It Will Be Better To Finish 2Nd In The West

With the standings being the gong show they are, it is in the Canucks best interest to finish 2nd. If we finish 1st and LA manages to beat Chicago we are stuck playing the winner of Detroit / Nashville. If we finish 2nd we would play LA. This is assuming we get out of the 1st round.

I don't believe in trying to plan these things and, in doing so, playing with fate....you play your hardest and let things develop as they will. That mentality shows weakness and fear - to win this thing, you must welcome all teams and feel you can beat them. That confidence is a necessary ingredient to success, so no.

Bleh thanks TS for getting the thread with the poll AND an explanation of the whole situation locked for your two line rant.

It would be freaking stupid to finish 2nd in the west because you never now what way it will breakdown, if the 3rd seed is so weak it will get taken out by the 6th and we will have to play the lower seed any ways. There's a good chance the blues could lose their first round match-up and the 6th seed win.

So not only is this thread title pointlessly wrong, but now we don't have a quantified amount of what people think... If you view this /topic/326612-do-we-really-want-to-win-the-west/#entry10522660">http://forum.canucks.../#entry10522660 you can see that most people thought 1st is better.

finishing first is critical to ensure home ice advantage. Not only for the possible 7th game but also to start the 2 games at home. I don't think that we can reliably predict who will win certain matchups (last year LA without Kopitar gave SJ a good run and SJ at any seed is still dangerous in my opinion). Either way, we will avoid playing St. Louis until the Western Conference Finals (if they make it), and this is important because they are an extremely physical team.

That being said, I would love a Chicago in the second round.

No but there are definetely easier and harder ways. Detroit or Nashville is a harder way. Last year one of the reasons we made it to the finals was that we got to play 2 lower seeded teams. San Jose had to battle it out with Detroit and had nothing left once they reached the conference finals.

Holy crap, someone makes a thread about this every ???? day. It's not a novel idea, it's been discussed to death, and it's not even a good idea. frack

How many times must it be said that the 6th seed could very well beat the 3rd seed?

Too many what ifs.

No team can match Bruins's toughness in the playoffs...and TIM THOMAS.

We don't afraid of speed or skills, coz we have tons. We the BIG, BAD, BRUINS can manhandle us like they did last year. Please NO MORE BRUINS!
