Grapefruits
Fred Durst I Was NOT Booted From WWE For Flipping the Bird Fred Durst DID NOT get kicked out of WWE's SummerSlam last night for giving the middle finger to the camera, despite reports to the contrary ... in fact, the real reason he left the main arena was to apologize to the producers. The web has been blowing up this morning with reports that Durst was hauled out of the Staples Center in L.A. Sunday night because he flipped off the camera during the broadcast (above) ... a big no, no on a family friendly show. A rep for the WWE tells TMZ ... the reports are 100% FALSE. The "Limp Bizkit" frontman didn't get the boot, he just felt so bad following the incident, he immediately went backstage to apologize for his actions. The rep notes, "We appreciate Fred’s apology. However, we take our family-friendly environment very seriously and this was a violation of that. We sincerely apologize to our fans.” Not only did Durst peace out early to apologize ... he claims he also wanted to beat the legendary L.A. traffic following the show. Durst tweeted, "I was leaving to beat the traffic! Haha, security escorting me out?? WWE is family. hahaha. Is this really a rumor? Amazing. My boys at WWE are cracking up! Note -- never leave early to beat traffic!”

g_bassi13
That Heyman/Lesnar promo that started off the match was great. Combining that with the win yesterday, it does add the legitimacy back to Brock Lesnar. That Cena/Punk promo was pretty good too, all things considered. Within the restrictions of his character, it was probably the best promo he could have cut. He was begging for cheers, and they were forcing heat on Punk, but as a basic face vs. heel feud, it sets up fairly nicely. It will be effective if they use the PPV to put Punk over. Like that they used the re-match opportunity with Ziggler and Jericho to put Ziggler over this time. Plus it sets up fairly nicely for a Jericho return in the future, when Ziggler is the champion, with a nice title match for their feud. It's just been a really effective rivalry. But holy crap, all that filler. So much damn filler. If they just cut out their in-show advertising, the show itself could go back to being 2 hours long. A couple of poor matches thrown in their, just for the sake of padding out the time. Sheamus' character on the show is one of the worst I've seen in a while. Honestly, in just about every facet, his character sucks. And the dickish heel moves he keeps pulling don't help things any. I don't think it's possible to have a championship rain less interesting than his. It's all just grating on my nerves now. Also, AJ as a GM continues to annoy the hell out of me. She just books matches out of the Teddy Long playbook, skips around, and just stares vacuously at people. There's been zero pay-off to all her character build up. She does not come off as crazy, yet nothing she does really makes any sense. And Lawler as a commentator... I mean he's been useless for the longest while, but he's currently phoning it in harder than he ever has before. I'm not even expecting anything particularly insightful. Just... better than this. It's too obvious he doesn't care.

Twilight Sparkle
this is a pretty good read. be a star blowing up in their faces? Linda Sánchez, the U.S. Representative for California's 39th congressional district, is being criticized for promoting WWE's multi-platform, nationwide anti-bullying campaign, "be a STAR," at a rally last Friday at Whittier, California's Parnell Park in the Los Angeles area. She had a Twitter exchange with Irv Muchnick, author of CHRIS & NANCY: The True Story of the Benoit Murder-Suicide and Pro Wrestling’s Cocktail of Death and Wrestling Babylon, regarding her appearance, who noted his displeasure with his favorite congressperson on football brain injuries being "coopted by WWE/Linda McMahon propaganda." Sánchez responded to his remark, tweeting, "As a mother & lawmaker, bullying prevention is very important 2 me. I speak w/ kids re: the dangers of bullying any chance I get." Muchnick then wrote, "Respectfully, I don’t think you know background of why WWE, biggest bully on the block, is involved in this campaign…." Sánchez’s communications director, Adam Hudson, responded to Muchnik's concerns Monday via e-mail: "We saw your Tweets regarding Linda speaking at anti-bullying events with the WWE and other celebrities. I’m happy to follow up on why Linda was there if you would like. Regards.” Muchnick then gave a lengthy response stating his belief that prominent politicians such as herself and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who also spoke at the anti-bullying rally, should not get in bed with WWE by covering, "or, worse, extolling the company’s self-aggrandizing propaganda." He details the hypocrisy of WWE promoting an anti-bullying campaign when the sport-entertainment organization, or rather, the McMahon family, has ingrained a toxic culture of bullying in their workplace. He notes, "WWE became part of the Be A Star campaign in the first place only because the company was dealing with the public relations fallout of controversial actions, gestures, and public utterances of its performers, which put them at odds with organizations such as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation." Muchnick then lists examples of WWE compromising it's anti-bullying campaign, including company chief Vince McMahon mocking announcer Jim Ross’ affliction with Bell’s Palsy in a backstage segment on the June 11 episode of Raw. He details, "Recently, to great televised and dressing-room glee, the Monday Night Raw program on the USA cable network broadcast a parody of on-and-off announcer and company executive Jim Ross. Mocking Mr. Ross’s bouts with the disease Bell’s Palsy, which has partially paralyzed his face, the talent performing the parody twisted his own mouth theatrically and grotesquely, while a commentator chimed in with unrestrained mirth. Here, the on-air bullying anecdote harshly illuminated the same methods in WWE’s backstage relations with its own employees." Muchnick adds, "I think our conversation on this matter can advance public understanding of the bullying issue, as well as provide fodder for the Senate race in Connecticut between Ms. McMahon and her Democratic opponent, Chris Murphy."
