Hectic
dude. it says "some NHL teams" and you change the thread title to "many NHL teams." i guess what you're getting at is that 90% of the NHL believes that he's coming to Van - you know, because you're your own source these days. DIBdaQUIB
You mean the guy who took all the current core players, as young prospects, and developed them into a Cup contender? yeah, he's terrible with prospects. Ever stop to think that the Nucks don't have prospects good enough to break into a Cup contending lineup?
LegionOfDoom
I don't know much about this kid just that he's very good, is he NHL ready? And he comes from the same league that krieder came from? Krieder made immediate impact for the rangers, so assuming this kid is ready for that same step?
CB007
over point per game in college. I just worry about his lack of size after our D got pounded out of 2 playoff series in a row.
DeNiro
Schultz has made it clear he wants to play "NOW". If you throw your argument at him about having to "break into a contending lineup" he will go elsewhere. Besides, what arrogance for the Nucks to continuously use the quality of their lineup to keep young talent down. This team has got past the 2nd round only once in the last 4 years!! They went with guys like Rome, Alberts and Raymond last year.

DIBdaQUIB
and tell me who you would have used in place of those guys? Who do the Nucks have ready on D (aside from Tanev who slotted in aheadof Alberts and Rome)? How about fwds? CH? He had his chanceto earn his place, but he blew it here in Van with his primadonna act. Face it, there's no one who could come in and replace those guys on a game to game basis. 22sedins33
I think it's premature to assume his character is flawed without hearing his side of the story. He's got a chance to decide where he wants to live and work and I think many people if put in the same situation would do the same. Why should he sign with Anaheim and be unhappy when, by the rules of the CBA, he is allowed to sign with any team he chooses? On the Canucks side of things, they get a chance to pick up a top end young talent for FREE. If his character is a problem and he has to be traded, they get something back in return and the Canucks are still ahead because they would have picked him up for FREE. The risk/reward is so much in favour on the reward side of things, there's really not much more to debate IMO.

DIBdaQUIB
So you're saying we should have traded those players away for nothing to make room? And then give our prospects the limited minutes those players were getting? Raymond may have played some but we weren't about to send his $2.5M to the minors on waivers and hope Rodin or Sweatt or someone could play better than him. We can't guarantee him as many minutes, but Tanev doesn't have the offence yet to play alongside Edler, and they want to reduce Salo's minutes to keep him fresher. That leaves a spot open right beside Edler that he can take for his own. If Schultz doesn't take advantage of that by playing poorly against NHL caliber, then he can't fault us for giving him that chance and it not working out yet. If you want to be 'the guy' then you have to be able to live up to the pressure of playing larger minutes on a contending team.
