Naming my son Kesler?

I think Kesler - meanings aside - sounds like a cool first name.

However, it is inevitable he/you will be asked if it has anything to do with Ryan Kesler. Right now, the answer would be "yes" and everything will be great. In 6 years when he plays for another team, it will need to be explained that he used to play for the Canucks - you're favorite team - but now plays for a rival team. A little awkward.

In 20 years Ryan Kesler will be washed up and people will make comparisons accordingly. He will now be named after a has-been.

In 40 years only veteran NHL or Canucks fans will remember who Ryan Kesler even is, and only at this time will the name not be awkwardly conjoined to a celebrity.

Still..... meanings aside, it sounds like a cool first name.

By then his boy will be kicking butt in his young life, and family friends will already know the story of his name, and people will be like Ryan Kesler who? OR they will be like; "Kesler? Like that shirt hanging up at Rogers, of the guy who help win the Canucks' first cup back in '12!"

I dunno. I always thought it's kinda retarded to name your kid after some public figure. I love Kesler and all but I'd never do that.

I heard of a guy who named his kid Linden. Thats not THAT weird since it's already sometimes a first name, and a type of flower. But still, it's kind of the same thing as some people wanting to name their kids La-a or Rainbow or Deshawnda or Sambiroqua or other retarded crap like that.

I knew a girl once whose mom was ridiculously stupid. She had a first name, 5 middle names, and a last name, and they were all incredibly retarded. I don't want to say her full name since that'd be mean to her but it involved a few words like Rainbow, Angel, Love. What the hell, parents.

I'm from the states and Kesler is my favorite player, also. However, please listen to your wife! Like the earlier poster said "happy wife, happy life!"

And in reference to Seattle's low hockey IQ...be glad you don't live in Wyoming! Talk about a hockey wasteland!! Hockey fans here are definitely a minority! :(

First name, last name, no biggie

Many families honour their ancestors by using Mum's maiden name as a kid's first or middle name.

Do think about what a previous poster said though. If or when your fave player gets traded (and becomes hated), falls from grace, etc., you may think differently about it. Mind you, you're not calling him Whitney or Lohan or otherwise losers. What happens when everyone wants him to pose naked?:shock::rolleyes:

As a wife, though, I agree, don't mess with her if she's against it. :sadno: Maybe she'd agree to it for a middle name - you can always nickname him Kes if you want then. B)

I'm from Seattle and love the Canucks. Of course my favirote player is from the USA, Ryan Kesler. So my wife and I just found out were having a boy around July 4th. Ryan Kesler is my top male role model for his passion, determination, and back checking. What do you all think of naming my son Kesler? I love it, my wife not so much. Just looking for feedback here, and hopefully some ammunition I can use on my wife :) Also, yes I have already though of Bieksa as a first name (LoL)
