why did we trade cody hodgson

YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! KASSIAN WILL NOT HELP IN THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR LIKE CODY WOULD'VE.

And that's why Gillis picked Kassian up. He will be of *more* use to the team in these playoffs than Hodgson would've.

regards,

G.

Complete nonsense - it sounds like you don't know anything about the player - Pahlsson has been a 15-20 point scorer his entire career and has never scored more than 26 points in a season. You make it sound like he used to be a 60 or 80 point scorer. He has been a minus every season but one in his entire career- because of the role he played - and no one was simple minded enough to think that meant he wasn't a very good hockey player. He was and is a premier shut down center.

Pahlsson played 17:22 against Chicago and another 17 minutes tonight. The guy is still a defensive force - the whole 'this is a different Pahlsson" thing is a bunch of hot air - playing a shut down role on a terrible team like Columbus may have seemed misleading (if anyone even paid any attention)- but he has been playing excellent, intelligent hockey for the Canucks and AV is using him a lot as a result. No team is going to be happy to see him playing 17 minutes a game - it means he is being effective.

The Canucks did not have the same structure last year - we had less depth, and the third line was not a shut down line, and were nevertheless one injury to Hamhuis away from a Cup...

The idea that the Canucks traded their scoring depth is humourous - the difference between the shut down specialist Pahlsson and scoring sensation Cody Hodgson was 20 points... what a huge loss.

One inconsistent, over-rated rookie is not "scoring depth".

Cody wanted out. Case freaking closed. Stop freaking crying. This guy our next captain are you serious!!!!!! I am sick of it. He's gone and I am glad. He didn't want to be here,,, Premodanna. Like a labron James without his track record. Good riddance. Whether we lost the trade or not. Anyone who doesn't agree is not true to our team and will jump from ship to ship if it sinks or not. So if you don't like it stop supporting the Canucks. WE DONT NEED YOU AS FANS,,,, Our team is our team. And last time I checked Cody Hodgson was a Sabre not a Canuck. F..offff!,,,

Seriously I am on the verge of gorilla backhand pimpslapping the next person that brings up comparisons of CoHo and Kass! It's so frustrating reading CDC sometimes with these kind of topics lol ...

Also, no we did not trade a 3rd line centre for a 4th line winger, we traded a 3rd line center for another 3rd line centre (Pahlsson) who is more suited for that role AND we got a bonus in big guy with the potential to become the poor man's Bertuzzi that can hit and be physical for any of our lines.

No I think more people are getting sick and tired of people like yourself who can't even do a search on the topic your posting on yet alone even check to read the OP's post, because you think you know it all. If you actually read the post instead of just joining the topic to find a post you don't agree with to argue with, you would of saw this topic was made almost a month ago a day after the trade took place. Then, you just may have, still probably not, realized someone else did a search instead of making a new topic and found this topic to post in.

Of course analyzing the trade shouldn't be made until then. Yes both players have changed teams, and both players are taking time adjusting. That's to be expected. The point is that Hodgson would not be adjusting if he was here. He would have continued having the stellar rookie season, scoring slump withstanding. Whereas Kassian was NOT having a stellar season with Buffalo, in fact he rarely made the lineup. So taking out our 4th leading scorer and replacing him with a player who couldn't crack a struggling Buffalo lineup is not a smart gamble for the HERE AND NOW. Wait until the Summer when we don't need that extra scoring threat. I'd be ok with the trade perhaps then. For now they could have used Bitz if they needed some extra size.

Ok I'll bring up Ryan Kesler and Cody Hodgson then for you!

Ryan Kesler in his first full season with Vancouver had 23Points in 82Games. At the age of 21 turning 22.

Cody Hogdson first full season with Vancouver not even full had 33Points in 63Games. At the age of 21 and now 22.

Cody was way more advanced then Kesler offensively at their same ages, yet all the people here say what did Cody do for us? He wasn't that good, all of you need to give your heads a shake and realize what we really lost.

Cody was and is going to be a star player in the NHL, we all know the type of player Kesler has turned out to be and that took time, Cody will be that good but better, because he is that much better, and people are just to blind to see it.

Last night against Dallas we saw glimpes of what Kassian will bring to the Canucks over time. The screen on the Raymond goal was obvious. What I loved was his puck possession behind the net as he used his body to sheild the puck. He is so big that the dmen couldn't reach around to get possession. His foot speed is better than average for a big man. Some nice passes. Back to his net presense. During any scrums after the whistle I noticed the Dallas players were not making eye contact with him. With Danny out Kassian could have his ice boosted to 10 - 12 minutes which helps him prepare for playoffs. I read he was in Ruff's doghouse in Buffalo which is concerning as I respect him as a coach. But as a 21 year old this kid impresses me.

I liked Hodgson but his down side was lack of physicality and foot speed. His foot speed was improving but it was causing defensive back pressure problems. Physically CoHo did not hit and he did not stick check that much either. His ice presence will benefit from a puck possession game. He had that in Van but Buffalo is not as strong in that department. The upside will be more ice in Buffalo. He is a professional and I expect he will train this summer to improve on his weaknesses.

While Kassian is not as developed as Hodgson yet he does fill a serious Van need. I am liking the deal more and more.

MG stressed the importance of prospects' development when he took over. This team has its first round picks all lined up to be traded once they show any signs of an ability to play in the NHL. It is Grabner last year, Hodgson this year and Schneider will be next. The Canucks prospects' development programme works well for other teams and is good for the NHL.
