The thing is though that Weise has a role on the team and he does it well. It may not be a major role but whatever he is assigned to do, he does.
Raymond is a 2nd liner. He is assigned the job of scoring which he hasn't done consistently for 2 years. And not only does he not score but he also negates opportunities for his linemates. He renders that entire line useless.
I mean, Lapierre and Malhotra barely score but they still have key responsibilities on the team that they perform to a tee. If Raymond isn't scoring what else is he doing for this team?
Maybe now that Kassian has really clicked on the 2nd line AV can pull Raymond off of it permanently so that Raymond can really focus on his defensive game and can really own his responsibilities on the 3rd line.
I respect his potential and I hope he can turn it around because right now I see him as a waste of talent. And yes OP, I definitely share your fear that if we trade him he'll get a fresh start and become the player we all expected him to be here and then we'll all be peeved about losing a great talent.
But since this is a Raymond love thread I'll say something nice about him to end my post:
I met him at Hayley Wickenheiser's hockey festival in November. He's really nice and has great hair. Like seriously great wavy hair. I was trying to wish him well in his recovery but totally got mesmerized by his hair for a bit
Your attempt to say something nice about him does you no credit, if all you can dwell on is his hair. Why did you even post at all on a thread praising Raymond? Could you not have tagged your biased rant on one of the innumerable hate threads.
I am sorry but your comment below just sums your understanding of hockey to a tee
"I mean, Lapierre and Malhotra barely score but they still have key responsibilities on the team that they perform to a tee. If Raymond isn't scoring what else is he doing for this team?"
The fact that Raymond states that he is attempting to be a "reliable 2-way player" more than once should maybe maybe have given you a clue to what his 2nd line game is about. His scoring is in a slump but his defensive play is still one of the strongest on the ice.
Your title does not mean that you shouldn't have an opinion true but maybe it should mean your opinion should be more balanced, more accurate and more informed.
Kassian has played one decent game on the second line.........but then he is the new toy.
You state Weise plays his roll well, I agree, however he has also had some real bad days and plays about 1/3 of MR's minutes in a game. Mason Raymond plays 10-16 mins/game against the best the opposition have and gives little away.............that is playing your role well. MR covers for two shotgun players who can lose the puck in the blink of an eye, that is playing your role well.
The day the 2nd line doesn't need to defend .................let me know!
