Quick is very overrated. Sure he made 40+ saves but the defence is boxing us out very well and limiting chances off the rush or from the slot so Quick doesn't have much work to do, and he's let up some really stinky rebounds lately.

Meanwhile, the only offence the Kings are generating is from Canuck mistakes. If we tidy up our own mistakes we basically shutdown their offence which isn't as good as we're making it look - its very opportunistic and taking advantages of the chances we're giving it, while their defence isn't slipping up at all (due to great coaching style as well) so we're making all the offence ourselves out of nothing.

There's no harm and no risk in starting Schneider in Game 3. The boys will play well in front of him.
My biggest concern is that if LA decides to run Schneider (and they will), the Canucks will do nothing but stand and blink and wait for a penalty.
Somebody needs to step up. Seriously. This is the playoffs. Guys will risk suspensions to turn the tide of a series by taking headshots or whatever.
And if by some miracle we win this series, the next team will continue taking out the Canucks stars, one by one.
And the rest of the Canucks will stand and blink and wait for a penalty to be issued.

I think that trying to match their physicality has been the downfall of our play so far. We're spending our time trying to match their physicality instead of focusing our energy on beating them in puck battles.Agree though that we've matched them physically, Luongo's been our best player as well.Tanev and Edler have had a bad start to the series. This doesn't mean that I don't like to have them on the Canucks, but I think it's time to sit out one of them. It's fine to sugar-coat it and say that Tanev will turn it around, but we also have to realize that he just can't handle the Kings forwards and has a lot of areas to improve on in the off-season.Edler has been terrible in both games. No big hits, one good shot that got tiped and multiple horrible giveaways.Tanev will be a nice solid d-men for us for years to come, but it's time to give Rome/Alberts or MAGs a shot...If one takes of the Canucks-coloured glasses, it would be really hard to make an argument that we wouldn't have been better of playing a d-man other then Edler in the first two games. I know what he's capable of, but he just seems asleep out there. Maybe it'll take a big hit or two to get him back into it.

Noooooo! Do not put Mags in to replace Edler or Tanev if you're worried about turnovers. Edlers play has been very unusual and sometimes down right frustrating but given he's no rookie to the playoffs I think you have to allow him to play through it. Alberts is not a bad idea but I just think the team as a whole are trying to do too much as an individual.

Henrick who is so famous for his touch passes but tried to man handle his way to the front of the net instead of passing to the point and Kesler is trying to shoot the puck from 20 ft out instead of trying to create a play. It either gets blocked/deflected by the defender or Quick reads the play and smothers it. They're gripping their sticks too tight and I think they really miss Daniel. I blame the Blackhawks for this!!!!!!!! Dam Blackhawks!!!!!!!!

We will prevail. Go Canucks Go!!!!

Well said.

What did I see the second time?

1 We had more than enough play and chances to win the game.

2 Our physicality more than matched LA.

3 We need to concentrate on parking a man in front of the net..........at both ends.

4 Edler and Luongo were neither weak nor to blame for the defeat.

5 We must try to pass laterally in front of Quick. We are faced in Quick, with a net minder who is trying to do a Tim Thomas on us. He is taking the piss with the distance he is venturing out of his goal area. We must find an angle by giving the shooter a lateral option instead of the low percentage shot. I think we should use Kassian more to stand in front of Quick. This would be an ideal way of using his size and his attitude.

6 It's good to have Ballard back. Apart from a couple of moments it was like he had never been away. I also think by the 3rd game he will have calmed Tanev down enough to find his best game. Tanev didn't play badly it was just that he wasn't at his best.

7 Kesler looks as if he is about ready to light up.

8 There are players in our team who look ready to break out. They are playing well but getting little reward. Kesler, Raymond, Hansen, Pahlsson, Burrows, Sedin and to a lesser extent Higgins, Booth and Ebbett. Kassian needs a set role (like Volpatti) Use him to screen, and throw his weight about in front of Quick. This team isn't Boston and although they are physical they are NOT intimidating.

9 We need to guard against leaving the back door open against this team. As far as I can see that is their only real weapon, the counter attack. Deny them that and I think we will rip them a new one. On the same theme, when we are all over them, we are getting ourselves out of position in our determination to score and losing concentration. More control and adhesion in our system is required.

Lastly if I was LA I wouldn't feel too cocky. There were signs there that given a break or two we will be a hot handful in LA. Personally I can't wait for it. Get our PP sorted (at least so it doesn't leave us vulnerable to counterattack) and we will start to roll.

Wow. Did the Canucks win the game the second time you watched it because it sounds like they were dominant

Not trying to sound like a jack ass but you needed to watch the game twice to get all these?

I always watch important games 2 times to understand what the canucks and opponents are doing. In the moment, there's is way to much emotion to actually focus in on the strategy of the game

Thanks OP for the detailed analysis. I am confident that the boys will start rolling in G3 and the comeback in this series is just about to break out Sunday night at the Staple Center. Go Canucks!

You misunderstood the post I'm afraid.

To put it in a nutshell. The score said 4-2 LA............the game I watched said overtime, anyones game...........and with a bit more discipline (i.e. less giveaways, keeping the back door shut) yes a Canucks win.

I'm only saying how it looked to me second time round.

I don't care if you were sitting alongside MG himself my opinion having watched it twice is as valid as yours. Your whole post is a study in gratuitous despair.

If you insist they were terrible, I have to either question you judgement or assume you got cleaned out at the casino on the way home.

I didn't say they played great or that they couldn't improve I said that there seemed to be an exaggerated gloom about the display and they in fact, given a few breaks, did enough to win.

I'll make it plain for you. They HAVE actually played worse this season and won.............more than once.

They can have as many chances as you want but it's the God damn playoffs. Players need to step up their game, and you can't tell me they have. They're treating games like regular season games. Perhaps you don't remember Round 1 vs Chicago last year? That's what you call stepping up your game from the regular season.

Doesn't not capitalizing on scoring chances make our team look even worse?

Honestly, why don't YOU watch the game again. If you are talking about effort then I saw no lack of effort OR desire. Maybe they are trying too hard, I don't know. They are making mistakes but they are making an abundance of chances.

For whatever reason, they are having to rack up their game because lets face it they have not played as well as last season. That does not happen over night. Added to that they are missing an elite player who kills the opposition and has a unique understanding with his twin.............Are you just ignoring that?

We have got a second line which is going to have to find the kind of form they HAVEN'T shown this season (I don't rate this AMEX line crap.....it has never lit up for more than one player at a time, that is not lighting up at all )

Despite ALL that we still looked like we could have taken LA the other night, if we had cut out the errors and bought a break.

Might as well watch reruns of Archie Bunker! Bottom line AV better start coaching and stop coasting or all will be over soon! This team can win the cup but needs to be coached at a higher level than the regular season. There is no next time with everything on the line!

How come the canucks keep insisting on dumping the puck on each power play.

1. They are not fast enough to go and recover the puck
2. LA players already know what is coming so they stay inside their zone and wait till a canucks sends the puck in.

I always wondered about this play. It never works, unless the other team is changing the penalty killers.

Good point. I was noticing that too that we keep just dumping the puck. Granted LA knows our pattern/gameplan it would be easy for them to counter us. Yes, it seems LA has the book on us but we don't seem to have anything on them. I felt the same way about Bruins last season too. It seemed they had an advantage over us.
