I have a problem that we gave up BOTH of Sammy & Sturm and only have 1 workable player in return. Why even get Reinprecht if he will be in the farm team and will most likely get taken away from re-entry waivers! We should just given 1 of the 2 with a draft pick for Booth.

Can someone please explain the logic behind the "one hit away from ending his career" argument. It makes absolutely no sense to argue this because this is true about any player. It's like Malhotra got a puck in the eye and almost lost his career and that could've happened to anyone in the league and maybe they'd be done, so don't keep arguing it's any different for Booth then any other player in the league.

Wow....

Samuelsson has grown to be a very inconsistent player. If he was able to consistently re-produce how he played against LA in the playoffs 2 years ago, then you might have an arguement, but he hasn't and you dont.

Booth has 2 assists in 4 games and has drawn 3 penalties... 2 of which the Nucks PP were able to capitalize on. He has good speed and size, can play with an edge, and is a decade younger than Samuelsson. Im not convinced that he's going to light the world on fire statistically. Im thinking he'll be around a 25 goal, 45-65 point guy, but I also believe that theres some un-tapped potential still there with career setbacks due to concussion.

The fact that Gillis was able to land a young player of this calibre, this early in the season, and only having to give up a pending UFA whom they werent going to re-sign, and get rid of a contract he shouldnt have picked up in the first place, is AMAZING.

Booth is playing with a player who missed all of training camp, and a rookie who is playing out of his natural position. He is also entering an extremely different hockey environment which happens to be as far away from where his home, best friends and family are... Its a very big adjustment, and it's going to take some time before he feels confident with his surroundings, and in reading his line mates properly. Untill then you can expect a simple north south speed game with some glimpses of power drives to the net. I suspect we'll get a better idea of what kind of game he brings on this road trip, as he'll have some time to get to know his new teammates on and off the ice, not to mention getting away from the Vancouver media, which should ease some of that added stress.

Booth really deserves a long stretch of games before anyone should be making any judgment on his lack of worth. Samuelsson was a great teammate while he was here, and I will miss him, but he wasnt suited for the 2nd line any longer, and Hansen can fill the 3rd line RW role while bringing more physicallity. This deal was a no brainer.

I don't know if I'm the only one who shook his head in disbelief when Gillis pulled the trigger for David Booth.

Booth was a decent player pre-concussion(s) but he's not been the same player since and he's one concussion shy ending his career like Lafontaine & Kariya.

Even though Samuelson had some flaws I firmly believe his playoff experience alone would have made it worthwhile to keep him around.

I will go on the record to state this trade will eventually bite us in the butt when Booth ends up being a bust and end up being a non factor/fit.

To make things even worse is the fact Booth is making big bucks while Samuelson was on the last year of his deal.

If Booth some way miraculously ends up proving me wrong later down the road I'll eat crow.

But, for now this is not looking like how Gillis envisioned when he did the transaction with Florida.

I also believe Stuurm was given the short end of the stick.

Nuck's get younger, faster, gritter, dump a bit of salary, get a draft pick back, and dump a free agent, get a player who has a history with Kes has a 60 point season in witch he had 30 goals. Wait where did we go wrong?
