Hedman
I thought it was just Niedermayer he didn't talk to, or else it would have been a huge thing issue in regards to Coffey and Gretzky last night.
Hedman
What I don't like is the guilt trip of him declining what some hockey legends may want. Why should Justin feel bad about making the best choice against them? That's what really irks me. And Edmonton just became a really disliked team. Phamda
Anyone think it's odd how quiet GMMG has been about Schultz? Other then what he said at the season ticket summit, he's been te quietest of all GM's in on Schultz.
stuckinontario
I'm just glad we didn't bother to trot out Linden, Nazzy, or Bure in a similar attempt to sway him. Tactic reeks of desperation, IMO. Gotta say, though: I love the fact that the Nucks didn't guarantee this kid a roster spot. If he chooses to sign with us, he'll have to earn his spot like everybody else - just the way it should be. Funny thing is, I think he'll be good enough that he'd make the team and play all the minutes he seems to be expecting, regardless, so I don't see what the fuss is about. Boudrias
From him being a huge Canucks fan growing up (and still is according to his head coach at Wisconsin), to his parents holding season tickets, to McKenzie tweeting "many NHL GMs believe he's headed to Vancouver", the only way he wasn't coming here was because Gillis messed up the sales pitch. Honestly, it was a tap in for eagle and somehow it appears as though Gillis is on the verge of a bogey. I mean, one of Gillis' biggest assets was supposed to be his ability to attract free agents. AV.
We've taken an honest approach throughout all of this. No guarantees, no other sales pitches form past players. Your move Schultzy.
The Kassassin Train
Haha yah i know that, but usually he's asked abiut it surin media availabilities and he'll give a gillis answer but I dont even think Vanxouver media has asked Gillis about it much. stuckinontario
Agree with this 100%. If he chooses not to sign with us because we don't guarantee him ice time, I won't care. It would be a selfish move to demand a roster spot, and also one that shows you don't have much confidence in tour abilities. No rookie "deserves" a roster spot without proving himself. Guaranteeing Schultz ice time just because of his big name would be extremely unfair to our other prospects and would piss them off for sure. LeanBeef
I shouldn't have opened this thread... We couldve done so many things to lure him here. -Compliment his play saying he can succeed with guys like Hamhuis or Edler -Remind him of where he's from -Guarantee him pp mins and he can possibly get Ehrhoff numbers. -we didn't qualify MAG to open space for him -asked our star players to confront him -Naslund will tell him how great it was to play here -Linden will tell him that its great to play here especially if you are from BC -Sturm will cause Justin to become starstruck and this call will definately compete with Gretzky's.. Justin: Hello Sturm: Hi, its me Marco Sturm representing the Vancouver Canucks, how are you? Justin: ... (Hears running on stairs) MOM MARCO STURM JUST CALLED ME! Momma Schultz: OMG!!! ASK If HE can Send you an autograph!!!!! Sturm: Hello?...
