Krazz messaged me on MSN and said that he wants you all to know that he had a sudden wedding to attend at San Francisco. He's been trying to get on CDC but the IP is blocked? and Proxy is really laggy.

He'll be back on Wednesday!

2012 CDC Virtual Hockey League Mock Draft

1. small.png Florida Panthers - RW Nail Yakupov (Sarnia - OHL)

The Florida Panthers play it safe by taking the consensus number one pick in Nail Yakupov. Nail possesses fantastic skating ability along with slick hands and a deadly shot. Despite being slightly undersized, Yakupov plays a very "North American" styled game and does not shy away from contact. Nail has stated that he wishes to play in the NHL, though the Russian factor still looms as a potential threat for teams interested in the dynamic winger. Somewhat of a selfish player, does not use his linemates enough at times.

Projection: Franchise scoring winger

2. small.png Phoenix Coyotes - C Mikhail Grigorenko (Quebec - QMJHL)

Lacking depth at every forward position, the Phoenix Coyotes make the obvious selection in Mikhail Grigorenko at number two. Grigorenko combines elite playmaking abilities with a 6'3" frame, bringing the two elements that the Coyotes lacked in their forward group last season. Great skater with a bit of a nose for the net. Lacks consistency from game-to-game, and some have criticized Mikhail's compete level. Needs to bulk up and add more muscle to reach his full potential at the pro level.

Projection: Franchise centerman

3. small.png Ottawa Senators - D Ryan Murray (Everett - WHL)

The Ottawa Senators strongly consider selecting Galchenyuk to help the league's worst offense from last season, but ultimately opt for the safe pick in Ryan Murray. Murray is a smooth skating, defensively-minded defenseman with tremendous hockey sense, poise, and puck moving ability. Will likely be a captain in the NHL one day. Not overly physical. Despite producing respectable numbers in the WHL, his offensive upside at the next level is questionable.

Projection: Top-pairing defensive defenseman who safely projects as a top-four defenseman.

4. small.png Calgary Flames - D Mathew Dumba (Red Deer - WHL)

The Calgary Flames jump at the opportunity to take flashy offensive defenseman Mathew Dumba at fourth overall. Dumba's great skating ability combined with his offensive skillset and physicality make him a desirable asset for any team. Mathew's hard shot and solid playmaking abilities should make him, at the very least, a powerplay specialist at the next level. Needs to bulk up if he wants to maintain his aggressive style of play in the NHL.

Projection: Top-pairing offensive defenseman but may end up as a powerplay specialist.

5. small.png Detroit Red Wings - LW Filip Forsberg (Leksands - Allsvenskan)

Strong, talented forward with good puck possession skills. Solid shot and embraces the physical aspect of the game. Good hands for his size. Defensive game needs lots of work. Rather ineffective forechecker making him a very one-dimensional player.

Projection: Average first line power forward who safely projects as a top-six forward.

6. small.png Montreal Canadiens - C Alexander Galchenyuk (Sarnia - OHL)

The Montreal Canadiens luck out and see the talented Galchenyuk fall right into their lap. Alex has missed the majority of the season due to a torn ACL, but should still be considered one of the top prospects available in the draft. Often compared to Washington's Marian Hossa, Alex has great hands and vision, as well as a deceptively quick shot. Has yet to play a game this season which makes him a bit of a gamble for Montreal.

Projection: First line centerman, though a bit of a wildcard depending on how much the injury and lost development time affect him.

7. small.png Toronto Maple Leafs - D Jacob Trouba (USA U18 - USHL)

Big, mobile defenseman who plays with a bit of a mean streak. Solid defensively and the offense in his game is beginning to develop. Smart decision maker with no glaring negatives to his game, though the quality of his competition is notably lower than the other top prospects.

Projection: #2-3 defenseman who safely projects as a top-4 defenseman.

8. small.png Toronto Maple Leafs (via SJ) - RW Sebastian Collberg (Frolunda - SEL)

Speedy offensive winger with a deadly shot. Needs to become stronger to realize NHL potential.

Projection: Top-6 forward

9. small.png New Jersey Devils - D Cody Ceci (Ottawa - OHL)

Smooth skating two-way defenseman adept at moving the puck. Strong offensive abilities and responsible in his own end. Not very physical despite having a solid frame. Could be NHL ready next season.

Projection: #2-3 defenseman who safely projects as a top-4 defenseman.

10. small.png Columbus Blue Jackets (via DAL) - D Morgan Rielly (Moose Jaw - WHL)

Excellent skater with unbelievable offensive ability. Great puck mover who sees the ice very well. Defensive play is spotty and questionable at best. High upside but bust/"disappointment" potential is there.

Projection: #2-3 offensive defenseman but may end up as a powerplay specialist.

11. small.png Montreal Canadiens (via CAR) - D Griffin Reinhart (Edmonton - WHL)

Big defenseman who possesses a heavy point shot and is capable of making smart passes. Decent defensively though could/should be more physical for someone his size. Effort level is questionable and needs to become more consistent.

Projection: Top-4 defenseman

12. small.png Detroit Red Wings (via BOS) - D Olli Maatta (London - OHL)

Steady defensive defenseman with solid positioning and good puck moving abilities. Plays a quiet game but make very few mistakes when on the ice. Low offensive upside.

Projection: Top-4 defenseman who safely projects as an NHL regular.

13. small.png Detroit Red Wings (via MIN) - LW Teuvo Teravainen (Jokerit - SML)

Explosive skater with loads of offensive potential. Great vision and creativity with the puck. Not physical. Bit of a project pick, though Detroit has the system to bring him along slowly to see him reach his full potential.

