Goaltending is about consistancy and putting up the numbers ! Coaches and managers use stats to build their teams. Goalies need to put up consistant numbers,,,as do scorers...and defencemen need to be on the plus side. Shut down players need to do just that. Its about balance in a team.
How well Schneider does as a starter is anyones guess..how he handles the grind and pressure .But one thing is a for sure..he has the fundamentals down pat, plays by the book and trusts in this and his ability. He plays by the numbers....its what everyone does.
Hopefully tonight he will help the Canucks win but I'm betting he'll compete at the highest level and not beat himself.

Have you followed this series at all?

Luongo has been very good at points in the season, good at other times, on some goals he hasn't been great, and on a few goals he's been bad..........a microcosm of his time in Vancouver.

I hate CDC. I think this is the thread that finally makes me stop coming here.

I wonder if you're getting pluses because people agree with you or because people don't want you to come back

Oh god. I feel sorry for Luongo. One of these goalies are going to be moved in the summer.

I hope this pays off. Maybe we will get a Cam Ward situation going on here?

This. We've made Quick look better than he is. He really hasn't had to make any outstanding saves. Personally, I take the stats on both goaltenders with a grain of salt.

Quick plays a better positional game, like Cory, and makes saves look easy. Lou is out of position more and has to make saves look bigger then they are. He was not good last game and it is sad some of you feel we should play lou because it's classy etc.... We need a win bad and Cory has been better all year then Lou, if he has lost his spot to a better goalie then so be it. If Cory can't do the job at some time on the playoffs Lou will get another chance.

This should shake the team up.

They like Lu and should feel like they have let him down. He did all he could, but the guys in front of him hung him out to dry. This better kick start the rest of the squad.

Plus, Schneider will see this as his big chance to shine, and stake his claim as #1. He will bring his A game.

Maybe He is,
I think Cory is in a very Tough Situation though !
He has been thrown into a must win situation !

Most goalies if they were to lose,You hear them state, they were rusty from not playing, need to work the bugs out etc -Not Cory,He mans up and takes responsibilty for his play, right or wrong

Hopefully He plays a great game,as well as the Canucks and Pull out the win
Roberto said it best the other day " Its not about who plays Goal, Its about the Team"

I agree - but Cory is in a Win Win situation.

If the Canucks win - he wins!
If the Canucks lose - it's no problem, it was a tough situation, he's young, he's just the back up, etc etc.

I've played goal and my daughter played goal.

There's a different pressure and expectation on the number 1 goalie.

McCoy: We were speculating. Is God really out there?
Kirk: Maybe he's not out there, Bones. Maybe he's right here. [points to his heart]

I didn't say he was great. A lot of people here have been using terms like "lights out" and "on fire" to describe Lu's play.

I think he was very good, considering the support he got, but in the playoffs, your goalie needs to be great.

Maybe I did overstate it a bit, with "all he could". But I am trying not to put the blame on him. He definitely is capable of playing better. If you look at my posts in the other goalie threads, you will see I am a Team Schneider guy. But in fairness, Lu has been the least of the teams problems so far.

What i fear will happen tonight, is We as a team will show up, and win convincingly. Not because of the addition of Schneider to our starting line up, but because they realize that they can't go down 3-0 and it's about time they show up. However the media and many fans will take it as a sign that luongo has lost his starter job, and the team plays better with Schneider etc, when really the team hasn't played a game this series so far.
Sig space too small.

You fear we might play well?
If we play well and Cory plays very well then Lou has certainly lost his job temporarily.
Many think Lou should have lost the starting job months ago.

What an enlightening post. Pure speculation, nothing more.

When did you become a goalie analyst and expert in the position? Vancouver seems to have an abundance of goalie analysts. Amazingly, none of them have never studied the position, nor have played it.

Thankfully the organization is wise enough not to listen to the likes of bandwagon fans. Win or lose, Luongo will be back in for game four.

Best news all day.

4 goals on 27 shots?

goal allowed with 8 seconds left in the period?

go ahead goal allowed with 3 minutes left????

