F.Underwood Posted July 5, 2012 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Carolina Hurricane Awards Team MVP - Brandon Sutter Despite playing on the third line for the majority of the year, Brandon put up very good numbers, playing in every situation. He was used heavily for any PK situations, yet still put up 26 goals, 63 points, 10/11 fewer then All-star Calibre players in Zack Parise and Eric Staal. Top Defenceman - Dan Boyle Asked to play in almost every role at some points, Dan lead the D-corp with 10 goals, 43 points. He was on the ice alot and only missed 6 games. A close second was Douglas Murray, with 105 SB Top Point Scorer Eric Staal Playing in all 82 games, Eric put up a solid 29 goals, 74 points. Although his numbers went down from last season, he continued to show he is a top player in this league, as well as being defensively responsible. He also placed 7th in the league with 220 hits. Top Goal Scorer - Eric Staal and Zack Parise The two players tied for this award, both netting 29 goals. Hopefully next season will see the two players crack the 35 goal mark. Top Defensive Forward - Scott Hartnell An unlikely candidate, Scott led all forwards in blocked shots and takeaways. Rookie of the Year - Ryan Murphy The young defenceman averaged just under 13 mins a game in ice time, Scoring his first VHL goal this past season. His plus 4 was very solid, considering the team as a whole had a difficult time this past season in regards to plus/minus.
