Recommended Posts

Woot 1st in the west AND eliminate the Flames, sweet, very sweet.

Flames were checking hard and their goalie played well. But, skill and the better team took over.

Nice to see our scoring coming fom the secondary levels.

Gragnani 1st goal and welcome back Ebbett. Hank 2 assists.

Enjoy the golf course calgary.

Canucks played terribly in the first half of the game but really turned it up in the second half, which was great to see what this team is capable of. Our forwards played amazingly defensively, especially Lapierre, Pahlsson, Higgins and Henrik.

Top line was our best all night long, Lapierre is getting a chance to show case his skills and this line is a lot simpler without Daniel - now there is one play maker and 2 gritty players to grind along the boards as opposed to 2 passers and 1 gritty player. Henrik is really on his game and making some unbelievable passes, none better than the one to Hamhuis in overtime. 5 assists in his last 2 games, Hank is well and truly back.

Our 2nd line had a horrible game, Booth threw some nice hits but has disappeared offensively, as has Kesler who was victimized badly on the Flames' 2nd goal. These guys need a shakeup, and its a bit disappointing that they need Higgins to play well. Raymond was the biggest reason this line failed, he had a brutal game and didn't even deserve the 11 minutes he got.

Our 3rd line was amazing again as usual, what's most impressive is that they generated so many scoring chances from hard work along the boards despite playing at the end of a back-to-back. Pahlsson had plenty of opportunities and Higgins looks like our best sniper on the team right now. There's a reason AV sends out this line directly after goals - it is our energy line.

The 4th line played well again, Malhotra didn't really do much for us but Kassian had a spectacular 2nd half to the game. Lovely huge hit and some brilliant passes by this guy. Ebbett was obviously one of our best forwards, a nice goal but he was skating really well all night long.

The lines need a serious juggle though for our next game. Something like this will help:

Lapierre - Henrik - Burrows

Kassian - Kesler - Booth

Higgins - Pahlsson - Hansen

Ebbett - Malhotra - Raymond

As for our defence, they had some scary moments and bad giveaways in front of our own net but after the 1st period really tightened up and played solid defence. Tanev was IMO our best defenceman defensively, he's racking up big minutes and threw his body around a bit tonight but more impressively, he had some nice rushes out of his own zone and showed off some quick skating. Hamhuis really complements him nicely, a great shutdown pair without Bieksa. Edler and Salo were their usual great selves, although Salo was caught flat-footed a couple of times, and Alberts had a so-so game without any big mistakes, but Gragnani had an amazing game. He made plenty of great passes, especially one to Higgins in the slot, and just a brilliant goal by him. Sure Lapierre played a big part in the net presence, but that was a great shot by Gragnani at a clutch moment, and with 7 points in 7 playoff games I'm convinced this guy will produce at key moments for us.

Luongo obviously had an amazing game. Both goals were great shots and he made some great scramble saves. Good game overall and we desperately needed to take 1st overall place in the Conference, because having home-ice advantage later in the playoffs against a team like Detroit or St. Louis who are almost undefeatable at home will be the difference.
