All you have to ask yourself is: Is this pipeline going to benefit your life in any way?

The answer is no. We won't be getting cheaper gas prices, we won't have more jobs, and BC won't get any improvements to its healthcare. This is just more money the government would have to waste.

So why do we want it? To help out China? At what cost?

Even if there is only a 1% chance that a spill or leak will happen, that's still too high IMO. All it takes is one spill or leak to ruin an entire ecosystem.

Don't let politicians fool you into thinking this is good for Canada. It won't better your life in any way, and it poses a serious risk to BC's coasts. Stand up to greedy politicians and protect BC.

I support stopping the Enbridge Northen Gateway Pipeline fully! I don't think most people here get the warning and danger of this:

1.) From the oil sands, tons, tons of our water is wasted/needed to split the sand and water apart for the oil to be separated. That water which is used gets dirty, and can never be used again for drinking purposes - its how badly polluted the used/wasted water gets.

2.) The pipeline will go right through one of biggest and the only natural remaining rainforests in the world in BC. If a leak occurs, we'd be destroying our own environment, habitat, and wildlife.

3.) Enbridge Inc. has a clear history of past and current leaks, so what are the chances it wouldn't happen here?:

http://www.cbc.ca/ne...line-spill.html; last June - 1500 barrels of oil leaked in the NWT, Enbridge originally said only 4 gallons were leaked.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/story/2010/07/27/sarnia-enbridge-oil-spill-michigan-100727.html; a famous one in the July of 2010 - Over 3 million litres of oil leaked into Michigan creek! Hundreds of Canadian Geese, and other wildlife, were covered with oil due to this.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2012/01/10/calgary-enbridge-pipeline-leak-hearings.html; This Jan, 2012 - "A helicopter flyover was completed earlier today, and a three-foot diameter patch of bubbles has been spotted on the surface of the water in the vicinity of the Stingray natural gas pipeline". This is off the coast of Louisiana.

4.) http://www.edmontonjournal.com/technology/Enbridge-affiliates-have-leaks-spills-over-years/5987092/story.html; A rough estimate, only in the US, Enbridge has been claimed to having over 175 oil spills/leaks in the past decade.

5.) Enbridge's CEO has said "We recognize there are no guarantees", obviously stating they themselves aren't sure if they can prevent another leak in this proposed pipeline.

There are literally hundreds of more reasons which can be stated, but these are the main ones. In all honesty, I don't care what people supporting the pipleline have to say, - that it'll make our economy the strongest in the world, far superior than any other with the money we'd get. The job opportunity's. The blah blah blah... - I don't know about you, but bringing our nation to risk with this is not worth it, not one bit, so we can do what? Get some money? - not like we're greedy enough and not like money's not troubling enough. We're Canadian's for a reason and known as Canadian's for a reason, its because we care about the environment and people before anything else. So why would we be willing to ruin that amazing, best world-wide known, reputation for some excess money? This is probably the most controversial event happening in Canada, and the world knows about it - what dangers it will bring and when it does, how big of fools we will be seen as; 'Caring Canadian's who decided to run a oil pipeline across western Canada for some money: Pipeline backfires, destroying the nation and world known natural rainforest, wildlife habitat, rivers, possibly lakes/fresh water'. Not to mention, how disastrous this would be, it would effect climate, and who knows how long it'd take to clean up the mess? Moral: Don't risk our own home and reputation for this garbage.

Having visited Norway recently, I can say that oil money, spent wisely, certainly can benefit the lives of a country's entire population. Norway has money just oozing out of the its seams. What sets its economy apart from other European economies is oil exportation.

At the moment Canada has the opportunity to become one of the world's leading oil exporters. While environmental factors have to be weighed, it is equally foolish not to weigh the economic benefits of the pipeline as well.

Norway is also one of the richest nations in terms of resources: the fact remains that Norway's GDP per capita is $84,000 while Canada's is $46,000. I have yet to hear the Norwegian Government villified for producing oil despite the fact that it is the 3rd largest oil exporter in the world.

Then we can employ clean up crews as well!

With or without the pipeline, our energy needs won't lessen, so why don't those people work in sustainable energy fields instead. They'll have jobs, we'll have energy, and no oil spills. Win win win, no?

Norway isn't even top 10 in oil exporting countries, not sure where you got that fact.

Norway has a population of about 5 million, while Canada has a population of close to 40 million. It's a completely different situation. Oil revenue can have a big impact on Norweigans, but it would have little impact on Canadians. Canada would simply be collecting the taxes on the oil revenues, and the majority of the revenues will be kept by Alberta.

It's not a good deal for Canada, and it's definitely not a good deal BC.