Projection: Top-6 forward

14. small.png Ottawa Senators (via NSH) - C Zemgus Girgensons (Dubuque - USHL)

Big, reliable centerman who can play in all three zones. Decent skater and good at using his size. May not have enough offensive upside to fill a top-6 role with an NHL team, but still a safe bet to be a useful player.

Projection: Second line center who safely projects as a bottom-6 forward.

15. small.png Edmonton Oilers - D Matt Finn (Guelph - OHL)

Smart, physical defenseman who is reliable in his own end. Showing lots of growth offensively.

Projection: Top-4 defenseman

16. small.png Anaheim Ducks - C Brendan Gaunce (Belleville - OHL)

Hard-working, two-way centerman with good size and leadership qualities. Very reliable player who can "do it all". Despite putting up respectable numbers this season, his offensive tools are not overly impressive.

Projection: Second line center who safely projects as a bottom-6 forward

17. small.png New York Islanders - C Radek Faksa (Kitchener - OHL)

Fast riser with great size and solid offensive talents. Smart player who has proven to be reliable in his own end.

Projection: Top-6 forward

18. small.png New York Rangers - LW Pontus Aberg (Djurgarden - SEL)

Solid two-way winger who has had an impressive season offensively playing against older men. Good checking forward. Possesses a cannon of a shot, though his offensive upside is somewhat questionable.

Projection: Second line winger who safely projects as a bottom-6 forward

19. small.png Winnipeg Jets - D Derrick Pouliot (Portland - WHL)

Offensive defenseman and a very strong skater, Pouliot has an accurate point shot and is dangerous in the attacking zone. Tends to make too many mistakes with the puck. Unreliable defensively.

Projection: Top-4 defenseman but may end up as a powerplay specialist.

20. small.png Edmonton Oilers (via STL) - D Slater Koekkoek (Peterborough - OHL)

Total workhorse on the backend with a solid frame and good skating ability. Talented offensively and an adept puck mover. Defensive game could use polishing but upside is evident with Koekkoek.

Projection: Top-4 defenseman

21. small.png Colorado Avalanche - D Ludvig Bystrom (MODO - SEL)

Smart defenseman who doesn't make many mistakes. Plays a relatively quiet game but is responsible defensively. Doesn't show a ton of offensive ability, though the upside may be there.

Projection: Top-4 defenseman

22. small.png Buffalo Sabres - C Tomas Hertl (HC Slavia Praha - CZE)

Talented offensive player with above-average physical tools. Smart player and somewhat surprisingly not afraid of engaging physically.

Projection: Top-6 forward

23. small.png Dallas Stars (via TBL) - RW Martin Frk (Halifax - QMJHL)

For a player who was at one point considered a top talent in this year's draft, Frk has taken quite a fall. Very talented offensive player but below average skating and hockey sense will hold him back. Tries to do too much on his own and does not use his linemates effectively.

Projection: Fringe first line forward with high bust potential.

24. small.png Vancouver Canucks - LW Tim Bozon (Kamloops, WHL)

Great skater with natural offensive ability, including a deadly shot. Plays with a chip on his shoulder and isn't afraid to mix it up. Suspect defensively.

Projection: Top-6 forward

25. small.png Columbus Blue Jackets - G Andrei Vasilevski (UFA - MHL)

The Russian factor may scare some teams off, but Vasilevski is easily the most talented goaltender in this year's crop. Andrei is gifted with a large frame, good skating ability, and a nice glove hand. Taking a goalie in the first round has its risks, but the Blue Jackets gamble here and hope to luck out.

Projection: Starting goaltender but may never make it to the NHL.

26. small.png Washington Capitals - LW Nikita Gusev (CSKA - MHL)

Undoubtedly one of the most talented players in this year's draft, though he's 1 or 2 years older than most of the other draft eligibles. Great vision and creativity with the puck. Undersized but strong on his skates. Russian factor is certainly looming, but the Capitals have shown that they are more than willing to take that risk.

Projection: Fringe first line forward but may never make it to the NHL.

27. small.png Ottawa Senators (via CHI) - LW Charles Hudon (Chicoutimi - QMJHL)

Tremendous offensive talent but poor size and skating ability make him quite the wild card. High hockey IQ and has the ability to create plays out of nowhere. Certainly a risky pick, but landing Murray and Girgensons make this a viable option for Ottawa considering Hudon could turn out to be the best of the three.

Projection: Fringe first line forward but may never make it to the NHL.

28. small.png Edmonton Oilers (via PIT) - RW Colton Sissons (Kelowna, WHL)

Big, hard-working forward with decent hockey sense. Very reliable defensively and good on the forecheck. Obvious leadership qualities. Good goal scorer at the WHL level but his offensive upside at the next level is somewhat questionable.

Projection: Fringe second line forward who safely projects as a bottom-six forward.

29. small.png Philadelphia Flyers - LW Nicolas Kerdiles (USA U18 - USHL)

Reliable two-way winger who shows flashes of offensive talent. Thinks the game at a solid level and has good size.

Projection: Fringe second line forward who safely projects as a bottom-six forward.

30. small.png Toronto Maple Leafs (via LAK) - C Cristoval Nieves (Kent - USHS)

Large, flashy centerman with great skating ability. Possesses obvious offensive talents. Hard to judge his long-term potential based on the level of his competition. Next year should be telling as to whether the Maple Leafs have a sleeper on their hands.

Projection: Top-6 forward. Any safe projection would be a wild guess.

As mentioned earlier, I got a little lazy with some of the descriptions, but Chimon and Nilo covered theirs pretty well. Just adding another opinion I suppose. Enjoy and fire away. :emot-parrot:

edit: Also, I realize that some of the picks have been traded, but the deals haven't actually gone through yet. I'm sure more will be completed before the draft so I didn't bother figuring it out.
