Doesn't guarantee a medal but theoretically if we were to lose we'd still get in the bronze medal game.

that's what i was saying. having been in the final for like 10 yrs straight, it would be quite a set back to play for the bronze

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Would you rather:

  • Tank the NHL season year after year just to have a RNH, Hall etc?
  • Pick 25-30th regularly in the draft, which means good success in the regular season/playoffs?
  • Tank season after season just to build up a good prospect pool to play in the WJ to make us feel good?

I'd say the second one as well, good choice.

Was thinking about the potential 2013 tournament team.

Possible returnees:
Jonathan Huberdeau
Ryan Strome
Mark Schiefele
Boone Jenner
Dougie Hamilton
Ryan Murray
Scott Harrington

2011 draftees:
Ty Rattie
Stuart Percy
Phillip Danault
Matt Puempel
Mark McNeill
Duncan Siemens
Ryan Murphy
Lucas Lessio
Brett Ritchie
Daniel Catenacci
Nick Cousins
Michael St. Croix

2012 draftees:
Cody Ceci
Mathew Dumba
Phillip Di Giuseppe
Morgan Reilly
Brendan Gaunce
Griffin Reinhart
Malcolm Subban
Thomas Wilson

2013 draftees:
Nathan McKinnon
Sean Monahan

Best possible team:

Mark Schiefele - Jonathan Huberdeau - Ryan Strome
Matt Puempel - Mark McNeill - Ty Rattie
Phillip Di Giuseppe - Boone Jenner - Daniel Catenacci
Brendan Gaunce - Nathan McKinnon - Phillip Danault

Dougie Hamilton - Scott Harrington
Ryan Murray - Ryan Murphy
Cody Ceci - Mathew Dumba

Malcolm Subban
???????

I expect at the very least Huberdeau to be in the NHL next year. Schiefele, Strome, Murphy have good chances as well. Assuming those guys are gone, here's an early prediction:

Matt Puempel - Mark McNeill - Ty Rattie
Phillip Di Giuseppe - Nathan McKinnon - Daniel Catenacci
Philip Danault - Boone Jenner (A) - Sean Monahan
Brendan Gaunce - Thomas Wilson - Brett Ritchie

Duncan Siemens - Dougie Hamilton ©
Matthew Dumba - Cody Ceci
Ryan Murray - Scott Harrington (A)

Malcolm Subban

Our depth/options at defence is sick.

This is fairly even as well.

Man why is Brett Connolly being so under valued and underutilized by the canadian coach. The guys a goal scorer and a dam good one at that, not a checker/grinder. He's a much more prolific offensive guy than most of the top 6, and has proven he's ahead of most of the other guys here by making his NHL club, yet he recieves barely any PP time and zero skilled linemates. I really think if he had gotten the chance to play with a guy like Huberdeau the game against Russia could have been different.

Gotta say I'm impressed with Visentin here. Not nearly as offensively potent as the Russians, but playing a great game. I'm happy that he is able to kinda defeat his "demons" of not performing in big games in the WJC.

Congrats Canada

Great effort after such a heartbreaking loss

Great gave for Visentin - nice way for him to respond after last year.

Nice to see them get the bronze after playing a great game.
