cumulative in nature. That means a person suffers a brain injury and the symptoms may or may not dissipate to the point where he or she feels 'better' or even 'normal' but the brain damage does not disappear. When a person or player suffers consecutive injuries the brain damage is multiplied-and so are the chances of future diseases and early death.

Booth ,for example, has had three known and serious head injuries/brain injuries.Loss of Consciousness (LoC) accompanied one of the brain injuries. That is usually a significant indication of severe brain injury.

Daniel Sedin has had one diagnosed brain injury that did not include an LoC ,if you want to begin to make comparisons or assumptions.

No,it is not my position that players whom have suffered one concussion retire.I have never said that or will say that.

The basis of my understanding is that Booth has had multiple, serious DIAGNOSED brain injuries ,including an LoC brain injury.

If GM's and their owners were better educated or had personal experience and education they would never, ever trade for a player with that extent of brain injuries and damage.Period.

Money will sort them all out in the end.The insurers will stop covering concussed players and then all of a sudden the whole pro league level will sort out rather quickly who is able to play and who will not.

Sidney Crosby does not get a deal til he retires if Mario has to fund Sid's salary and Sid is forced to leave the game next year, for example.

Head injuries at the pro level are at an exponential rate of being recognised and reported.Soon,so will be the education and awareness levels.

Samulesson was brought in as a second liner and was paid accordingly.Booth is being paid much more and has serious medical liabilities attached. One of these two players is a hit, fall or accident away from leaving the game, altogether. It is not Samuelsson.

That makes the trade a complete mystery to me.

Fans and media and overall culture plays a big role, the fact that we are voted most hated team plays a big role, the fact that we are known for diving alot plays a big role, im not just saying its the fans but how we cruicify someone every year, year after year doesnt go unoticed...You dont think Luongo has friends around the league? you dont think his agents have other clients around the league? Reputation in the NHL spreads like wildfire and lets face it, playing in Vancouver has more negative than positive. ( west coast travel schedule, salary tax, scrutinizing media and fans etc etc)
