yea, where's the 7mil from?

the salary is pro-rated -- quite an odd makeup for salary but the cap hit for bieksa is 4.6

copy pasting is ugly so just use the link

They both receive $7 million -salary (without the bonus, not the cap hit figure).

Sami gets no BONUS and is the biggest bonus on the D.

Goblix has the link above.

Imagine Bieksa making $11.5 million with the bonus and how Sami feels about what he should make ,but isn't?

Salo has been a class act and the organization as returned the favor so far. I dont see any reason for either side to change.

I couldn't believe it when I saw Bieksa was making 7, I can't even fathom 11.5 compared to some of our other players. Don't get me wrong, I really like the guy and the way he plays, but not at that price tag. Consistency is key, Salo has it, Hamhuis has it more than Bieksa IMO.

I'm so glad that Salo is willing to stay around another year, I just really hope it's here.

What a great guy to have on your team. I'd get his jersey, except that we have so many players that I enjoy watching more.

Would like to see Sami back,But..at His age and amount of games He only plays in a Season,It would have to be at the right price.
I don't have a problem working 22 yr old Kevin Connauton into the line-up next year either
He is Physical,Has a Hard shot,can skate,Play p.p

You can never have enough depth on the blue line and if Salo is willing to come back at the same price he signed last year, you'd be stupid not to take him. Great to hear him say that.

When healthy he is still our best all-around defenceman... it will be great to have him back.

He may want an upgrade on his $2 million though as he has had a pretty good year health-wise. I am sure we have the cap space for it, I don't see Ballard coming back next year, neither he nor the organization is going to want to repeat him sitting in the box when they are playing call-ups/depth guys instead.

Next year:
Hamhuis-Bieksa
Salo-Edler
Alberts-Tanev
Gragnani
Protons have mass? I didn't even know they were Catholic!

7 million is including the bonus buddy.

If Salo wants to come back I'm sure GMMG will match the contract or maybe even offer him 100-200,000 more just as an act of gratitude for all he has brought to this organization.

sign 2yr 2.7m (1.35m per season)

Signing any player over the age of 35 to anything but a one-year is very risky.

Look a pronger and his contract. Albeit a lot longer than 2 years but still.

Salo is worth 3.5+ on the open market on a 1 year contract.

I hope Gillis doesn't offer him below 2, because that would just be insulting to a player who has shown nothing but class to Vancouver.

Give Sami what he wants - $2 million in cap hit - and the rest - say $3 million-ish, hire his children to count his goals (accountants). ::D

It would be great if he comes back another year. He's a solid guy to have. The current 2 million contract sounds right for him. People offering less need to get real.

I would like to reduce his minutes though. Next year he would preferably be on the 3rd pairing and can move into the top-four seamlessly if needed.

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - _______
______ - Salo

Ballard moved, probably one of Gragnani, Connautton, Rome on the 3rd pair. Hoping we find a solid UFA defenceman to play with Edler on the right side or get a good-young, top-four right-hander in a trade.
What is the deal with Mike Gillis, it always seems like he's sweating...

Just as long as he stays here to finish his career and doesn't sign a 5 year contract with a Florida team.

Don't worry, if it's the Panthers, they'll just trade him back to us.

3.5 in the open market? If you don't know how old Salo is, go check it out.

On a one year contract, yes.

He's 36, on pace for 30+ points, has nearly 100 playoff games under his belt and plays a consistently good 2-way game.

Great,another buddy.

Bieksa signed for 23 million over 5 years for a 4.6 million dollar cap hit.

It is laid out like this: 7, 4.5, 5, 4 & 2.5.

7 + 4.5 + 5 + 4 + 2.5 = 23 million.

The most consistent defencemen we've had the past decade. Honestly, when do you even remember a game where you can say he had an absolutely terrible game. He's sound defensively and has a bomb for a shot.

Salo is our Lidstrom. Guy is the most dedicated guy to winning than any other player on our team, not taking anything away from the rest if the team, but Salo is just a God.

Could've easily called it a career with all his injuries but no, Salo is so eager to win the Cup and will play as much as he can and do whatever it takes to win it; he is a true Canuck as well.

Seems like he has another year or two left with his great year this season, but it all depends if we win the Cup or no - win, retires a boss, lose, returns like a boss; all hail Sami - most humble guy there is and ever will be! :)
