According to Sport-Express, Russia's biggest-selling daily sports newspaper, Alexander Radulov has sorted out his issues with his KHL team, Salavat Yulaev Ufa, and is now free to join the Nashville Predators. The team can now retain his rights even if he plays in the NHL this year.

Due to his situation having had his contract suspended, he is obligated to return to Nashville and finish his entry-level deal upon returning to the NHL. The waiver situation does not apply, as he was not a free agent upon leaving the NHL, nor is he now a free agent upon returning. In fact, it was a punishment so that he could not sign with whatever team he pleases as a free agent; any hope of his contract expiring while he was in Russia had been shut down.

The KHL has allowed Radulov to join the Predators, as have the NHL and the Predators. Throughout the past few weeks, he has been trying to make his return possible. The only obstacle was with his club team, Salavat, though that issue has now been dealt with. He should be on his way now.

Scary team just got scarier.

They have so much offensive depth, kind of like Boston last yr. No single player with large numbers, but 13 players with 20+ pts, 11 players with 10+ goals. Adding Radulov to the mix is just scary. Detroit must be livid.

The Canucks-Nashville are virtually the same teams this yr (in terms of #'s). They don't even spend to the cap. Crazy.

Also; in what way is this a bad thing?

A star caliber forward is what Nashville was missing, and will help them grow an already growing fan base at a more substantial rate.

People here like to crap all over fans of non-traditional hockey markets, but growing these markets is excellent for the game, I want to see teams like Florida, Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Dallas, etc succeed to grow the sport.

I'm surprised Nashville is even bringing him back. After leaving them when they were a marginal playoff team back in 2008, he returns when they're Cup contenders. I guess the two sides have reconciled and they're goal is mutual at this point.

I'm happy for Nashville but is the conference ever going to be tough now.

Fans in Nashville absolutely love this. There's a pinned thread in HFBoards' Predators section, and all the Preds fans have been clamoring for him to return all year. It's a celebratory mood for them, as it should be. They're getting back a superstar -- just in time for what could be their biggest playoff push in franchise history.

The only team that has been harmed in all of this is the Predators. The rest of the West should be thankful for the time that Nashville was without him.

And he wasn't "exempted" from waivers. He is simply a contracted NHL player being removed from suspension. That has never required waivers in the history of the league.
