Barry_Wilkins
If we fire AV, and Mac T isn't available (another team hired him) would anyone consider hiring Gretzky as replacement? To me I don't think there would be a better coach than Wayne for this team.

Barry_Wilkins
And to the people who think it's not just the players who play infront of him, well explain why Montreal didn't want him as a coach anymore after 3 years? If he was that good of a coach he would of never lost his job in Montreal, Montreal only could stand him for 3 years and I don't blame them. Barry_Wilkins
One can only hope. The canucks blow 5 on 5 and its been that way ever since AV has been here. All that talent and all they do is dump and change and attack off a turnover. Old school defencive system. Oh yeah, its the only system AV knows. afan
When Vancouver has 3 intimidating scoring lines, the afraid-to-lose moron AV said he wanted a checking 3rd line to shut down the opposition top lines. Hence, Hodgson, the 3rd line center whom AV dislikes, was traded and the Cancuks now have zero scoring lines because it's just so easy to shut down Vanvouver's top 2 lines. And Pahlsson in fact did not do much after winning the Cup and there is not much upgrade in Canucks checking. AV is a prospects' killer. After watching Hodgson and Grabner walked with almost nothing back except for Ballrd's 4 million dollar cap, AV has to go before Vancouver will lose other 1 st round picks to senseless trades. ChuckNORRIS4Cup
Firing the coach, blowing up the team or any other knee jerk reaction after going to game 7 of the finals is the definition of stupid

Pouria
He always makes knee jerk moves to juggle lines, and it's getting frustrating. He never gives this team the best chance to win a game with his line combinations.

Pouria
? Maybe you should be asking the Pitsburgh Penguins how that stupidity worked out! And somehow just somehow the Penguins returned to the Stanley Cup Finals once again and this time they won, with a differen't coach, easy as pie. Funny how Pitsburgh fired a coach who coaches exactly the same as AV, and even like how Tony Gallagher said the team has tuned him out, pretty much what they did in Pitsburgh because they were sick and tired of the stupid defense only game, and wasting their offensive talent by not being coach by an offensive coach. Buttock
I usually hate Tony Gallagher and The Province but this article gets it mostly right IMO, and some of the responses here surprise me. I like coach V; some of his decisions can be frustrating - some are downright mind-boggling - but he's a good systems coach and he's been a big part of turning this team into the juggernaut that it is. However, there can be no doubt that he is a terrible playoff coach who is frequently outcoached. Can anyone say he hasn't been outcoached by Joel Quenneville and Claude Julien? Can anyone say that we didn't beat Chicago last year in spite of Quenneville outcoaching him again? Can anyone say they're not worried about coaches like Quenneville and Barry Trotz behind the bench of good teams? Again, I like him and I want him to coach this team to a damn cup, but this has to be his last chance. What else are they going to change if the team falls short again? Management owes it to this team to give them at least one chance with a fresh voice while the Sedins are still anywhere near their prime. Another thing people seem to miss...this team does in fact play a pretty defensive system, watch how often we have four guys at our own blue line. No crap we were the highest goal scoring team in the league when we had two scoring champs and a roster brimming over with offensive d-men - that doesn't mean we play an attacking system. Vansicle
Adding to your point; even though they found Carlysle I am sure many regret having lost Babcock? And look at the the lack of passion & energy exhibited (on and off) over an extended period of time before letting Carlysle go. Last year their season was saved by Perry going off. But why was he a non factor at the beginning of last year, him Getzlaf and Ryan for big portions this year? The point being we are on a 4 week setback; not 2 years. Remember, in a business context you would also have to eat AV's contract and hire someone else for more money. And you might also go backwards (like Anaheim when Babcock left) before moving forward. Or CBJ when they let go Hitchcock, St Louis when they lost Quensville. Most go backwards when they let a good guy go!
