ok, i think there is alot more to this deal than meets the eye. first the fact that when mike gillis was asked if cody asked for a trade he said no comment. which would make us think he did. but im sure we all heard cody's interview with james duthie the kid sounded really shocked. meaning most likely he didnt ask for one. rumour is cody's agent and dad pushed for this trade. now people saying he was never going to play before henrik and ryan acting like he is chained to only be a centerman. can he not just play on the second line wing?
sedin sedin burrows
booth kesler hodgson
higgins pahlson hansen

this kid was sopposed to be our future captian when kesler and sedin were gone. nothing against zack kassian i love the kid but i really strongly beleive we could have adressed our toughness issue without trading hodgson like cmon. i would much rather overypay raymond and a 1st for moen or ott.

coach v never liked cody he never liked shirokov he never liked grabner. i have a hard time picturing niklas jensen playing on this team same with schroader. and with kassian i think he is going to be treated like ballard. he is going to make him a healthy scratch in the playoffs only playing him when we have injuries. which would make this trade look extremely bad. cody could have played wing with kesler everyone would have been happy we would have the defence/checking 3rd line. cody hodgson dosn't have one negative thing to his game, he has all the traits to be a great team leader. the truth is we could have adressed our toughness issue without trading cody.
i also think coach v is a terrible coach on an amazing team.
one more thing this trade really worries me for what we can get for schnieder

The future captain of this team according to WHO, exactly? You? Fans? Here's a scoop........neither you or the fans of this team pick any captains, future or otherwise. A lot of people here are guilty of putting the horse before the Cody cart........and by the way, capitalizing the beginning of your sentences & player names, proper punctuation etc., would make your drivel here a tad more readable.......

Not to mention that this could have gone in any of the Cody threads that are already in existence.

On paper, this might be considered a bad deal, certainly offensively. But we have a small window of a couple of years to make this work and since we've got Henrik and Kes locked up, Cody wasn't giving us what we needed on the 3rd line. Instead, we have 2 shutdown centres on our bottom 6, and for Hodgson we get and absolute monster who can fill the piece that was missing last year IMMEDIATELY. He's crazy, in a good way. We also get another guy who can step in right away in Bragnani, who should have a good opportunity to be a more developed Connauton. It sucks that we're giving up a player with huge upside, but how many years would he be floundering on the 3rd line waiting for Hank to retire? Winger? waste of his time and ours.

Boston fans and media are laughing at us right now thinking we can beat them by adding a bigger guy in the line up, while losing our top rookie cody.

Oh but YOU said he was supposed to be the future captain of the CANUCKS, did you not? He may be an amazing person........however, unless you have some sort of crystal ball or have been to a palm reader lately, I believe there's only one outstanding case of idiocy here..........

Exactly. We got a player who, even if he doesn't score goals right away, will intimidate the you know what out of the other team, and we keep the best backup in the NHL if Luongo pulls a repeat of last year. Cody wasn't going to help us win a cup, with Kassian's style of play, he could. I can't wait to see him crush Marchand.

They're idiots. They won't be laughing when Kassian beats up on them. That guy can do some serious damage. Just look at what he did in the world juniors. I've seen some of his hits at the NHL level. He hasn't dropped off. We won't be biting fingers this year. We'll be running over people.

Well - if Cody is sooooo great - then why aren't the Bruins fans worried? After all, they are in the same division as the Sabres.

Either way, Boston loses on this deal. They have to put up with Hodgson in Buffalo, the guy they're laughing at us for trading, and we get a guy who can beat up on the Bruins. They get screwed at both ends.

Grabner sucks. Patrick White is in some third tier German league. Pre-Gillis drafting was mostly bad. Hodgson didn't fit the third line center role, etc.

How about the mods add a skill testing question before people can make new CoHo topics?

I think this is the point missed often, and the truthful answer is no. Now, I don't mean no, not at all, but I do mean no, not at the same level of proficiency. Kesler plays wing, but certainly not as well as he plays center. Malholtra plays wing, but it is obvious he is better suited to a center role.

Raymond plays center, but there is no doubt he is a winger.

Cody Hodgson is an upo and coming potentially talented center, and could have turned into an ok winger. Zack Kassian is a natural winger and potentially a talented power forward. Rather than trying to fit a round peg into a square hole,,,,,,get a square peg??

Barring catastrophic injury, we were going to have figure out how to fit CoHo in, Kassian will fit right in, working his way up the lineup. Not only that, but he is a natural Right Winger.

Burrows is an LW playing right side, MayRay LW, Booth LW, Higgins LW, Hansen is the closest to skilled natural RW, then we get to Bitz and Weise.

Seems to me we needed a power forward, natural right winger, rugged, net presence, soft hands.

Seems to me we got one.

agreed getting rid of white was okay, but are you gonna sit there and tell me that trading Grabner (got a 3 mil cap hit contract and is now a top 6 on nyi, granted he has discipline issues, but the guy doesn't suck getting 34 goals on a piece of crap nyi islander team) and a 1st round pick for Ballard our 5/6th D man at 4.2 million, and oreo who has been sitting in the ahl this whole year.... that was a good 1 right? only difference here is Hodgson was better than Grabner... Ballard had a good NHL history... Kassian is all potential... and Kassian doesn't have a retarded 4.2 million dollar cap hit...
