Why on earth would you rush the development of a player when your winning and have a good team? Just so the fans can see their flavour of the month play? There is no need for the coach to throw out a developing player to the wolves and play him against top pairings during his rookie year when there is a great team in front of him.

It's like a no win situation coaching in Vancouver. He plays him a lot and he loses confidence cause he gets shutdown by top defensive pairings and fans yell that AV is a horrible coach and ruined Cody's confidence. Play him to little to let him develop and fans yell that coach AV has something against him and is ruining his confidence.

He is flourishing with the way the coach is playing him and fans say its in spite of the coach. He gets in a slump and it's the coaches fault.

I think he is developing nicely right now so why can't you guys just let the kid develop at a slow pace, especially when we are second in the West.

Hodgson will be better than Kesler!

That's possible, but he isn't right now. Meanwhile we have 2 art ross trophies, a hart trophy and a selke in our top 6. So calm down, wait for him to develop and then he will get his ice time.

I don't agree with playing Hodgson with 4th liners. It limits his potential. But I don't think that's the point. Hodgson is there to help guys like Lapierre contribute so we have better overall line balance.

I mean Malhotra getting upgraded over Cody is the biggest joke. If Manny didnt have a contract he wouldnt be in the NHL, hes honestly not very good in comparison to the guys on the ice. He just doesnt look good out their, so Cody being demoted to the 4th line is a joke, luckily it payed off for AV and Hodgson's goal helped us get back into things. and wow is cody ever clutch.

......

Please go watch some more hockey before you make stupid threads like this about individual player's ice time and complain just because you like the player. Just because you like him, doesn't mean he should play more. There are reasons for every move, and AV is making the right ones - he's winning.

So STFU.

He's earning his stripes.......he's got a lot of players ahead of him who have proven a lot more and paid their dues. Why do so many people want this kid to have everything handed to him on a silver platter? I'm sure Cody understands his role on this team........you should too.

This. Also, he's been making some defensive mistakes as of late. It's about managing the offensive game out of him, without having him be a liability defensively. He's been a bit dangerous in our own zone in the last few games, so I think that also probably had a factor in AV's decision to move him down.

Cody's defense has been off for a few handful of games recently.

With Cody, it's about maximizing his offensive prowess while minimizing his defensive liability (if any exists). When he is playing well defensively, we can give him 13 minutes of 3rd line minutes. If not, like right now, give him the 4th line minutes against opposing 4th liners, who Cody can take advantage of offensively.

Cody's still scoring, but his limited ice time limits possibility of his defensive gaffs when he's not playing well in his own zone.

Who cares. He scored, he's playing well and AV's the coach of Hodgson so he can do whatever he wants.

This is what I propose.... Sedin-Sedin-Carter/Perry/Parise/Selanne/Doan Booth-Kesler-Burrows Higgins-Hodgson-Hansen Reinprecht-Lapierre-Malhotra come playoff time. That is such a ridiculous lineup, its not even funny. Cuz Carter is defs coming here right? :bigblush:

Ah yes, why aren't you coach? AV isn't trying to ruin Hodgson's career. If he was trying to ruin Hodgson's career, he'd do what they did to Brule in Columbus - playing him way too much, way too early. You seem to think that more playing time = better development, but the complete opposite can happen. That is why people with experience are running the hockey team, not knee-jerk fans.

What kind of comparison is this? In his first season Hodgson has already had more success then Brule has ever had in the NHL. He plays with a thousand times more confidence then Brule.

I think AV might do well to experiment with Coho somewhat and increase his ice time by a few minutes. Weve all seen his effort level, hed very likely make the most of it. Theyve got the division locked up, if you are going to tinker with a few things now is the best time.

Might wake up a few of his teammates as well. A few of them have tailed off considerably.

Ceribral Assasin line! (Triple H)

That's the Triple H line, the Cerebral Assassin line would be
Higgins (Yale) - Hodgson (Chess Champion) - Bitz (Quill and Dagger Society - Cornell)

Just because Hodgson is producing consistently with limited minutes, increasing his playing time does not necessarily increase his point total. If anything, it'll tire him out and he might produce less cuz he's playing minutes he's not used to...

I think the coaching staff is developing COHO really well.

I sure dont want him to play on the second line against the opposing team's best
I sure dont want to play him on the first line agianst the oppsing team's best checkers.

I think putting COHO on the 4th line can really help Lappy. And putting Manny on the third line can give him a confidence boost.

Think of the Sedins, Kesler, Burrows. All developed by us. They all had less ice time than Cody averages now. And this is on a deep team.

I'm not seeing this slump you speak of. He was named rookie of the month for Jan... but yes seeing him play with better players would be nice.

AV is a moron for even attempting to cool down our hottest player. Hodgson has 1 point in 4 games now.

He's not on a slump...

I wasnt saying he was. I must of not mentioned that i was reading another coho thread and someone was saying he was on a slump. Well he had 3 games without a point or something but he was with pluggers.

All im saying is he needs to move up more often.

yay another post by someone who thinks he knows more than the coach, and yet this person is not coaching in the nhl, go figure.

Agreed! Why waste your time posting such drivel. He gets the ice time his play and his status on the team warrants. Maybe if he learns to play better in his own end he'll get some extra minutes.

It limits his potential.

Is it actually possible to limit potential? It might limit his immediate production, it does nothing whatsoever to his potential.

So Mason Raymond has earned the right to play top 6 and Cody hasn't? Malhotra has eartned the right to play 3rd line center and Cody deserves 4th? Based on what? Cody has better stats and has shown himself to be far more effective than either of these 2 and is relegated to 10 minutes on the 4th line.

Whatever happened to AV playing the players that had earned their ice time regardless of past success or contract? Icing the best team every night?

AV reacted to Cody's winning of the rookie of the month awatd by immediately cutting his ice time and demoting him. Any chance Cody had of showing his stuff and taking a shot at rookie of the year has been stripped by AV. He's an a$$.

I don't see how playing Raymond on the second line is any better than Cody on the RW of Kes. Raymond is a flash in the pan, would love to see him traded out of here. When Higgins is healthy, he's a 3rd liner that doesn't fit the 3rd line role. Trade him for some grit and heart.

They should be playing him more against "weaker" opponents and especially now while the games are pretty much meaningless (Canucks will be judged only on the post-season). No point riding the twins or Kesler and having them more susceptible to injuries.

Better to have Hodgson get some more top-6 minutes and getting used to it than say during the playoffs and (knock on wood) Henrik or Kesler gets injured, thus he's forced into that position unexpectedly.

For those saying, "OMG.... he might end up like Brule!".... Stamkos, Duchene, Seguin, Evander Kane, Patrick Kane, Hall, Kopitar, etc, all did fine in their rookie season playing on the top-6.
