Marc Antoine Godin ‏ @MAGodin Répondre Retweeter Favori · Ouvrir
NHL execs from three different teams told me #CBJ are expected to trade their 1st round pick (likely 1st overall) at upcoming draft #yakupov

I saw this on the hfboards and thought I'd start a discussion on this. The guy is a beat writer of the Habs.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

this isnt true....i mean come on ask yourself "do you really think a rebuilding team is looking to deal the 1st overall pick?

they might be listening to offers, just to keep all options open but besides that yakupov will be heading to cbj

Ask yourself this, would a rebuilding team risk using their 1st overall taking another Russian kid after their last one bolted back to Russia?

If they do end up with the 1st overall pick, perhaps they could trade down a couple of spots and get more assets. I agree with the poster above, Russians are risky, plus they had their issues with Filatov and Zherdev.

Ummmm, who is here is surprised? The only time it wasn't up for grabs was 2005 and 2004. Every year, what they will do tell the leauge, that the 1st overall pick is avaialble, and they will just see what offers they will get for it, to see what options are available. In this case, they might actually be a little more serious, and just not doing it to see what is offered because Columbus might have another early pick from LA if they miss the playoffs. But nothing to really see here. I am expecting them to use this pick. They do have crap luck when it comes to drafting russian players, terrible luck actually.

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

I agree that cjb would be nervous to draft another Russian. Now would the Canucks package up to get the draft pick then shop the pick. I could see that happening. This could be a crazy year because I could see the ©Oilers and if Montreal is 3rd they could shop their pick as well

If columbus has the first overall sure but drafting Yakupov? I would have to think hard look at what happened with Shirokov. In russia doing very well 48pts in 53gp.

I would love to see Yakupov on a Canadian team. The exposure for such an electrifying player would be unreal. To see him thriving in Montreal or Edmonton would be the best thing to ever happen to the kid. He certainly has the potential to be a superstar in this league. He's fast, shifty, has a deadly shot, can make plays, and plays a strong two-way game, as advertised by his agent, Igor Larionov. His passing is also very underrated, and he has great hands and great skating ability.

He has rightfully been compared to both Pavel Datsyuk and Pavel Bure. He has an element of physicality and can hit hard, but isn't a head-hunter and uses stickwork and positioning to grab pucks from the opposition. He has explosive speed and acceleration, and can create offense every time he has the puck. He's one of those players who can bring his audience to the edge of their seats in anticipation of a great scoring chance. I've been looking forward to seeing him in the NHL for months, and to see him in Canada would be even better.

If the asking price is anywhere near the price of Nash, no thanks.

Honestly though, this gets rumored every year. Obviously any GM witht he first overall pick is gonna see what teams would offer them for it. They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't.

Get on this one Gillis! Yakupov's idol = Pavel Bure. Pavel Bure's most affiliated team = Vancouver. Pavel Bure's agent = Mike Gillis...

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

Bure's mentor in Vancouver... Igor Larionov.

;)

Although realistically, I don't see Vancouver making a pitch for Yakupov. I would love to see it happen though.

Cory Schneider to Columbus for that pick. Get it done Gillis. Would love to see this guy in a Nucks Uniform. If you want a player that has realistic potential of scoring 50 goals in the NHL it will be him. Also if he played the full 70 games, he would have outscored Stamkos in his draft year by a lot.

i would think columbus will have another 1st round pick when they trade nash.....columbus needs to be competitive sooner than later.....it is no secret that the jackets covet schneider.....tampa, nj, edmonton anaheim and possibly florida will be battling to get him....getting a schneider, will be like getting a proven top goalie....imo, we will get a lot for schneids and more if he is in a package...what would each gm be willing to pay for a corner stone player?

Schneider has a high asking price.

Raymond and Gragnani will both be RFAs who have some value (albeit not tons). Tanev is a NHL ready prospect.. Canucks also have their first 2 picks...

GMMG now has a trading relationship with Howson (via the Pahlsson deal).

Man, I would love to see Yakupov in a Canucks' jersey.

So let's see if I understand this correctly. Schneider isn't good enough to get Landeskog as the other post has, but he's good enough to get the 1st overall pick? Huh?

If I were Mike Gillis I would seriously look at packaging Schneider for that pick. Assuming Schneider is going to be traded.

Yakupov in a Canucks jersey would be amazing.

I think it's going to come down to the playoffs because Luongo is looking super shaky these last few games. So shaky that he could melt down again in the playoffs. I really thought he had his confidence back this season. His glove was amazing and he was playing with so much swag, but he seems to have let one bad goal get to him and carry on for a few games. Totally unacceptable to me. I know he has his NMC or w/e it is called, but there is no chance in hell Luongo stays on this team if he falls apart in the playoffs again. The fans, media and his own team may lose complete confidence in him if he pulls this act in the playoffs again.

At least we have Schneider this playoffs.
