I hope he doesn't pull what most people do when they get back from a concussion, which is whine every time an opposing player makes any contact. Remember last year when that guy snapped at Hamhuis because Hamhuis dared to hit him after the guy came back from a concussion?

Ballard isn't one to complain. If anything he ll be initiating contact tonight to get right into the game. He must be chomping at the bit.

u

ugh, i can't stand bolland. The guy got away with EVERYTHING last playoffs. shutting down the sedins=literally winding up with his stick like an axe over his head and breaking sedin's stick. no penalty. i don't understand how these refs aren't fired.

I actually would be surprised to see Ballard throw any hipchecks tonight. I imagine he keeps his game simplified until he gets his timing back.

i'm scared of the opposite. He'll want to come back and make an impact! If he misses though, hell leave a defensive hole the size of texas...

It'll be good to see him back out there, I just hope his timing is ok. He's not the biggest guy and if his timing is crazy-off, he might find himself in trouble with big bodies like Kopitar and Penner on the attack.

That being said I think he's amped to play, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has another one of those rushes up ice where he takes a shot, steamrolls the defence, and gets his own rebound.

It wasn't cause Rome played badly, more just because you are not going to see a Rome-Tanev pairing so AV can't reunite Edler and Salo and hammer and juice.
This way we can go back to the D pairings we played with most of the year, I like it!

Rome wasn't that bad in game 1. Certainly better then Eddie which was kind of shocking.

Hopefully Ballard will hipcheck a few people tonight.

i heard bettmann buys each ref that gives ballard a clipping penalty a years supply of tim hortans donuts

Tanev should be the one sitting out.

Based on performance, you're right. I think they probably want to keep a righty and a lefty on all three pairings....
Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Rome was ok last game, but I'm pretty glad that Ballard is back!

Also, Higgins is the missing piece of the 2nd line, although he was doing excelent with Pahlsson and Hansen, Kesler and Booth need someone to help them get back on fire. Raymond is not bad at the defensive end, he can kill penalties and this kind of stuff...also, I liked him last game, I just hope he uses Hansen to build up some speed and scoring chances.

I would rather have Andrew "The Garbage" Alberts than a healthy Rome or a rusty Ballard.

Rome is good at getting his shot to the net and hasn't cost us out there. Andrew Alberts is a big dman who can move bodies in front of the net.
Ballard throws a good hipcheck but is a frustrating dman to watch at times....he is either really good or really bad. He has the skill to be more consistant and he really reminds me of Bieksa a couple of seasons ago. Bieksa has adjusted his game and has learned when to go on the offence....Ballard needs to learn that he has to make sure that he doesn't get caught going for the big hit.
Everyone of these players that you trashed are going to be called upon in this playoff run. Don't expect them to be a 'Dan Hamhuis' out there and realize that they all bring a something to the table....just not the 'full meal deal'.

Defense Lineup from the skate this morning

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Salo
Ballard - Tanev
As well, Lapierre back with hank and burr

yes I like that D lineup. And the first line with Lappy is way better then the first line with Raymond.

F*&% YEAH REGULAR PAIRINGS FTW

Though I'd rather have Rome in instead of Tanev at this moment. I thought Romer played better than Tanev, but I guess Tanev is the natural right-side defenseman, and he played decent last game.

Nah, with guys like Edler, you let them play themselves out of the funk ASAP and play them as much as you do regularly. When your team's success depends on the player, you keep them in the lineup no matter what and pray that they break out of the funk.

It's only role players like Bitz, Weise, Kassian, Manny, Raymond, Rome, Tanev, etc that you scratch - not your core guys like Sedins, Kesler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Salo, etc.

Yeah, though he did let himself get creamed a few times.

It bugs me when people pull out the gold medal for an example... Luongo only had to outplay Brodeur.

Re-uniting AMEX line? Ballard - Tanev? Lappy on first? Someone learned how to do their job all of the sudden.

It's obvious that Canucks management reads CDC everyday and adjusts their game accordingly. :bigblush:

right now Rome is the more solid player can't afford to let edler play through it if he's going to suck on the pp and give away gwg.

Yeah, though he did let himself get creamed a few times.

That's not his fault though - he got crushed to make the plays. If Tanev got creamed and turned the puck over as a result, that would be a problem, but I have no issue with him sacrificing his body to make plays - that's playoff hockey.

We have to let Edler play through it especially since this is the 1st round and it will only get harder from here. We are going to need Edler to play his game in order to go all the way. If Edler doesn't find his way out then we're not going to go to far.

Rome may be the quick fix for now, but that quick fix may come back to bite us later if that means that Edler doesn't find his game by sitting out.

I like Lappy on the first because he's like a magnet to other teams pests. They're too busy worrying about what he's doing that Henrik and Burrows will just be able to do their thing.

glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. The way edler played in game 1, I wouldn't want him on my bchl team let alone the nucks. Hopefully he plays better tonight.

I am not a Rome fan but he was one of the defensemen who played well in Game 1, and he will sit tonight? Sometimes AV's decision is just hard to understand...
