ken kaniff
*edited to make the montreal trade more plausible so before the draft if everything stays the same, standings wise and not counting the playoffs this is what i would do to tampa: schneider to van: tb + det 2012 1st, tampa would have the 6th pick overall not counting the lottery and standings fluctuations to van: mtl 2012 1st, to mtl: tb + van + det 2012 1st mtl gets the 3rd pick overall. *assuming edm drafts a defenceman van drafts C Mikhail Grigorenko 6'3 200lbs. send Grigorenko, Kassian and Jensen play together in chicago for a year or 2. develop chemistry together Jensen-Grigorenko-Kassian offseason trade ballard, raymond 2013 2nd to dallas for morrow salo retires sign pahlsson 2 years 1.9mill cap hit sign rome 3 years .9mill cap hit sign bitz 1 year .7mill cap hit sign weise 1 year .7mill cap hit sign bryan allen 2 years 2mill cap hit sign volpatti 1 year .6mill ca hit sign gragnani 3 years .9mill cap hit lineup D sedin H sedin Burrows Booth Kesler Morrow Higgins Pahlsson Hansen Malholtra Lappiere Bitz /weise/volpatti bieksa hamhuis edler tanev gragnani allen /alberts/rome lou lack 1.8mill in cap space if everything is allowed to happen no trades get rejected thats what i would do

underrated
Your defense is extremely weak. Also I really doubt Montreal would make that trade. They need an elite young player rather than two crapshoot late first rounders. If Tampa offered both of the firsts for Schneider (and we decided to keep Lou and trade Cory) then I would accept that deal.
PlayStation
One can dream, but I'm not sure MTL would want to trade a top 3 pick.

Pears
Ballard, Raymond, and a 3rd offered for Morrow will make Joe laugh at MG for hours. I can't really see any of those trades happening.

bossram
Draft Day: If LA missed the playoffs, I could see them going in a different direction with the franchise. (They're already doing that with Richards/Carter). This plan is contingent on them missing the playoffs To NYI Andrew Alberts To VAN NYI 5th Clear cap space. The Isles only have 3 defenseman signed next year. Alberts is a decent bottom pair player. To TB Cory Schneider Keith Ballard NYI 5th To VAN Det 1st Brett Connolly TB 3rd Tampa need a goalie. It's clear. For Schneider I would want the equivalent of two 1st rounders. So it's Detroit's 1st, and then Tampa's first or Connolly. The 4th is for Ballard. Tampa needs top-four defensemen as well. I don't think it's too unreasonable. To LA Det 1st Brett Connolly TB 3rd To VAN Dustin Brown Like I said, only if Lombardi wants to change the complexion of the team. I think the deal is fair. It's similar to the structure of the original Richards/Carter deals. qwijibo
Montreal has only had 3 top 5 draft picks in the last 32 years Price - 5th overall in 2003 Svoboda - 5th overall in 1984 Wickenheiseer - 1st overall in 1980 Montreal desperatley needs a big talented forward (preferably a center) I seriously doubt they're going to trade away their first opportunity in over 30 years to draft top 3 or 4(when there are a couple good big centers available) for 2 very late 1st round picks and a young defenceman that they don't need. (Montreal has a number of good young defencemen developing in the minors) They would likely consider it if it was Tampa's 1st AND Detroits 1st IF it looked like one of the two big centers would still be available when Tamp's pick came up. I can't see them doing it under any other circumstance.

ken kaniff
@ mr therammer: good ideas but i dont think allen is worth 3 mill. plus i think we overpay for brown. he could be replaced within our system in a few years with rodin or sweatt. conolly will turn out to be better than brown so i doesnt make much sense to trade him away, given he is very early in his development and could be great

GrassyPonderous
To the post about drafting Vasilevski (for some reason the quoting isn't working for me...): I would rather see the Canucks trade back and pick up two 2nd round picks (or something like that) and use one of those picks on Oscar Dansk. Saw the kid at the WJAC in Langley in November, and I personally think he could be the goaltending steal of the draft. Had those qualities that people praise in goalies today. Poise, athleticism, etc. The draft is fairly deep through 50 players, so I would not be disappointed with trading 30 (amirite?) for say 37 and 47, if some team has their eyes on particular player. Zoolander
Nice thread, only thing I know is that in this off-season if we don't get a d-man and possibly rookie forward that can produce now (Seguin-type) ....were screwed
Zoolander
It would suck to see Schneider go, but maybe the reason Luongo hasn't played with full-focus this season and last is due to the fact he has Schneider breathing down his neck. Whichever goalie we keep tho,im fine with it.
