Someone threw out the unspeakable blasphemy of trading Kesler straight up for Shea Weber. Will never happen, but ...
Long as we're fantasizing ... imagine if we did that, and then traded Ballard, Tanev (plus maybe Jensen) & a 2 first round picks for Getzlaf. (we'll get one or possibly both picks back for Schneider in the offseason) And maybe picked up Jared Boll for a 3rd rounder. Our roster would look something like this.
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Getzlaf - Raymond
Hansen - Hodgson - Higgins (the "H" line)
Boll - Lapierre - Weise
Weber - Salo
Bieksa - Hamhuis
Edler - Rome
So, what have we got here? Looks like speed, scoring, and grit, with a 2nd line all star center whose a 1st on any other team; is large, dominating, and passes the puck, a Norris caliber defencemen (some would say three with Weber, Edler, and Bieksa) and three, big tough guys (Weber, Boll, Getzlaf) who can keep a team like Boston honest in playoffs. And imagine how effective the second power play unit would be by adding Weber (Getzlaf would cancel loss of Kesler on first unit)
Add forwards Malhotra, Duco, & Jensen (at end of season, if he doesn't go in the deals) & defencemen Alberts, Sulzer, Connaton, & Sauve in reserve.
Nah, will never happen ... But Gary Valk would love it ... (he loves Getzlaf, at almost any price)
I love Kesler, but I'm a realist, and I want a cup. Sorry.
