So I finally started watching Arrested Development after years and years of my brother telling me it's amazing.
Dunno what was stopping me... I'm hooked on it, midway through the second season.
Kind of amazed it got cancelled for Family Guy, that's gotta be the worst show ever made. Not only do they rip off The Simpsons, but they ripped off the doctor from Arrested Development.
Go figure.

Anyways, anyone else know of any gems that didn't get the respect they deserved they'd wanna share?

Oh.
Before someone's all like "everyone's heard of arrested development bur-beh durh beh doop" and throws a tantrum and completely de-rails the thread, no. 3 seasons. Got cancelled due to lack of popularity.

I would have said 'Its always sunny in philadelphia' a couple years ago but I think more and more people know of it now because of the Green men at Canucks games and word-of-mouth. Two other hilarious comedies are Workaholics (Comedy Central, IASIP-esque in comedy) and Inbetweeners (British comedy that lasted 3 seasons and a movie).

Forget the ones that "didn't get the respect they deserve" -- have you seen the ones that DID get the respect they deserve?

If you want good dramas, make your way through:

The Sopranos
Deadwood
The Wire
Six Feet Under
Twin Peaks

I've never seen Hill Street Blues or Breaking Bad, but I've heard they're great

Californication. This is hardly a new show, nor is it unpopular but it is also not often talked about.
  • 2

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Down by the River - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

I really should watch the Sopranos... I guess I'm not big on dramas.

And Undergrads was a cool show when I was in high school. Such a shame they never made more than one season. Same with Clone High. I think I'm too old for the humour now though... :(

Loved these two. Never understood why they tried to re-make it over here. The accents aren't hard to figure out either.

Another show I used to love was Hustle. But then Marc Warren left and it went down hill. Though it was going down hill after the 3rd season.

I'm so envious of you that you get to experience Arrested Development for the first time.

Other under-the-radar types of shows:
Life and Times of Tim
Portlandia
Flight of the Conchords
Bored to Death
Summer Heights High/ Angry Boys

I'm currently going through the entire show on dvd. Its a spy spoof. Takes everything absurd about spy movies and makes it even more glaringly absurd. Funny show.

Teletoon late nights back in 2003. Great times.

I loved Mission Hill. Never gave Clone High a chance though.

I cannot recommend Inbetweeners enough. It's a brit sitcom based on four guys in high school in between social groups. One is too stupid to be a nerd, one too dumb to a jock, another who pretends he's a total player but isn't and the last is too clueless to be part of the preps. The show is all kinds of awkward and it's amazing.

“When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”-Sinclair Lewis

A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."-Albert Einstein

different style show but Departures is an amazing show

This show is the GOAT.

Here's a little bit about the show for people that are interested...

Aimed at the adventure seeker, Departures is an action-packed and personal journey about two travelers. Scott Wilson and Justin Lukach leave their lives behind in search of unique experiences through some of the most beautiful and remote places on earth. From epic landscapes and unforgettable culture, to the often trying times that come with international travel, the series chronicles the unforgettable friendships, personal successes and sometimes crushing disappointments that befall them on their journey. Accompanied by their friend and cameraman, Andre Dupuis, Departures showcases the revelations of two travelers who strive to find themselves and new perspectives while trekking across the globe.
Departures is as much about the journey as it is the destination. No prizes, no contests, just real life and real travel.
