A player being removed from suspension has never required going through waivers in the history of the league. So this isn't "exempt", it's simply the rules.

However, it should be addressed in the next CBA, to avoid teams doing this on purpose to circumvent the salary cap. They could sign Russian stars in the offseason, "suspend" them, and have them come over after their season just for the playoffs. This is obviously not the case here with Nashville, though.

NASHVILLE -- Alexander Radulov appears ready to rejoin the Nashville Predators.

The 25-year-old forward has posted a Twitter picture of himself on a plane along with a message saying he's flying to Nashville via New York.

It appears to be the final step in his long-awaited return to the Predators, who have maintained that they won't officially welcome him back until he reports to the team.

Radulov spent two seasons with the Predators before bolting to the newly formed KHL in 2008 even though he had one year remaining on his entry-level contract with Nashville.

The NHL has already ruled that Radulov can return to the Predators without being subjected to waivers.

The Predators host Edmonton on Tuesday night. The team's next game will be played Thursday in Pittsburgh.

NASHVILLE -- Alexander Radulov is back in the NHL.

The Russian forward practised with the Nashville Predators on Wednesday and could be in the lineup when the team visits the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

The 25-year-old spent two seasons with the Predators before bolting to the newly formed KHL in 2008 even though he had one year remaining on his entry-level contract with Nashville.

The NHL ruled that Radulov can return to the Predators from the Russian league without being subjected to waivers.

Radulov will play the rest of this season under the final season of his three-year entry level contract signed in 2006.

"Adding the best player in the world not currently in the National Hockey League can only help the Nashville Predators," general manager David Poile said in a release. "Alex is a terrific talent and a proven goal scorer who will now have a chance to help the Predators and play against the best teams and players in the world.

"We always believed he would return. We welcome him back and look forward to his contributions."

The 15th pick at the 2004 NHL draft, Radulov last played for the Predators during the 2007-08 campaign, finishing third on the club in goals (26) and points (58).

Radulov established Nashville's single-season franchise record for goals (18) and points (37) by a rookie in 2006-07.

He signed with Salavat Yulaev Ufa in 2008, claiming the KHL's scoring title in both 2010-11 and 2011-12, and winning the league's most valuable player award in 2010 and 2011.

The six-foot-one, 205-pound right-winger helped Ufa win the 2011 Gagarin Cup as KHL champions.

Good for Nashville. They are one balanced team going into the post-season. Arguably the best goaltender in the NHL right now, 2 elite defensemen, 1 very massive Hal Gill, no stand out star forwards but all can produce (Legwand, Kostitsyn bros, Erat, Fisher, Wilson, Hornqvist, Gaustad, Smith).

I'd be scared if I were in the WC right now.

The thing is that the Preds were already serious contenders, and this is a serious top six addition to a very good team - nothing more, nothing less.

Those wondering why the NHL would allow this aren't thinking very clearly - they have left the door open for Radulov to come back for as long as he has been gone. The NHL doesn't have the clout to draw a line in the sand and say "sorry, you must be PUNISHED for daring to play in another league." They want Radulov back in this league and always have, and now he is and they are thrilled, end of story.

Did you even watch the game? Radulov was very noticeable, and considering it's his first game playing at the NHL level in four years, he did exactly what was expected of him. He charged the net, controlled the puck well, showed great patience with the puck, made nice plays, and even went end-to-end a couple times.

Plus, he was playing on the second line with mediocre linemates, and was up against the best team in the league. Legwand and Hornqvist looked dreadful. To blindly say he wasn't good tonight is just stupid. The Predators' defense and goaltending were very suspect tonight, and the defense coughed up the puck in the defensive zone, and didn't defend 1-on-1 well.

Radulov was the lone bright spot for the Predators tonight.
