Gillis getting the executive of the year last season was the biggest joke I have ever seen.

Lets recap Gillis's major contributions so far.

Good

-Trading for Ehrhoff.

-Signing of Hamhuis.

-Trading for Higgins and Lapierre

-Re-Signing of Burrows at a discount.

-Signing of Tanev

Negative

-Re-Signing of Luongo to longterm contract after his first playoff meltdown against Chicago

-Trading Of Michael Grabner (and hence commitment to Mason Raymond) and a first round Pick(Howden) for Ballard and his bad contract

-Trading for David Booth and his bad contract

-Trading Cody Hodgson/Sulzer for Zack Kassian/Grags.

-Signing of Marco Sturm

-Not attempting to re-sign Willie Mitchell who you almost certainly would have re-signed here at a discount if the Canucks showed any interest in him.

-not one of his draft picks is playing in the NHL besides Cody Hodgson.

-signing of Mats Sundin

-trading a 2nd round pick for Steve Bernier

-trading a 3rd round pick for Andrew Alberts

Now Just the Facts

Lets see the part of this years Final Team Gillis inherited

Forwards.

D,Sedin, H.Sedin, R.Kesler,A.Burrows, M.Raymond,J.Hansen.

Dmen

Bieksa, Edler,Salo

Goalies

Luongo and Schneider

We have our top 6 regular season scorers on this list (Sedins,Kesler,Burrows,Edler and Bieksa) as well as our two very good goalies.

These players accounted for 148 of our 249 Goals this season and 7 of our 8 Playoff Goals.

Lets see the part of this years team Gillis actually created

Forwards

Booth,Pahlsson,Lapierre,Higgins,Malholtra,Weise,Kassian,Ebbett,Volpatti and Bitz

Dmen

Gragnani,Rome,Alberts,Ballard,Hamhuis and Tanev.

Goalies

None

These players combined for a total of 1 Goal in the playoffs and 76 of our 249 Goals in the Regular Season.

-Grabner has not been nearly as good this year.

-Booth, while he has been streaky, is still better than Sturm and Samuelsson.

-signing Sturm was a bad move, but we got Booth out of it (see above).

-3rd round pick for Alberts isn't necessarily bad

-you forgot to mention the trade for Pahlsson

-Mats Sundin was hugely overpaid, but did actually help our team. We probably wouldn't have done anything else with the money anyways.

He has also signed many key players to discounted contracts. I don't blame Gillis at all for this situation. He built a good team. It's players and coaching staff who didn't do their jobs.

Those are your "negatives" that I disagree with.

- Luongo has shown time and time again that he's a winner

- I think it's pretty obvious Hodgson asked for a trade, and Hodgson was NOT our franchise.

- It's actually quite embarrassing to think Mitchell was once our #1 d-man. Kinda like how Edler is our #1 d-man now.

- That's more of our scouts fault than Gillis'.

- Sundin is what turned Burrows, Kesler, and the Sedins into the regular season champs that they are

Why does the signing of Marco Sturm matter? he was gone before he hit the golf course.

And would you really re-sign Mitchell after having a severe concussion to at least 2 years ( since MG tried to sign him for 1 year) with the risk that one more hit to the head could be the end for him?

"-not one of his draft picks is playing in the NHL besides Cody Hodgson."

How does this measure the amount of success/failure Gillis is as a GM? was he around for 10 years?

This is one of the most biassed OP I have ever seen.

Amazing how some of you people have such short memories. This team is underachieving. It has been like that the latter part of the season. The scoring has gone down and our goalies have stepped up in most nights. We didn't change the core. It's the same one as last year. What did you expect after last year SCF? A major overhaul? Give me a break. The one thing that needs a change is the personnel behind the bench. AV has not adapted this team to physical teams such as Boston and LA. Even against Chicago, they struggled a couple years before.
