Blockbuster Deal

It was a busy day in the Southeast today, with Carolina and Tampa Bay making huge deal that, from the outside, looks great for both sides. Tampa Bay acquired skilled left winger Alex Tanguay, big and mean defenseman Bryan Allen, and former-Conn Smythe winning goaltender Cam Ward. Despite their 4-2 record, Tampa felt that changes needed to be made.

"I didn't see our success continuing. I saw some major holes in our roster and I feel that today, we fixed most of them. We were really missing the toughness on our defense, and Bryan brings that every shift. Tanguay is an awesome player as well. He's older than Robbie was, but he's definitely going to be an upgrade that the whole team will feel. Steven and Milan just weren't producing like they should, and, although Schremp was putting up the points, Tanguay should be able to get those two back on the scoresheet. But by far, we love our addition of Cam Ward. He's a proven player who is going to hold the fort in our net for a long time. WE felt like we gave up way too many goals last year, and Cam should definitely be able to pick up the slack here."

Sent back to the Hurricanes is Rob Schremp, Rob Scuderi, Ilya Bryzgalov, prospect Nate Prosser, as well as a few draft picks. Schremp and Ilya will be in Carolina for a long time, assisting in their re-build. Rob Scuderi is likely going to be put into the mentorship role with young Justin Faulk. Nate Prosser will see AHL time and likely will be called up to the big leagues as early as next season.
