Clime on the farm is as good as almost any backup (save a select few
) in the league, if he is re-signed... I would bet on him winning the backup role if???
Lack is probably capable, has loads
of potential, but still has some fundamentals to work on & some muscle to put on to be physically ready. Might actually benefit from having the goalie coach around if he made the team, but odd's are his development would be better on the farm till those two things are done. Sometimes you don't know till you give them the stick; Patrick Roy, Jimmy Howard, Ken Dryden & Niemi were all sort of thrust into their positions before people knew how they would do but had potential. But best to call him an insurance policy.
But to the heart of the conversation; it depends more on how Luongo performs in the post season this year. I see every sign that humility may have finally caught up to Lou. After being smashed in the press, a few games in the finals & perception being that he would loose his job to Schneider earlier this year we saw something different. Lost was the pouting, the arrogance & the comments that "geez, I'm not doing so bad, why is everybody pumping his tires?" Found was composure, a smile and the knack for knowing when to challenge the shooter. His improving shoot out results indicate pressure situations don't put him in either his good or bad place. I think Lou is going to rock this play off year, and I posted the opposite last. Schneider will be very expendable, regardless of the backup, if that is the case!

CS is making 900K atm and will be a RFA come summer. What do you think teams will be offering for him. Should we re-sign him? how much and for how long? Halak's cap hit is $3,750,000 and was signed to 4 years. What would be our compensation if MG decides to walk away. (Edit: Make an offer but is counter offered and doesn't sign schneider) Would Lack be ready to play back up next year (Personally I'd keep him in Chicago for 2 more years atleast) Luongo can play 50+ games and CS 25-30+ games (keeping them both fresh) If raymond and ballard aren't signed/traded that leaves us with 6m+ to play with. I say re-sign CS for about $3,250,000 (2yrs) that leaves you with 3m+ to get a pretty decent d-man also if we win the cup *knock on wood* I bet salo is going to retire, that's another 2m off the books. Although I would rather if we keep him for about 1m. So many possibilities it boggles my mind. Thoughts?
