Jan. 11, 2013 - Kelowna, BC

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 6-3 on Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, winning its 17th straight home game and its eighth straight game overall.

Dylen McKinley led the way offensively with two goals and two assists as the Rockets erased an early 2-0 deficit to come from behind and preserve its unbeaten streak, which is now just one win shy of the Kelowna Rockets' record.

Riley Stadel, Rourke Chartier, Ryan Olsen and Madison Bowey also scored for the Rockets, who outshot Tri-City 30-29

Jordon Cooke was solid in net, earning his 15th straight win as the Rockets improved to 31-10-1-1 on the season.

Home ice will be huge. Hope we can keep that 2nd seed. Unfortunately we're a very mediocre road team. That could come back to haunt us.

Yes that is right, I hope now that the Rockets winning streak is over they come back down to earth.

Four Rockets Listed in Central Scouting Mid Season Rankings

Bowey, Wheaton, Bell and Whistle see their names listed by Central Scouting as potential picks in the 2013 NHL draft

Jan. 15, 2013 - Kelowna, BC

Four members of the Kelowna Rockets have been listed by NHL Central Scouting in its midterm rankings of North American players eligible for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Defenceman Madison Bowey is the highest ranked Rockets player, sitting at number 22 while Mitchell Wheaton is ranked 63rd.

Rockets leading scorer Myles Bell has been ranked at number 87 while goalie Jackson Whistle is ranked 26th among North American goaltenders.

Bowey and Wheaton have been excellent this season on the Rockets blueline. A second year player, Bowey has nine goals, 11 assists and a plus 27 plus/minus rating while Wheaton, a rookie, is plus 19, with nine points.

Bell is the Rockets leading scorer this season with 27 goals, 33 assists and 60 points in 43 games.

Whistle has been solid as a back-up in his first season in Kelowna, posting a 9-2-1-0 record with a 2.10 goals against average and .922 save percentage.

The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday at Prospera Place when they put a 17 game home winning streak on the line against the Spokane Chiefs.

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Spokane Chiefs 5-3 on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, extending its home winning streak to 18.

Five different Rockets scored in the win, including Rockets captain Colton Sissons, who had a goal and an assist.

Ryan Olsen, Rourke Chartier, Tyrell Goulbourne and Zach Franko also scored for Kelowna, who led 4-0 in the third before the Chiefs scored three straight goals to make it close late in the game. Franko's empty netter though sealed the victory.

"I thought we played a very good game for two periods, our forwards in particular," said Rockets coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "We got ourselves in trouble in the third. Three mistakes led to three goals and we have to learn from that. But I liked the way we played in the first two periods."

The 18 straight wins ties a Kelowna club record set in 2002-03. The Rockets franchise record is 24, set in 1992-93 by the Tacoma Rockets.

"I think our players should be very proud," said Huska. "They have put themselves in some terrific company with that team from 02-03. It's something that has been important in our room and our guys should be proud."

Alessio Bertaggia scored twice for the Chiefs while Jordon Cooke earned the win in net, his 16th straight win.

The Rockets and Chiefs will battle again on Friday in Spokane as the two teams complete a home and home set.

Kelowna's next home game is Saturday against the Vancouver Giants.

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 5-3 on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, setting a new Kelowna club record for consecutive home ice wins with its 19th straight win in Kelowna.

Carter Rigby led the offense with a hat trick while MacKenzie Johnston and Jesse Lees also scored for the Rockets, who improved to 34-10-2-1 on the season.

The 19 straight home wins is a Kelowna record, surpassing the streak set by the 2002-03 Kelowna Rockets. Overall the Rockets franchise record is 24, set by the 1992-93 Tacoma Rockets.

"We wanted to be a better home team this year," said Rockets coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "Our guys have done a great job of bringing that pride back into the jersey. They should enjoy it for now but it's time to move on and focus on the next game."

Jordon Cooke earned the win in net, his 18th straight win, also a Kelowna Rockets record.

The Rockets are back in action next Thursday at home against the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Rockets chalk up another home win in convincing fashion 8-0 over Seattle in first of home and home

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-0 on Thursday night in Kelowna, extending its home winning streak to a team record 20th.

Carter Rigby netted his second straight hat trick to lead the offense while linemates JT Barnett with four assists, and Colton Heffley with a goal and three assists, also had strong nights.

"The start was important for us, I thought our start dictated the way our game was going to be and I was pretty pleased with the way we played," said Rockets coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "I thought Rigby, Heffley and Barnett were very good for us. they were all involved in the game and found some chemistry which was nice to see."

Dylen McKinlay, Jesse Lees. Colton Sissons and Tyson Baillie also scored for the Rockets, who improved to 21-2-0-0 at home on the season and 35-10-2-1 overall.

Jordon Cooke extended his personal winning streak to 19 games, also a Kelowna Rockets record.

The Rockets and Seattle meet again Friday night in Seattle before Kelowna returns to Prospera Place to host Prince Albert on Saturday.

Last year the Portland Winterhawks had a 19 game consec home winning streak. Rockets become the first team in 17 years to win 20 in a row. But 2 of the next 5 are against the Winterhawks so should be tough to keep the streak going now!
