Yes - good point Cammer - so nice to see MayRay getting back to his former self - he has earned it.

Have any of you guys watched Raymond play lately? He's fast, has a good shot ands pretty good on defense. Mason Raymond is a great player and can Play wherever you put him. Yes we need him! You people must be real stupid if you don't think we need him!

People knock him for his lack of strength which isn't his fault.

As for the decisions he makes on the ice though, he does warrant some criticism. If he had some better coaching you'd probably see him make smarter decisions offensively. He has a somewhat decent shot but he's at his best when holding onto the puck and making plays with his speed. Without the puck he just needs to keep going to the slot.

The less Raymond has the puck, the better.
He doesn't really create space, but he can get open easily.

If only he can skate as well as Grabner....

He looked good today as he skated towards the net rather than the boards. Hope he keeps it up. I wonder what was said to him to gee him up?

It's one game. I think everyone believes Raymond has the potential but is under achieving. So the fact that he had a good game is not a surprise. Let's see some consistency, then we can praise Raymond

U do know... That making a "do we really want him" thread is a sure fire way to transform the suspect player into a core part of the team?

Both Sedins and Raymond play a lot better with Kassian on the wing.

Kassian is a modern day semenko.

Especially the Sedins. Word seems to have gotten out that the way to play them is to rough them up. This NEEDS to change. The only player that can do that is Kassian - he can play a regular shift.

But I would say Raymond falls in same (albeit lower grade of the same) category as the Sedins

I like consistency too.

It's just a pity it is only Mason Raymond who has to be consistent and the rest of the team get a free pass. The way I see consistency in a team sport.............if you are good enough to be selected to play night after night you have consistency at least in some aspects of your game in the eyes of the coach.

So maybe you shouldn't condemn Raymond's lack of consistency on point production without acknowledging his standout defensive consistency.

I could run through quite a few players who are inconsistent when taking all aspects of their game into account. However as I've said before, this is a team game and as long as they are playing well enough to be selected then I see nothing served by victimising an individual.............just because I may not like him as much as some other players.

Nobody is saying he has suddenly become Pavel Bure and as MR said himself last night ..........."There is a long way to go." I trust he meant the team and not just himself.

Interesting point.

Have we established that Raymond would DEFINITELY NOT stick up for himself?
With the Sedins I think it is part of their code..............is that also the case with Raymond?

Have we ever seen mr join a scrum or initiate a response with any conviction to either back up a teammate or otherwise in his time as a Canuck?

Having said that, aside from the boychuck incident I haven't seen mr targeted in any way.

That's kind of what I was getting at. Unless your code is not to fight then even the mildest people have a threshold point.

We saw Ehrhoff lose it last season and he was like a wild man. I had never seen him fight before. Although I understand he has had one or two fights since leaving.

Alright alright alright!!! (Kevin Hart style)

So...who's just itching to bump this thread when Raymond goes on a tear next season?

I just want a show of hands for those that still have confidence in him.

I hope MayRay makes me eat my words but at the same time, I want to see who actually has the balls to say he's going to turn it around next season (BEFORE IT HAPPENS)

He'll turn it around. I'm obviously not the only person who thinks the MayRay hate is over the top - he is a less than average cap hit - and a better than average NHLer - a 40 point player whose speed is world class and his backchecking can frustrate opposition attempts to 'fastbreak' / rush the puck. My main concern for Raymond is that he is a natural left winger on a team that has Daniel, Burrows (a natural LW playing RW), Booth, Higgins... Raymond is the odd guy out and usually winds up playing the right side, on Kesler's wing - as we saw, Kesler and Booth lacked chemistry and Raymond didn't change that fact. I think Raymond is a 50 point forward given reasonable circumstances (ie healtlhy, playing his position, with linemates who aren't struggling mightily).

Not convinced by the analogy. Semenko was an enforcer ("Cementhead") and a 20 point guy on the Oilers - you put a mannequin near the opposition goal and it would wind up with 10 points by virtue of Gretzky banking pucks off it. The one thing that rings true is that Semenko was not a fourth liner - he was on the ice with, and to protect, Gretzky. I'm not saying that Semenko couldn't play hockey - I think it's sometimes under-rated what it takes to make the NHL even as an enforcer.
Kassian however, is not an enforcer - he is a power forward - he is a skilled player who can skate. A player with Kassian's skillset playing with Gretzky could have been a point a game player.
The idea that the twins or Raymond play better with Kassian is based on what? A couple shifts?
The player who looked notably better playing with Kassian was Lapierre. He really stepped up his physical game, but again, we are talking about a small sample.

His first goal last night was very nice. Still hate the skate hard but stay on the outside boards and shoot from the goal line in the corner. The rare times that it leads to a decent rebound is nice but every time?? Almost as bad as Edlers drop pass on the pp.

I guess goodbye to Raymond as well?
I was hoping he would bounce back this season.
It looked like he might at the beginning of the season but same old playoffs.

That being said, he def wasn't our worst player on the ice.
Just not much to say about him.

Doesn't cost you games but doesnt bring much contribution either.
