Manny Malhotra Named As A 2012 Masterton Trophy Nominee

Jagr? What did he have to do to get back to the league? Decide to get off his butt and stop collecting tax-free KHL checks for playing half-hearted hockey?

And I guess Boychuk had to get over the idea that he broke another player's back...what a trooper.

no surprise here Manny was the obvious choice, no despect to everything Raymond has over come

Glad to see Pacioretty nominated by the Habs, he truly deserves it.

Ever since Ian Laperriere won last year for similar cicumstances to Manny's, I was thinking maybe Manny would have a chance at the Masterton Award for this year. Just shows he has heart and dedication to the sport.

Sami Salo was my guess when the year started. Bigger part of the team than Manny is, has played longer, has played longer with this team, equally devastating injury last year, equally a leader by example...

Oh well, Good for Manny too...

I think Fleishmann might take it. He was told he may never play hockey again after the docs told him he had I few blood clots in his lungs. Instead, the soldier powers through a life threatening issue because of his love for playing hockey.

"[Hockey] was the only thing I was good at... When they tell you you can not do that, you wonder 'what am I going to do with my life?'" Fleischmann said. "I'm happy to play hockey again. I always hoped that I could play again... Even if I was playing hockey, I would still have to take [the blood thinners]."

The man deserves HUGE props.

Manny's nomination was well, well deserved. Manny never gave up his fight to contribute to the Canucks last year despite surgeries and not being able to play until the last round. Number 27 clearly has the Heart of a Canuck.

What a shame that Raymond's road to recovery may be swept under with Manny's nomination. Both were equally deserving.

On Boychuk being nominated: Someone please tell me, what were his struggles? What did he persevere through? Finally getting the guts to text Mason Raymond "he's sorry" for a near life threatening injury?

I still get goosebumps thinking of Game 2 in the SCF when everyone erupted in cheers as Manny got on the ice screaming, "MANNY, MANNY!" for his whole shift.

I think Raymond's injury is pretty comparable.

Breaking your back is a pretty serious thing. It could have afftected his ability to walk, let alone play hockey.

People shouldn't underestimate how much work and determination Raymond has put in to ge back to where he is now.

I'm throwing in Ryan Kesler after his Hip operation, Alex edler for his thunderous bodychecks after his back op, but my vote for sure goes to Mason Raymond for his comeback from a broken back. Sorry Manny, but your 4th on my list.
