  • The story of The Last of Us centers around a modern fungal plague that nearly led mankind to extinction. Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons, and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their westward journey across what remains of the United States.

  • (Light Spoilers)

The game begins in a Boston quarantine zone, twenty years after the outbreak, where 14-year-old orphan Ellie lives in a boarding house. Joel, in his forties at the time, is recruited to sneak her out to a radical militia group known as the Fireflies. Evidently, things take a turn for the worse, and the military apparently finds out about their escape and begins pursuit. While Joel normally would have left Ellie and fled for his life, he had promised a dying friend to take care of her, and after a nearby safe haven fails to work out, they begin a trek westward across the United States to escape the law enforcement and relocate Ellie, with a faint hope against all odds to stay alive along the way.

Joel

Background & Early life

Little is known regarding Joel's life preceding the plague, although it is suggested that he maintained a normal, mostly prosaic lifestyle that wasn't so different from the majority of other Americans living at that time. In the teaser trailer, we see him lamenting over the loss of such luxuries, but he is also quick to accept it. When he and Ellie enter what remains of a high income hotel, he remarks that it's "too rich for [his] blood" suggesting he lived in the middle to lower class.

Events of The Last of Us

Twenty years after the initial plague that eliminated millions of people across the United States, Joel is known as a man who runs drugs and weapons through the quarantine zone in Boston. At some point he also became acquainted with a woman known as Tess, who maintains the underground market (of the local Boston area) and specializes in contraband. The two appear to work with each other frequently, and they seen to have a respectful alliance at the start of the game.

At an unknown time, Joel promised a dying friend he would rescue Ellie, a fourteen-year-old orphan, from a nearby boarding house and bring her to a secretive group known as the Fireflies for an unknown reason. Some time after the escape, military authorities find out and begin pursuing them as they commence their journey west across what remains of the United States.

Ellie

Early life

Ellie was born sometime in the year 2019, six years after the spread of the fungal pandemic. As a result, she grew up in an oppressive military quarantine zone in Boston, Massachusetts with little knowledge of the world prior to the incident.

Events of The Last of Us

In the year 2033, now at the age of 14, Ellie met Joel who successfully smuggled her out of the quarantine zone in Boston in order to bring her to a secretive group known as the Fireflies to fullfill a final request from a dying friend.

Bill

Background & Early life

Little is known about Bill. At some point before the events of The Last of Us, he met Joel. By the time during which the events of the game take place, Bill owes him many favors.

Events of The Last of Us

Much to Bill's dismay, Joel and Ellie arrive to his safe house in the town of Lincoln, turning off his traps, alerting an overwhelming swarm of the infected of their presence, and, according to Bill, "damn near break [bill's] shootin' arm". Bill subdues both Joel and Ellie, but the two manage to break from his grip, thanks to Ellie.

After a brief argument, Joel asks Bill for a car, supplemented by Ellie reminding Bill about the favors he owes to Joel. Bill says he does not have a working car, but there are parts of cars located in the other part of the town. Bill agrees to build a car for Joel and Ellie, but tells them that once it is done, he owes no more favors to Joel, to which Joel agrees.

Tess

Tess is a hardened survivor living in one of the last remaining quarantine zones. She operates in the black market of a city under martial law. Partners with Joel, they have become known within the criminal underworld for their ruthlessness. Street smart and confident, Tess is a savvy strategist and negotiator. Her ability to generate intelligent plans to secure the contraband for their trade is second to none. Tess and Joel subscribe to the same dog-eat-dog philosophy. They survive by being willing to do what others can’t or won’t. Her trust in and loyalty towards Joel runs deep. However, secretly, she questions whether Joel shares the same emotions that she feels for him.

  • Gameplay will be "less linear" than the Uncharted series, even though it will not be open-world. Instead "the exploration will be more important and will have enough weight in the gameplay." As of February 4, it has been revealed that some events pertaining to The Last of Us will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

  • Combat in the The Last of Us will be very realistic and strategic. Resources are limited and the lethality of weapons is very high, as in reality. You can't only hide behind cover and wait for your health to regenerate like in Uncharted; rather, "health packs" must be applied to repair damage to Joel or Ellie's health. There will be both guns and melee combat, as well as breakable weapons such as planks and bricks. Part of the gameplay will revolve around scavenging for new items.

