Lots of great stuff in this thread

For dramas:
Justified
Homeland
The Shield (t I feel like people have kind of forgotten about it)
Oz (It doesn't get as much love as HBO's big 3, but it's really fantastic)
Terriers

Comedy:
Summer Heights High
Flight of the Conchords
Frisky Dingo (The funniest show ever made IMO. If not the funniest, definitely the most quotable)
Community (best comedy currently on TV)

I'm surprised Summer Heights High has gotten a few recommendations, but I guess that was the aim of this thread. I only heard about it through two of my Aussie friends (naturally) and got addicted. Chris Lilley is amazing in the sense that he is able to portray each of his characters flawlessly. Sometimes, I forgot that Jonah, Mr G and Jamie were the same actor.

He's got a few other series, Angry Boys and We Can Be Heroes.

Breaking Bad, Dexter. Can't stress it enough.

I wouldn't really put it into the category of 'never heard of', but more in the category of 'heard of it and brushed it aside'.

At least, that's what I did for years.

I love coming across shows that are far into seasons......that way there no waiting time for me to watch the next one! ::D :emot-parrot:

Burn Notice.
Supernatural.

Amazing shows.

I love Supernatural, it's filmed in the Lower Mainland mostly.

Wilfred and Louie are good comedies on FX.

And I agree trav_have, I slept on Breaking Bad until the start of the last season. I really liked Cranston on Malcolm In The Middle and was hoping he would do something like this. Good Lord is it amazing. And Giancarlo Esposito is outstanding! The "Salud" was my favorite, even more than "Face Off"

A show I hardly hear about is Third Watch. I used to love that show. It's a drama about the cops, firefighters and paramedics and how they work together in NYC. Their episodes about 9/11 were great

Chuck.
I'm currently going through the entire show on dvd. Its a spy spoof. Takes everything absurd about spy movies and makes it even more glaringly absurd. Funny show.

The final episode was sad... :(

different style show but Departures is an amazing show

I loved 'Departures' always had a heck of a time finding a channel that showed it, or a consistant time that it was on. One of the most interesting travel shows I have seen!

Karen at the "Purity Ball" last season was falling down hilarious....also loved the episode when Steve shipped Frank to Canada...

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Life on Mars (UK version better than US)
Ashes to Ashes

So...basically any show named after a Bowie song?

Wonder if that works for picking bands too?

Haven't seen The Inbetweeners show, but I did just download the movie.

As for the OP's love of Arrested Development, Netflix just made their first production deal with them to make a 4th season. However, it will probably just be on Netflix US at first. But still, it will make its way to DVD...(among other sources).

Yes, and a movie. Can't wait. Hopefully it'll be so successful a channel other than Fox will pick it up.

The show is simply called "Louie". It airs on FX. If you like his stand-up, you'll like his show-- it's dark and a bit strange at times (for instance some episodes are rather somber, or melancholy) . You never know quite what you'll get with the show, but, it's always great viewing.

Forget the ones that "didn't get the respect they deserve" -- have you seen the ones that DID get the respect they deserve?

If you want good dramas, make your way through:

The Sopranos
Deadwood
The Wire
Six Feet Under
Twin Peaks

I've never seen Hill Street Blues or Breaking Bad, but I've heard they're great
