DonLever
CTV news had a short clip on the new Richmond Night Market last night. It looks very busy. I checked out the Chinatown Night tonight since I only lived a few blocks away. Not much to see as it seem to continue shrink in size every year. I estimate there were only about 2 dozen vendors if you did not count the food vendors. Some of the vendors had more than one tent, which made the night market larger than it really was. The area around Columbia Street was very sparse, with maybe 2 or 3 sellers down there.
EoH
Went to both nightmarkets and the new nightmarket seems to attract more people mainly because of location and the whole 'new' concept. Admission was $1 just to get in (possibly just milking the most out of the new nightmarket). From what I can tell, food is relatively the same and shops are too. Some old vendors such as the mini donuts and fried chocolate bars also moved to the new location. There may be some new vendors because the food is relatively the same.New flavours for the potato hurricane chip thingies and some slight variation of different stores. A lot of the shops had just minimum customers (just seems a lot crowder because of the masses of people walking around). But yeah, I can see the new nightmarket settling down after this year. A great way to attract tourist though.
Armada
I went to the old one yesterday and it was great as usual. Awesome food. I also heard from two other people that the lineups to get in for the new one is way to long and not worth it, since its a lot smaller than the old one. Avicii
New one sucked. Friends spent an hour waiting for Rotato (Yeah, we laughed pretty hard at that one. It's the stupid potato chip tornado thing on a stick)... I went to the old one last week, got one in like 5 minutes. The line-ups were stupidly long, especially for the good food. Ended up going to McDonalds after because nobody felt like waiting hours for like some food that's not even filling. As for the products, they sucked too. The only good thing about the Nightmarket is you can get some decent phone cases and accessories for pretty cheap. It'd be cooler if they sold counterfeit stuff, but that won't happen in Vancouver, let alone Canada.

Armada
I heard the new one is much bigger? I tried to go to it tonight, but was stuck in traffic for roughly 20 minutes, without really moving, just waiting to get in to park. So I skipped out and went to the old one. Lots of the food vendors are gone, and by the looks of it there wasn't as many shop vendors as well.
Avicii
If you go at around 8, shouldn't be that packed.. It gets really packed later on in the night though. (Or maybe it's vice versa? I don't really know, that's how it was when i went last night)
flapjacks
Went to the new old one tonight, it was pretty packed. Granted, everyone must be excited to go since it opened just yesterday, so I'm sure the crowds will eventually thin out when people are more used to it being there. Anyways, we got there around 7:45 or so, and people were already starting to pile in. I guess that the location was encouraging for people to visit, due to it's proximity to the Bridgeport Station of the Canada Line. As expected, the main gimmick for me was probably all the different foods. There were lots of different types of food and they were all pretty good, if you can endure past the queue lines and the prices. Lining up got worse as the night progressed, a friend had to line up for at least 45 minutes just to get some takoyaki. It was good, but not sure if it was worth that agonizing wait. In terms of other products, my friends and I didn't really pay much attention to those stalls/booths. A lot of them were for jewelry, (most likely) pirated Asian media, toys, and miscellaneous like cases for your phones and other devices. Other notes: There's a $1 admission and I personally wouldn't suggest parking unless you really have to. One, it's nice to take public transit sometimes and two, the floods of people walking in and out and all through the area of the River Rock Casino and general Bridgeport area seemed like it was very difficult for drivers to get in and out. Much easier to just go by foot after getting off at the Bridgeport Station.
Truculence
All those yellow and blue tents make it look like it was sponsored by IKEA or something.
BurnabyJoe
I wish Chinatown was more relevant. Would be the best spot for a night market!

DonLever
Are the night markets in Richmond opened when it rains like today? The Chinatown market was closed.

DonLever
Here is a Province Article about the two Richmond Night Markets. http://www.theprovince.com/news/Competing+Richmond+night+markets+kickoff+summer/6652796/story.html The owner of the market on Vulcan way said business was great with attendance increasing from 13,000 to 18,000 despite the competition of the new market. He also dissed the new market by saying traffic jams will turn off customers plus he thinks the $1 admission fees is a bad idea. What he fails to mention is his own $5 parking charge. The article goes on to say that the site of the new market, Duck Island, will be the site for a future convention center. Which means the new market may be only temporary. Dellins
Went to the casino one today, not too crowded due to the weather so that was good. Seems most people there (including me) were there for the food :
