Hear me out.

I love the experience of going to a Canucks game at Rogers Arena. Now over here in North America, our sports are not accustomed to the whole "singing" or chanting up and down like Soccer around the world.

We've heard this be brought up so many times before, but I say we finally act and try to educate ourselves with some songs, and bring this phenomenal fan experience into hockey. I went to Europe over the summer and watched some European teams play, and it is one of THE Best experiences you will ever have. Not because of the soccer, but because of the crowd experience. There is not one person sitting down or talking, for a full 90 minutes you have the crowd jumping up and down singing. I even learnt the songs as the game went by. Phenomenal.

That's TRUE Home ice advantage. We could do like what Celtic does, which is change around the worlds to "Just Can't Get Enough" a bit to garner to their soccer team. The lyrics are as follows:

When I see you Celtic, I go out of my head,
I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough,
All the things you do to me and everything you say,
I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough,
We slip and slide as we fall in love,
And I just can't seem to get enough of... Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo...

Here's what they sound like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDPQILYRFg8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TspYx7EaF5A&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HCTr94LYAM&feature=related

Breathtaking. Would be amazing to experience.

DISCLAIMER: I didn't mean to actually sing "Just can't get enough", I meant we could do something similar to what they do, which is take a popular song everyone knows and change the words around a bit.

What if we were to sing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeAeKb4GFsg

From time to time? That would get the whole stadium going! It could be the first of many songs.

It 1)Brings back great memories
2) Relates to our city
3) Cannot be stolen from us
4) Is ABSOLUTELY original

How is chanting Depeche Mode songs "true home ice advantage?"

I am not particularly interested in emulating soccer fans.

I've never seen you do anything on this site rather than go around trying your best to spread your negativity. It would be nice to see some positivity out of you eventually.

We're not emulating anyone. Singing songs and chanting has been a part of sport since the beginning of time. It just hasn't caught on here. In fact, they sing songs in the European hockey leagues, thank you.

It is an advantage because its original to only us. You think the players wouldn't get truly psyched up listening to their crowd do something other than just cheer when they score? It's to psyche them up even when they need a boost.

That said, I am generally for things that promote fan unity..................but for me this suggestion has been poisoned by its association with European soccer crowds.

I suppose if someone came up with an incredibly relevant song for a Canucks game...maybe...

"Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no!"

I would actually like the lyrics to the new goal song (Electric Worry - Clutch) posted while the song plays after a goal. Has the right feel about it for fans to belt it out. That could be fun and maybe even get under the skin of the opposition a bit!

Not a fan of singing or prolonged chants, but I just want to hear cheers, jeers, boos, and woos for everything that happens on the ice, be it goals, hits, saves, missed calls, offsides, etc.

Well, now I feel dumb for writing a slightly more positive follow-up post to take off the sting.

If you don't like the Biestra style...hey, you can't please everyone.

And all you are doing is citing European fan traditions and suggesting Canada is deficient for not adopting them. So when are those damn European soccer fans gonna do what they should and throw some octopi on the soccer field...

And yes, I am 100% POSITIVE that NO hockey players on the ice will get psyched up from hearing 20,000 people singing out-of-tune Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode is what people listen to when they are wallowing in self-pity after a bad breakup.

I was at the game against the flames and people started doing the wave WHILE the game was going on, and it was retarded. I don't mind if they do it between whistles but doing it while the play is going on is dumb, as this would be.

I don't know about you but while the play is going on I actually like to...you know..WATCH the game, not do something that people do at baseball games. When something happens (big hit, goal, big save etc.) then I cheer.

If I had tickets, I would.

Instead of being so uninviting to trying new things, why not atleast try to come up with something?

Of course when you come up with a new suggestion, at first everyone's going to hate it. And hey, maybe no one here likes the idea and never will. But I'm sure that as more and more people here go to Whitecaps games and see the atmosphere something like this can bring, they'll warm up to the idea.

It's fun, it gets the fans involved, and it enhances the experience tenfold. Trust me.