  • Items are in The Last of Us. Items are objects that Joel and Ellie can utilize to further their survival, combat enemies, replenish their health, and store things in. The groups that items fall under include ammunition, battery, binding, alcohol, blade, sugar, explosive, and canister. All of these item groups contain items that Joel and Ellie can scavenge for, like revolver ammunition, or craft out of simple items, as in the case of the Molotov Cocktail.

  • Crafting is a method Joel and Ellie use to create items from simple supplies in The Last of Us.To craft an item from simpler items, Joel must have the required ingredients, open his backpack, and perform the craft. Crafting is chiefly used to make something useful out of multiple useless things, like in the case of the Molotov Cocktail. The ingredients for the Molotov Cocktail can be also used to make a health kit, to heal yourself. The ingredients can be used defensively or offensively. Supplies are grouped into several categories, so oftentimes you will not need a specific item to craft something, rather a generic group of items can be used interchangeably.

  • The Last of Us is confirmed to have a multiplayer mode called Factions.

  • Overview Decades after the initial Cordyceps outbreak, and the decimation of the population, if you're not infected, then you're left fighting for scraps to survive. Unfortunately for you, there are many others like you fighting for the same limited resources, no matter the cost. However, banding together with other survivors gives you the strength in numbers and a better chance to survive and stay alive. The best and only way to survive is to take the lives of those that seek to take yours. Whether you side with the Fireflies or the Hunters means little. What matters is how hard you try to keep your clan healthy and strong by securing supplies and making it back alive.

  • Clan There is a robust clan system where you can recruit survivors into your clan. You can then send them out on missions for supplies, to rescue other survivors, and train to repel or attack Infecteds or Marauders. Clan members can die from attacks, starvation, or sickness. They can also become infected. Members will join your clan depending on the matches you win, the supplies you have and attacks you repel.

  • Classes Assault, Sniper, Support, Stealth, Custom

  • Survival Skills

Crafting Master
allows faster crafting and more efficient use of resources when crafting. Also, allows the player to gift free items to teammates, including molotovs, shivs, bombs, or smoke bombs, when this skill is upgraded.
  • Listen Mode Multiplayer will have Listen Mode but its limited to a few seconds.

  • Gameplay Modes

Supply Raid

You and your team of four survivors must survey the area and find supplies for you and your arsenal. In addition, feed and nourish the sick and unhealthy members of your faction or clan. Each map is designed especially for stealth. Supply chests are out in the open and dangerous to approach without teammates, however it contains supplies vital for you and your clan. All while being met by an enemy team, fighting for the very same supplies.

Survivors

Survival is the key and teamwork is an optional factor. You must eliminate everyone else until you are left standing at the end of the match. It is a best of seven rounds format and supplies go to the team that wins four of seven rounds by having the last man or woman standing. There's no respawning, but you can buy weapons and ammo between rounds and anything you buy or craft carries with you until the end of the game.

Survival Raid

There is a set number of lives both teams have and the first team that reduces the other teams' lives to zero wins. You will continue to respawn until your team's number reaches zero. Between respawns, supplies you collected carry over.

Game looks amazing. Lots of potential and Naughty Dog is making it. Here's an interesting video I was shown also

It follows up from Uncharted 3 possibly, but dam!

Can this series get any better if this is all true?

That definitely does look like Ellen Page, and you would have to think that's Drake's daughter from the future considering how old Drake is.

I'm not sure if this is related too but during the campaign, there was a laboratory that would only unlock after you completed a maze. Prior to that maze, there was a zombie dead on the floor. It didn't look like these ones though. Maybe these evolved?

Yeah it is Ashley Johnson as stated earlier. Look at photos of her and look at the character based on her. They are definitely going for an Ellen page look in the game.

Pay Ellens huge price tag or get a knock off at 1/10th the price and digitize her to look and sound more like Ellen than herself. Easy choice.

I Am Legend: The Video Game

Looks great. Apparently it's been in production for about 2 years. Don't know how they kept this all a secret.

The brilliance of I am Legend (the story) was that the protagonist was the bad guy, and that he was the last of his kind. The game is a post-apocalypse look at life after humans, so to speak. Reading up on it, they are not designing this to be another zombie game, but focusing on the story side of things. Pretty interesting that they're choosing to focus on the story about a child growing into a teenager in this type of environment.

But it's not going to be out anytime soon. They are saying that they might not make the target release of 2013.
