key2thecup
Barry: 'We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in' Ward 8 D.C. Councilman Marion Barry is on the hot seat again. Celebrating his victory in the Democratic primary on Tuesday night, Barry spoke up about the prominence of businesses owned by Asians in the District. “We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said in remarks first reported by WRC-TV. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.” Barry, who won't be opposed in November's general election as he seeks his third consecutive term on the D.C. Council, was unavailable for comment Thursday morning. http://washingtonexa...s-coming/448886

Heretic
When I first glanced at this title I thought it said: "we've Got To Do Something About These Atheists Coming In" Back to topic - this councilman should be fired for saying what he said. DonLever
Wasn't Marion Barry the guy who was called the Mayor for Life in Washington, DC, who served 2 decades as mayor and was sent to jail for 6 months for drug offenses, including smoking crack on a hidden camera? How come he keeps getting re-elected? More to the topic, if a white guy says Blacks ran dirty businesses and should be replaced by white business, imagine the uproar. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be right out there screaming and shouting. Telling him to resigned or be removed. But when a black guy makes a racist remake, nothing ever happens. To many people, only whites are racists, which obviously is not true.
DarthNinja
We gotta do something about these crackhead-tax evading-racists coming into office. They ought to go. I'll just say that right now...

Mr. Ambien
Imagine the outrage if this guy were white and he were targeting blacks or any other race with this type of vitriol -- Al Sharpton would tear apart DC, riots would ensue across the states. But he's black so.. listen to the crickets roar louder than Sharpton, this guy likely won't even lose his job / be forced to step down, and hell, could be an admired spokesman at some point for Black Panther. Double standards sure are fun.

Satan's Evil Twin
Ofay racis mawfuhka! Yoos gawna pay sucka! Seriously, if I were Barry and my demographic powerbase was parasitic ghetto trash that support me no matter what, I wouldn't want any other group moving in either. DonLever
Marion Barry has apologized for his comments, sort of. Marion Barry, "I am very sorry for offending the Asian American community" , with, an "admittedly bad choice of words". But then he goes on to say, "We are tired of substandard treatment, tired of being kept at arm's length distance, tired of lack of community engagement." http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/dcs-marion-barry-widely-rebuked-for-comments-about-asian-business-owners/2012/04/05/gIQA27SVyS_story.html So, there is something behind these "racist" statements. Reading behind the lines, I suppose he means blacks are not treated well by some Asian Shopkeepers.
