The Kassassin Train
Yeah I think Gilman is still there working on the contract. MG making magic happen again. I knew he had an off year due to the short off-season prep. MG with the huge announcement with Schneids. MAN refreshing every so often was WELL WORTH IT! bleednucksblue
If he chooses the NYR it will be because of more than one reason, not the least of which are: 1. Tortorella's willingness to give 20-year old rookie defencemen major responsibilities (Staal, MacDonagh, Del Zotto, Sauer) 2. the NYR young core 3. their recent playoff growth 4. ex-Wisconsin teammates MacDonagh & Stepan (who can personally attest to, and sell him on, Tortorella's coaching) 5. Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik and the rumours of Nash to NY 6. the NYR need for a RH PP QBing defenceman 7. the city of NY Off the top of my head, those are 7 very good reasons for him to sign in NY (much like there are very good reasons to sign in Vancouver) which is why the NYR appear to be one of the 5 teams still in the running for his services. Millerdraft
Miller- You make excellent points as always. However...it has been said he wants to play in a hockey crazy market and while the Rangers are big in NY they are clearly behind the Yankees, Giants, Jets and Knicks in terms of importance and popularity in the city. Clearly the positives outweigh the point Iade but just sayin'.
MoneypuckOverlord
Here's where I read about the cap hit : http://blogs.edmonto...post=v2#content With an estimated hit just south of $4.0 million per season, a team close to the salary cap – like the Vancouver Canucks – will have more difficulty fitting Schultz in than the Oilers would. bleednucksblue
I, personally, think the reason Schultz wants to play in a "hockey crazy market" is because he knows that those markets are cap ceiling teams with fanbases that won't be satisfied with just squeezing into the playoffs. It's all about playing in a winning environment and that means teams with money, imo, and the Rags are loaded.

WiDeN
Guess we will see. Off topic Miller...You have always stated that MG likes doing business in an under the table kinda way, with few rumors prior to things getting done. Any chance you see him going hard after Suter at 7 per and then looking at Edler as a pending UFA who with these absurd prices could fetch 6 per on the open market and moving him in a deal for a Ryan type top 6 forward? bleednucksblue
That's an interesting thought. I like Edler as much as the next guy, but if we could sign a Suter or a Weber, and then acquire a Ryan or a Nash type by packaging Edler, then it is worth the thought. WiDeN
Yeah, it's not like anything we propose is very likely to happen, but it's fun to talk about all the options we have.

RunningWild
Some interesting tidbits about when he becomes a UFA: Craig Button @CraigJButton Nuance of Justin Schultz situation is birthday, July 6th. Current CBA, age for UFA status is determined as of June 30th of that year (cont.)
-Vintage Canuck-
Would Oilers be interested in Streit along with Schultz on blueline? http://bit.ly/KQett2
RUPERTKBD
Word is out that Vigneault hate playing kids. Kids are his whipping target. If Justin is paying attention to how Vigneault treat young players, he'll probably not sign here
