Keith used to be the only player on the Hawks that I had a little respect for.
Now I want To brake his F-ing legs!
Dirty, Dirty.
He is going to have a huge target on his back for as long as the rivalry goes on (forever).
He is slippery and hard to hit, but wih every player on our team taking runs at him.... We'll get him.
(god I hope we meet in the playoffs)

As of right now it's indefinitely until we find out if he waives his right to an inperson hearing or not...

Does anyone know what's that mean??? I'm lazy to look it up.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

Bob McKenzie:

Duncan Keith has not agreed to waive his right to an in person hearing but neither has the in person hearing been confirmed.

I can't say I blame him to be honest. If he's going to face the music for a long suspension he might as well have his chance to speak his piece. I'm shocked and impressed that the NHL is taking this one so seriously though.

I believe that if Shanahan is looking at a suspension of more than 5 games, teh player is entitled to a face-to-face meeting to plead his case. SHanahan asking him to waive that right seems to indicate he plans to suspend him more than 5 and is asking Keith to agree to a disciplinary hearing by phone.

Should be just 5

You tell me which hit was worse:

Romer's slightly late shoulder to chest/little bit of chin hit that cost him 4 games in the SCF, or Duncan Keith's blindside flying jumping elbow to the jaw.

It gives me little satisfaction until we know how Daniel is doing. We're still without our top player, and all Keith gets is a nice little rest down the stretch.

But the league definitely needs to send a strong message on this one. Players clearly still aren't getting Shanny's message.

Exactly. And there are only 2 options i see that would send the message.
1. suspend him for the season. or
2. suspend him for next 5 or so games vs the Canucks.

I am told no decision of any kind will be made until the morning. So all of this very much remains up in air but it's become complicated.

I sure hope the players have moved on.  The last time our star player was hit on the head and the players decided to get payback, nobody came out as the winner.

I'm not so sure...I'm confused and I hope Bobby Mac explains this whole waive his rights. I'm hoping that it means that it's going to be atleast 6 + more. If Keith waives his right it means he admits guilt...and if he doesn't means he's going in there knowing he has atleast 6...

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
League apparently indicated to CHI and Keith earlier today the hearing would be over phone (5 or less games).

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie
Hours later, NHL indicated it wanted an in person (potential to suspend for 6 or more) hearing instead.

Let's face it their was a dead zone created by the fact that the league has initiated the target to the head policy, taking the justice out of the hands of the enforcer. Especially so close to the playoffs. 5 games is a walk in the park, a great trade off to get rid of our superstar.i don't doubt GMMG called for blood

I'm not surprised. This wasn't a missed check or an attempt to recover from a bad pinch. This was a deliberate attempt to hit an unsuspecting player who was not even near the puck based on an altercation that had happened earlier in the period. Remember how Shanny went after Marchand for his hit on Salo and felt it deserved a more severe suspension because it was "predatory"? Keith's hit was the epitome of predatory and a deliberate attempt to injure a player with a violent hit to the head.

Take a look at the replay...he actually laucnhes himself just before impact to impart a ssevere a blow as he can.

It was head-hunting, pure and simple!! he should get 5 now and 5 in the playoffs! Players will start to pay attention if that happens.

Shanny probably wants to know how severe Danny's injury is before he makes his decision..

NHL first indicated it wanted a phone hearing with Keith and now it appears Shanahan has changed his mind.

Every player has the right to defend themselves first. If he makes a good case for himself, maybe he'll only get 5.

I think it's pretty unlikely that he changes his mind based on what Keith has to say though. The hit was pretty self explanatory.

I think Shanny does actually want to wait and get word on how Daniel is doing. He seems to base alot of his decisions on whether or not the player is injured.

More Dan Murphy:

Call was scheduled for Friday and still could happen if Keith waives his right to in person hearing. Door open to longer than 5gm suspension

Bizzare stuff. I've never seen the league change it's mind on a disciplinary matter like this before. Wonder what changed things?

The player in an instance of clear intent to injure should be suspended pending the return of the injured player - and they shoud forfeit their salary to that player for the duration of that period - that would constitute a fair deterent - the injured player on top of missing games, suffers, and the future of their career is effected.