For all those going "I'd rather just see the game", do you complain about the same thing in the playoffs when everyones standing up waving their towels during the play? I'd much rather have fun at the game chanting and getting my moneys worth than sit down like a mute and do exactly what I could do at home... not interact with my surroundings.

You remember the fan experience MUCH more than you remember a certain "hit" or "play" when your at the actual game. It's like when I was at the Canucks-Flames season opener a couple years back, when we won 6-0. The only goal I remember was Rick Rypien's, because the crowd went absolutely beserk, we started chanting "Rypien" and everything.

Love the idea and wish we could have a unique cheering chant whether it would be a song like you mentioned or anything else. Unfortunately we live in North America where we don't have a majority of crazy passionate sports fans at the games that are willing to do this.

People don't stand up and wave their towels during the play unless something happens (goal, big hit, save) so what point are you trying to make

It's all about challenging people to step out of their comfort zones. Here in North America, we're too worried about "looking like an idiot" or not looking "cool" and "tough" as fans, IMO. In Europe, people genuinely care less about what others think and do, and just do what they love and want to have fun. It's not just sporting events, it's the culture itself.

If more and more fans begin to do this, it'll catch on and people will start to step out of their comfort zones, making this a norm at Canucks games.

It's like the Wave. Who the hell would've "loved" the idea of the wave the first time it was invented? Having to "get up and down" repeatedly while trying to watch the game... Psh!

So you stoop as low as personal attacks. Real nice.

If you don't like the idea, then that's alright, but resorting to calling me "mentally ill" is not going to make your point any more valid. I am sincerely disappointed in the CDC community for actually promoting this type of behavior by "plus'ing" him and all

Your right, i'm definately mentally ill for trying to come up with a new idea that I wanted people's opinions on. Your absolutely right bud, you hit the nail on the forehead.

the thing is...thats the european and soccer. try to find an example of that in NA...with hockey, basketball, and football.

NA Soccer is a bit like that, but to a lesser degree...although the Portland Timbers have a passionate fanbase.

im sorry, that is never going to work in Rogers Arena or hockey in general.

honestly...if someone started singing next to me..after i just paid for a ticket...i would tell them to shut the eff up

It's not a personal attack unless you actually are mentally ill.

If you were of sound mental health and reasonable intelligence, I would probably not have to now explain that it was clearly a reference to the appearance of mental illness one would have if standing alone in a crowd chanting.

Also, it's spelled "definitely" and the expression is "hit the nail on the head." The structure of a nail's head is not quite the same as the head of a person. The head of a nail is not divided into areas like the scalp, face, forehead, crown, cheeks and so on.

Anyway, I wasn't the one that came out swinging. I gave my thoughts on your idea, then actually followed up with a cushion-post to not appear too critical.

You retorted right off the bat with an *actual* personal attack.

You invited opinions. You got them in a reasonably respectful manner. You didn't like it and so I'm therefore a negative troll.

I'm not looking for a battle, but in the words of John J. Rambo...

"Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go... Let it go..."

Which actually makes me think, we could all chant some Luba at the next Canucks game.

Let it go, let it go. Let it free your body, let it move your soul. A woman is made she is not born, let it go...

No, your absolutely right. I completely agree with everything you said there, your the Anthony Robbins of CDC. Congratulations. I'll stop by for an autograph later.

Now back to the point I was making, this would be cool, atleast in my eyes and i'm sure for some others who would enjoy the experience. If you don't think it's enjoyable, then that's cool, I hope your mind changes eventually and we can get this into some games eventually.

As a previous poster showed, even in the European leagues this goes on, and it looks extremely pleasing to be apart of!

Just wanted to let you know I gave you a +1. I honestly don't know why anyone would give you a negative feedback on something like this. I can't say I'm a huge fan to the "just can't get enough", but any Nucks fan looking to create a positive impact to a home game experience doesn't deserve to get booed for it. In cases like this, if you don't like it, hang your keyboard up and call it a night.
