GLASSJAW
also surprised to see that Phoenix album so high. I remember the first 2 or 3 songs being total jams, but... isn't the rest of the album kind of a dud?
Humble Rodent
How the heck did The xx get so high?!?!? I had no idea people liked that album so much. Also I'm surprised to see MPP so high, it feels like there's been a lot of backlash against it since it came out. Also why did so many damn Canadians vote for Plants and Animals, Metric, and the Weakerthans, booo we have so many better Canadian bands.

Nucks4Life
PITCHFORK 1996-2011 READER'S POLL; http://www.pitchfork.com/peopleslist/ thoughts? - i'm surprised people rank the shins' 'chutes too narrow' higher than 'oh, inverted world' - deerhunter deserves higher slots - helplessness blues is better than self-titled - pj harvey's 'let england shake' at 140 is a travesty - the wrens at 185 is even more of a travesty
Humble Rodent
The xx has 56,000,000 plays on last.fm, and that's MOSTLY based on the release of ONE album. That band is mega, mega popular
GLASSJAW
How about the fact the Urban Hymns isn't even on the list. Very weak imo.
Hugemanskost
Where do you see the word "indie" on that list? The survey is a reader's poll where people were allowed to submit their choice for top albums of the period (1996-2011). There was no requirement for genre, sound, or record label. Nobody is saying "OK Computer is the best indie album of that period" -- they're saying it's "the best album of that period, period." It's nice to see such a great list of albums that were released recently, especially considering we live in an era where the mainstream says The Single is king, and the "album," as a format, is essentially dead. It just so happens that many (not all) of the albums in that list were released on independent labels, and it's no wonder why.
D-Money
Interesting list. Some of my thoughts... 2 Radiohead - Kid A I'm a big fan, but I still can't believe how overrated this album is. 3 Arcade Fire - Funeral Yay Canada! 7 Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot SUCH a great album... 10 Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Liked it a lot when it came out, but didn't hold up at all. 11 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Great to see it this high. Would be in my top-5. 18 Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes Sorry glass, this kicked Helplessness Blues' butt. 19 The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Oh, Lips...you made some amazing music for a while...what happened? Where's your hwed at? 24 The National - Boxer Probably in my top-10. I love every second of it. Glad to see it's regarded so highly. 27 Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend Can't get enough of these guys. 28 Bon Iver - Bon Iver Although I "liked" it, I didn't fully "get" it until seeing them live. Now it's phenomenal. 38 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible Seriously? 47 The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow Definitely my favourite Shins album. I'd probably rate it in about the same place. 50 Beck - Sea Change I think this album is really underappreciated. It gets more play on my iPod than any other Beck album. 52 The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs A masterpiece. Should be a lot higher - like, top-20 higher. 56 Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Overrated much? 64 Bloc Party - Silent Alarm It may not hold up too well, but was absolutely brilliant when it came out. 71 James Blake - James Blake Yeah...I don't get it. 73 Portishead - Third The shiznit. 76 The Strokes - Room on Fire I think this is right where it deserves to be...but I expected to see it higher, given how adored they are. 81 TV on the Radio - Dear Science Should be waaaaaay higher. 88 Vampire Weekend - Contra Ditto. 91 Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary A personal fave. 95 Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? Ditto. 96 Spoon - Kill the Moonlight Would make my top-10. It's THAT good. 97 Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Right where I'd have it. Kill the Moonlight is THAT good. 115 Destroyer - Kaputt Depending on my mood, this album is either a soul tonic or a sleeping pill. 116 Feist - The Reminder I'm sorry - call me a girl, see if I care - but this is criminally low. It's stunningly gorgeous. 125 PJ Harvey - Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea Her best album. Would have made my top-50. 128 Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz This album was absolutely captivating when it came out, and absolutely dull a week later. 142 tUnE-yArDs - w h o k i l l My favourite album of last year. TOTALLY original. 154 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz Surprised it's not in top-100. 163 Beirut - The Flying Club Cup It's not for everyone, but if you get it, there's nothing else like it. 168 Tom Waits - Mule Variations First Tom Waits album at 168? Really? Real Gone and Orphans didn't even make it? Seriously? Guess I'm not surprised. 187 My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves Is this really the first MMJ? I'm absolutely SHOCKED not to see Z on this list. EDIT - Scratch that, it's at 137. 197 Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours I preferred Zonoscope . GLASSJAW
listened to yankee hotel foxtrot again last night, first time in a while... forgot how good it is. about as close to perfection as you can get
GLASSJAW
Gave that Father John Misty album a couple of listens earlier. He's J. Tillman, former member of Fleet Foxes. I think D Money gave it a 7/10, and that seems about right to me, although I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around.

JoGuitar
Jimmy Eat World are in studio right now recording their follow up to 2010's "Invented" I can't think of any alt-rock band that has been this consistently good for the past decadeish. GLASSJAW
new Swans album got a big, fat 9.0 on p4k. If I'm not mistaken, it's over 2 hours long, too. I thought "my father will guide me up a rope..." was one of the best albums of 2010, although I haven't listened to it much lately. excited to hear this.
