Nov. 28, 2012 - Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets edged the Tri-City Americans 3-2 on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, extending its home winning streak to nine games.
Dylen McKinlay scored the winning goal midway through the second period to give the Rockets the lead and the team clamped down in the third period, allowing just six Tri-City shots in the period.
"It was a nice play by (Colton) Heffley," said McKinlay, on the Am 1150 post game show. "I try that move a lot. It finally worked and it was nice to see it go in the net."
Myles Bell added two first period markers, giving him a team-leading 17 on the season.
Jordon Cooke earned the win in the Rockets nets, as the team improved to 16-8-1-1 on the season and 10-2-0-0 at Prospera Place.
Check some pictures from the game here
"I thought Tri-City skated well tonight and did a good job of stretching us out in the neutral zone," said Rockets coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "But I don't think it was a sharp night for us. If you look at the games over the last while it's been fairly easy for us. Tonight we came out flat and we weren't as sharp."
Drydn Dow and Connor Rankin scored for the Americans.
Kelowna now gets set for a two game weekend. On Friday the Rockets will put its nine game home winning streak on the line when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors. Then the Rockets will travel to Seattle to play the Thunderbirds on Saturday.

Nov. 30, 2012 - Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets extended its home winning streak to 10 games on Friday night at Prospera Place, scoring a 3-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in a fast-paced and entertaining game in Kelowna.
Henrik Nyberg used a burst of speed to get in alone on Moose Jaw netminder Daniel Wapple and buried the game winner late in the third period to give the Rockets the win.
Check out some photos from the game here
Damon Severson and Ryan Olsen also scored for the Rockets, who outshot the Warriors 34-20 in the game.
Wapple was the game's first star, keeping Kelowna at bay for most of the night. Shots in the first period were 17-2 for Kelowna, but the score was only 1-0 Rockets.
The Rockets led 2-0 in the second period but allowed the Warriors back into the game. Sam Firoetti and Braiden Doucette scored to tie the game, setting the stage for Nyberg's winner.
The Rockets are back in action Saturday night as they travel to Seattle for a game against the Thunderbirds.
Kelowna returns to Prospera Place next week for its final two homes games before Christmas, hosting Swift Current on Wednesday and Prince George on Friday.
Tickets for those games are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by calling 250-762-5050.

Rockets Home Streak at 11 Straight with W over Broncos
December 5, 2012

Kelowna and Swift Current go back and forth and when the dust settles the Rockets have its 11th straight home ice win

Dec. 5, 2012 - Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets came from behind on Wednesday night at Prospera Place, scoring four third period goals to beat the Swift Current Broncos 6-5 and extend its home winning streak to 11 games.
Cody Fowlie scored the game winner as part of a hectic third period that saw the Rockets and Broncos exchange six goals.
Fowlie converted a nice feed from Tyson Baillie with four-and-a-half minutes to play in the game, scoring his seventh goal of the season and completing a comeback that saw Kelowna trailing 3-1 late in the second period.
Check out some photos from the game here
"Sometimes you have to win ugly," said Rockets' head coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "At the end of the day we didn't play as well as we could tonight. I thought we were slugish coming out of the gates. It wasn't pretty but it was an important win for us."
The Rockets have now won 11 straight games at Prospera Place, improving its overall WHL record to 18-9-1-1.
Zach Franko, Ryan Olsen, Madison Bowey, JT Barnett and Dylen McKinlay also scored for the Rockets while Adam Lowry led the charge for Swift Current, scoring three goals for the Broncos.
Kelowna will play its final home game before Christmas at Prospera Place on Saturday night when the Prince George Cougars come to Kelowna.

Gutsy win .

This home winning streak is starting to get impressive .

Fun fact, it has been 32 games already, our record is 21-9-1-1 as of now, last year at the 32 game mark, our record was 13-15-3-1

Quite an improvement I'd say, I have high hopes for this team, very excited come playoff time.

December 16, 2012

Kelowna goes 5-and-1 on its road trip through the WHL Central heading into the Christmas break; team returns to Kelowna Dec. 27 and 30.

Dec. 16, 2012 - Calgary, AB
The Calgary Hitmen defeated the Kelowna Rockets 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in Calgary, snapping the Rockets six game winning streak.
After a scoreless first period, the Hitmen scored three second period markers to take a stranglehold on the game with the Rockets playing its fifth game in six nights.
Jesse Lees and Madison Bowey scored for Kelowna, who was forced to use 15-year-old draft pick Jake Morrissey in the third period, after an injury to starter Jackson Whistle.

Every Wednesday the CHL releases their top 10 CHL teams and then three or four more honourable mention teams. Kinda the best teams in the league currently. Kelowna's been one of the hottest teams in the league for like 4 weeks now. They were 9-1-0 and 8-2-0 the last two times the CHL released the top 10, plus the set a franchise record for 12 straight wins at home, they have the 2nd best goals for and goals against next to Portland in the league and after Kamloops amazing start to the season Kelowna is 6 points back with 3 games in hand...and their are 4 teams from the WHL in the top 10 right now and Kelowna is just as good as any of them. Yet we keep getting overlooked.

Dec. 27, 2012 - Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets extended its home winning streak to 13 games on Thursday night, returning from the Western Hockey League's Christmas break with a convincing 7-3 win over the Kamloops Blazers.
After taking a 1-0 lead after the first period, the Rockets broke the game open with five goals in the second period en route to the win. Kelowna is now 14-2-0-0 at Prospera Place and 24-10-1-1 overall, good for third place in the WHL Western Conference.
Check some photos from the game here
Zach Franko scored twice and added three assists in a first-star performance while Ryan Olsen and JT Barnett also scored twice. Myles Bell also scored, with his team-leading 21st of the season while Jackson Whistle earned the win in net.
"We've got great depth," said Rockets head coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "We feel we have four lines that can roll and contrinbute on both ends of the ice. We like our defense and we have two good goaltenders."
The Rockets are back in action on Friday night as the team travels to Vancouver for another WHL BC division rivalry game against the Giants.
On Sunday the Rockets are back home to host the Everett Silvertips in a special 5 p.m. start. The game is a fundraiser for the Kelowna Food Bank and fans are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to fill the Pepsi Truck for the food bank.
Thursday marked the Rockets first sellout of the season as 6,257 fans took in the win over Kamloops. There are tickets available for Sunday's game against Everett. (5 p.m.)

Can someone who is able to go to the games tell me how Ryan Olsen is looking? Is his 31 points in 33 games legit or is he feeding off of his linemates? What kind of style does he play? Consistency?

I'm from Winnipeg and if he's playing at almost a PPG as a 6th round pick for the Jets just this past year, and he's doing it through his own play with the size that he has then that's pretty significant.

Lower body injury 3 or 4 games ago. Actually we were 4-0 on the Alberta road trip before Christmas and Cooke and Whistle got hurt and the Rockets had to play their back up back up in Calgary, though they lost he became the youngest goalie ever to play a WHL game. So still kind of a cool thing.
