Wetcoaster
Thanks a million, Wet! Been reading this thread for info for my son and will be picking up an Aeropress (I work 5 minutes away from the Vulcan location, so how perfect!)
The Colt 45s
If you want great tasting coffee try the AeroPress. A friend of mine who is an espresso aficionado (some would say fanatic) introduced me to this completely new method of making coffee. When I first saw it I told him yup got a couple of those French press makers already.
Wetcoaster
I have heard it makes a good cup, but I cannot vouch for that one yet. I have a French press. It makes a good cup of coffee if your water is the right temp and use the right amount of coffee.
Electro Rock
I also have a French press and can say that there's no comparison, not only does the Aeropress make a different level of coffee but it also cleans up much easier to boot. If I can make a better cup of coffee than a $9000 (or whatever they are) Clover brewer and premium beans, even when using the crap Folgers preground we have at work, well.... aGENT
I must agree 100%. It is true that the coffee from the Aeropress seems to be "less oily" than the French press (which I love the oils), but there still is no comparison. I'm not sure if I will use my French press again.
DW23
my girlfriend works as a professional barista and she always rambles on about the AeroPress so I guess it's good only thing I know: if Espresso tastes bitter, it's bad.

Wetcoaster
I find my Aeropress coffee to be more oily than my French press coffee. I also find that the quality of the beans and grind seems to matter less than with other brewing methods.
aGENT
ABTW if you are heating the milk in the microwave use 50% or less power and bring it 150-155F (66-68C) checking with a digital thermometer. I use a 50:50 ratio of coffee to milk.
Electro Rock
I've been using the Disk stainless permanent filter for the last few days, it improves the taste a bit and is a lot more convenient to use than messing with the paper filters. Electro Rock
Is anyone else finding that a properly done Aeropress'ed Americano tastes almost like a mocha?

Pouria
Ok, I drink a lot of coffee, but usually just StarBucks, JJ Beam, Tims, etc. So for all of your coffee veterans, what is the main difference between some of these specialized & expensive coffees & everything else? I'm sure just like wine there is a big difference, so I just wanted to know... Would love to try some of these!!
Electro Rock
Yes...I find the coffee's chocolaty flavour to be much more prominent in the Aeropress. BTW, when you said the coffee was more oily than a French Press, would you say you noticed this much more once you switched to the metal disk filter? Every time I open this thread I just feel compelled to make a coffee!
Perfect From Now On
does anyone know where to get a good americano in Richmond?
DarthNinja
Does anyone use a burr grinder? I just bought one and it actually makes a significant difference. Much better consistency and flavour since it doesn't heat the beans. Now that I've opened this thread again; I have to drive to my office to get my Aeropress so I can make a coffee!