Curcial moments of the game.

Not great goaltending at all. Mediocre, nothing to lose here, Schneider has been reliable for us all season long. Go Canucks go!

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

combine results.  Ehlers 5'11 162 lbs of solid rock.

agreed....Lu is finished in Vancouver because of the media and some of these fans.I just wonder how long will it take for these ppl to turn on Cory.Vancouver is a crappy market for goalies we will never win a cup in this market.

I don't recall the fans doing anything to him while he craps the be dthe first two months for the last few seasons

Also expectation levels are different. You can't expect a back up goalie to perform on par with 5 time NHL all star 3 time vezina nominee 3 team team Canada, Gold medal goalie.

first things first. i really like Cory. I think he is great goalie and deserving of the start.

However. I must point out that Lou did not deserve to be pulled. Lou was not to blaim for the loss in the first 2 games. The team would not play well in front of him. The team has also played a bit better in front of Cory for the most part. So this move is a good one. It gives us the best chance to win. But this has nothing to do with how Lou performed in the first 2 games. It has everything to do with the performance of the rest of the team.

If they fail to show up yet again. They deserve to loose. I love my team. but when they are determined to play at a level which has no hope of winning then they deserve what they get. Here is hoping that pissing away the first 2 games with B grade efforts has woken up the sleeping Canucks.

this is must win territory tonight. Game 4 is not much better. going home anything less then tied is bad news. going down 3-0. Forget it!!!
Shootouts are entertaining but they are not worth points!!!

Luongo is in a no win situation.

If the Canucks win tonight - everyone will say it's because Schneider played.
If the Canucks lose, everyone will say we would have lost with Luongo in the net as well.

I agree He is in a no win situation,
As Cory is in a Must win situation
The only way for Luongo to be in a better situation Unfortunately is,
If Cory displays the greatest goaltending performance in the History of the NHL Playoffs ( or sieves) and the Canucks still lose
Then the Supporters will be going... see

I like Corys compusure and set up,positioning, and has given Us a chance to win every game he has played in... BUT,
How many of You ,whether in Your job or Sports,When You Knew You were confident and were deserving of the Opportunity were given the chance, You were going to prove it and for whatever reason,You didnt do what You normally did, were thinking of it too much, trying too hard?Whatever the reason,You didnt put out a performance that You did 99% of the time.

I hope Cory isnt like that (nor the Canucks) and blow out the Kings tonight and get into 'their" heads

More suprising for me than Cory playing goal is Weise playing for Ebbett?
I thought Ebbett has more scoring Potential and thats what we need now

Washington wasn't playing very well at all. Out skated, out hit, out shot, out chanced out class. But their goalie kept them in. Stole a game.

Now is L.A out classing Vancouver at every aspect? I don't think so, but sure as hell their goalie is playing great. Something missing from our goaltender.

Starting Schneider was a wake up call for the team. Luongo has been consistent for the first two games. Of course, you'd like to believe otherwise.

Plain and simple, you're an idiot. You've never played the position and yet you consider yourself a goaltending expert. You make me laugh. I suppose I owe you some credit for bringing humour to the discussion.

Luongo has a 0.891 save % in playoffs, good for 16/17 out of all goaltenders. How has he been great?

Anyone who has watched the games knows that save % means nothing. Lets take for example the drop pass goal.. Really Lou got lucky making the first save but his save % of that goal was 50%, but it wasn't a bad goal on his part. Had he not mad the first save he would not have been at fault.

The idea of playing Schneider to shake the team up is what bothers me. He's not the reason we are down 2 games. You want to send a message? Let the 3rd line start the game and be the first PP unit for the first period. Put Edler on the 3rd pair for the first period.

Tim Thomas SUCKED against Tampa Bay last year and the Bruins let him play through it... kinda worked out ok for them huh? The Nucks need to pick a goalie and give that goalie a long leash that is it. Both of them are really good goalies but neither of them can play looking over thier shoulder.
